I only saw I rough cut of the first one and that put me off from seeing the final version. I might get a copy and see if I enjoy it and then I'll decide whether a sequel is a good thing or not. Based on what I've seen of the film, the answer is probably not.

Some parts I really liked (earlier scenes) and some that I just wanted to turn the movie off. Overall I was impressed by the quality of presentation, but did not find the content to be very funny or interesting.

yeah the film did suck. But Rowan McGowan, "Bean", whatever his name is was ok. Natalie Imburgia, whatever her name is, was ok as well.

Rowan Atkinson is always a class act and it's hard to not like him. You have to feel sorry for him being in a movie like this though. It did have some funny laugh out loud moments but most of it was plain boring or the sort of stuff that some people find funny but most don't.

4/10.

I for one thoroughly enjoyed Johnny English. Rowan Atkinson's portrayal of this bumbling superspy was akin to Peter Seller's Inspector Clouseau. Natalie Imbruglia was very easy on the eyes and Edward Shearmur's score was spot-on 1960's spy
music brillance. My children enjoyed it as well. I seem to remember them watching it three times during our two-day rental period.

I will never ever watch this film again in my life.

I didn't hate it. Well maybe I did. But not in the way I hate TWINE.

Infact I would watch TWINE before I watch this.

I saw it for the first time not too long ago (Netflix! :)) and I thought it was god-awful. But I was sort of in a bad mood that day, if I remember correctly. And I fell asleep.

What else can you expect from Purvis and Wade :)

Or from Rowan Atkinson lately for that matter. He hasn't been in anything good since Blackadder Goes Forth. :)

TBH, Smalfawcet is a better spy character than English. Pathetic but true.

Another P&W stinkfest.

Just to be fair, P&W stated in the Orange Word interview last month that what became "Johnny English" wasn't the movie they were looking to make. They had been seeking a more Graham Greene (i.e. dark, detective-like) film with their script, but due to 9/11, it was revised to be more comical. MI6 has more about this.

I haven't seen the film yet but if the adage that the funniest moments are in the trailer, I'm not too excited.

I did like the one brief Bond homage though, the tossing of the jacket (instead of a hat) onto a coatrack that isn't there. Not hilarious, but cute reference to the Bond of old. :)

In my opinion, the most entertaining spy spoof to date is Johnny English with Rowan Atkinson of Mr. Bean. It is a spy spoof, heavy of the spoof. If you try to compare Johnny English to Austim Powers, there is no comparison.

Johnny English is the man for all seasons. :)

I'm STILL racking my brain as to what 60's song that JE song reminds me of. :)

Welcome to CBn Commander's Club 006!!!.

I've got to go with 'Spy Hard' because Leslie Nielson's in it, and it has some rather good moments.

The PTS with Weird Al's head exploding is so funny, and the main themes better than the last few official attempts IMHO. :)

Cheers,

Ian

I've yet to see that film, but I heard it's good. Still love Austin Powers, though. Saw the second one on TV today for about the 1600th time, and I was laughing out loud. :)

Rowan Atkinson is a comic genius. I love Mr. Bean.

Personally, I thought JE was depressingly average and routine for a spoof. Certainly sub-Austin Powers and the jokes were hideously obvious and guessable.

JE was quite entertaining, but made me cringe way too often. Something Austin Powers doesn't. Having said that, the scene where he enters the hospital instead of the Villain's lair is simply hilarious.
