This is the best of all the STAR WARS movies...and that's something I always thought would belong to one of the original trio from 1977, 1980 and 1983.
Amazing...probably the best movie in the last decade and beyond.
Ties in nicely at the end...even Peter Cushing character from STAR WARS was there in the closing minutes. The only issue is:
in RETURN OF THE JEDI Leia talks about remembering her mother -- how is that possible? |

The visuals are amazing, but the dialogue was terrible, and the performance from Hayden Christenson was so dull, that I didn't feel any pity for his character. Natalie Portman's role is wasted, and the climax felt too rushed for me. Only McGregor and the guy who played Palpatine were the only performances I like.
And come on, at least show Chewbacca a bit more. He's my favorite character in the series, and he didn't get his due here.
There are moments of suspense, like the fight between Mace Windu and Darth Sedious. My heart was pacing because I felt the fear in Samuel Jackson's face.

Goodness. But I may well feel the same after seeing SITH, since I consider ATTACK OF THE CLONES the best film of the series along with A NEW HOPE. THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK I find a ludicrously overrated bore, and I don't have much time for RETURN OF THE JEDI or THE PHANTOM MENACE either.

I am speechless. I cannot express just how great this movie is. This is like the end of a 28-year journey I embarked on in a dark theater in Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1977.

I think I agree with you here, it really has basically everything in it. The performances really aren't that bad, the dialog is ok, the action sequences and effects are absolutely wonderful.
I also agree with Brix on the one scene, that was really bad, but that IS the only bad scene.
I really really really want to see this again soon.

Now GL should go back and remake EP2 so it didn't suck.

Bond movies can only hope to be half this good.
Is it better than NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN? Better than THE SPY WHO LOVED ME?

From my perspective, if it's half as good as DIE ANOTHER DAY I'll feel pleased.

Never had you down as one of CBn's hardcore STAR WARS fans, D. Are you a STAR WARS buff or (like me) a casual viewer? If the latter, then your reaction to SITH has me very interested indeed in this film. What did you think of the other prequels?

I think you will like it Loomis...it's the darkest of all the STAR WARS movies. The girl sitting next to me (who was in her 20s) was actually crying for the last 10 minutes or so.
Thats understandable DLibrasnow! I actually got a little choked up myself at how emotional the final scene with Anakin and Obi-Wan is.. Great film!! I'm gonna see it at least a couple of more times while its still in theaters.

No I am not a hardcore STAR WARS fan, just a casual viewer.

And Anakin's turning didn't realy make much sense to me. I just don't understand the thought process- "Kill everyone you say? Oh, okay then. Ooh, I'm bad". And as for the bizarre scene in which the evil Emperor pulls the Vader name out of the air.. where did he get that from?

Natalie Portman is still awfully wooden, and the love dialogue is atrocious (as is a good deal of the dialogue in the film, though its better than the dialogue in the previous two installments, and the delivery is much improved all around). The first 30 minutes drags and it fairly cheesy (General Grievous is a horrible character, though the duel he provides is worth seeing). Once that 30 minutes is over though, the drama kicks in, people start dying, and the film rockets to an outstanding finish. This really is what every Star Wars fan has been waiting for; an emotional ride that has more power (even if it's not as perfect) as the original trilogy.
Ian McDiarmind owns this film. In a delightfully over-the-top performance, he steals the show as the Emperor. Yoda also steals the show, fighting in a fashion that has come a long way since AOTC. No longer played for laughs, Yoda is a character that gives a lot of heart and resonance to the film. Ewan gives an admirable performance as Obi-Wan, and even Hayden takes a good turn here. The lightsaber duels between these four players literally makes the film what it is and elevates it to a level beyond what we've seen before. What I was amazed at is how much this film transforms the original trilogy in feel - you'll never look at Darth Vader the same way again.

When watching the movie, you feel as if your part of the action and not just watching it. 99.99999% of the time, the CGI is flawless. The space battles and all the lightsaber battles are fantastic.
No matter how many spoilers you've read, the last 45 minutes of the movie is gonna make your heart beat so fast that you'll feel as if your about to go into cardiac arrest. I've never experienced a movie like this in my life.

Oh I do hope I get proved wrong. But as it stands, I think he's horribly miscast.Keep an open mind harmsway. I think he's about to blow up into a major star in film. Besides Benedicio Del Toro he was the only good thing about the preposterously overrated(frickin Oscar!!!) 'Traffic', imho. But thanks for the input.

Hey, zencat, didn't you say you'd seen this? Where's your review?
I would be interested in reading zencats thoughts on REVENGE OF THE SITH. I stand by my assertion that this is the best movie of the decade and better than any of the Bond movies.
Like I said Bond movies can only hope to be half this good.

Looking forward to SITH not only because of DLibrasnow's comments but also because my favourite critic, Leonard Maltin, gives it a very positive write-up (he finds fault with the other prequels in his "Movie Guide") (http://leonardmaltin.com/picks.htm). Surprised by his slagging of THE BOURNE SUPREMACY, though (http://leonardmaltin...archive=2004-12).

I gather Thomas Haden Church will be in SPIDEY 3 - if he's anything like as superb as he is in SIDEWAYS (one of the best films I've seen in a very long while), I might just check the movie out. As for this Topher Grace - who?

Thomas hayden Church(what's with these actors and their three frickin names?)will play the Sandman, which will be very CGI heavy(
