I moved the above into this thread. Three new Star Wars threads in one day...let's try and keep this board about Bond. Besides, the above questions are all, more or less, Sith related questions.

BTW, I think it's time to declare this a spolier thread so, have at. :)

Be nice if their was something hard news related to talk about in regards to James Bond/Casino Royale.

BTW, The trailor for Fantastic Four looks great. Maybe Ion Gruffolds will be Bond #6 if it's a huge hit...

Saw SITH yesterday. Very enjoyable. My only gripe is: too much fake-looking CGI. Why couldn't we have had a puppet Yoda for certain scenes, and a Chewbacca resembling the one in the original trilogy more closely? With more realistic effects and sets, I reckon this would have been one of the most visually stunning films ever made.

Still, there are some truly inspired moments and edge-of-seat stuff (the Order 66 bit, for instance) missing from the first two prequels. I wouldn't call SITH a great film, by any means (some parts work brilliantly, others don't), but it's never boring and entertains from start to finish. Bring on the DVD! :)

The CGI was the best executed of the 3 films. It didn't bother me at all this time around.

There was no need to put Chewbacca in "Sith" but that scene when Yoda counters the Order 66 was priceless. I didn't know beforehand that G-lu filmed in China(James Bond island). I wish he would have used that locale/Wookees for ROTJ instead of the dull NoCal and those cuddly little ewoks. :)

I thought both Natalie and Hayden did a better job this time around than in Clones...but still sub-par. Their dialogue was, of course, abysmal. Not their fault, so much. Padme's sudden political outburst about how "maybe the Republic we're fighting for is the very thing we fear" made me groan: how much less subtle could Lucas get about his political beliefs? It reminded me of the product placement in The Truman Show.

Yoda was, as always, a high point. Seeing him kick butt never seems to get old, and the people in the theater today went nuts when he used a Force field to knock over Palpatine's red-robed guards.

I agree that Anakin's "NOOOO!" makes sense, but it wasn't executed so well. I don't know...something about the whole setup felt fake. His transition from light to dark happened too quickly and too abruptly...would have made more sense for Palpatine to kill Padme and then tell Anakin that the Jedi did it. That would have solved the problem of Padme dying because she "lost her will to live", which may happen in real life, but nonetheless smacks of a bad graphic novel.

Ewan rocked. Of course. Plot hole: how the hell did he manage to age 50 years from the time Luke was born to the time he turned eighteen? Odd. I guess that desert air does something to a man. Still in all, Ewan was excellent as Young!Alec Guinness. Impressive as ever. He and Yoda were the only characters I really cared about.

Biggest gripe? No Han. Think about it: he's the only major character who got left out, unless you're counting Lando. Too contrived? Um, yeah. And Chewbacca wasn't? Or R-2, or Threepio...I could go on. He would have been roughly ten years old. Surely there would have been a place for a young street urchin with a heart of gold. </fangirl>

All in all, it was slightly better than I expected, but still disappointing. My God, Lucas. What happened to you?

Any staffers up for adding a poll to this thread? I'd like one in order to find out at a glance what CBners think of SITH. :)

Maybe three options would do:

"A masterpiece"

"Good, entertaining stuff, but nowhere near a great film"

"Horrible - once again that fool Lucas has dropped the ball".

Due to it being a 12A here, as a lovely half-term treat I have just accompanied my sons (peer pressure - their chums on them, the Mrs Jim wanting them out of her hair on me) and two of their pals to the cinema to see this.

Two of them fell asleep before I did.

If, has been suggested elsewhere, this is one of the films of the decade - perhaps the film - that says more about the decade than the film.

Accordingly, I feel more than usually grumpy. That is the film's achievement. Otherwise it was all very podgy and gruesomely boring.

Admittedly, one of the party did enjoy himself and I am left wondering whether divorce of one's child is possible. Time to draft a new Will, anyway.

But it would have been an improvement on II if they'd just set up a cardboard Obi-Wan cutout and filmed it for two and a half hours, so that's not saying much.

I think II is the worst, sadly bay far.

(Here, there used to be a lengthy 'blah' on why the others were better, I cut this out because nobody cares tbh.)

To sum up: All the films are better unless you're watching a butchered version of the origional trilogy, in that case id rather watch episode II (or cut my wrists).

Finally got to this yesterday. I rather liked it. It doesn't bear close scrutiny I'm sure, and if I see one day in a few years I'll probably wonder what all the fuss was about, but for now I enjoyed it. Particularly liked how they brought back the crummy 70s-style sets near the end, I guess that makes it lead into Star Wars better than it otherwise might have.

I used to think that, but then the reality hit me: episode 1 has substance wheras 2 has nothing but middle fluff. In some ways it's responsable for the rather rushed story nature of ep3 because essentially nothing happens in ep 2 that couldn't have been covered in 1 hour leaving the other hour open for more story; and thusly leaving ep3 screen-time open for more depth.

But who am I to question Lucas' great wisdom and insight. Heh.
