View Post

Yes, Brian Cox would be a great villain. Old enough and has enough gravitas. He certainly wouldn't think much of this cocky young upstart named Bond. Much better than having some young villain like Toby Stephens was.

But Cox as Le Chiffre? I don't know. It could work, but I'm hoping for something a bit more European, to get back to the feel of the earlier Bond movies.

In fact, either Michel Lonsdale (Drax) or Louis Jordan (Kamal Khan) could've seemed like a Le Chiffre type character.

Hmm...I thought I was looking at a photo of Robert DeNiro there for a minute, which leads me to suggest, why not get HIM?

He would be pretty good. I've always been impressed with him as an actor and wouldn't mind seeing him as a Bond villain.

My vote is for Donald Sumpter - great actor and would make a cracking villain. Can't find a photo to post sorry. He is in the new film 'The constant gardener.'

Since i read the book a couple of years ago I have always thought that Philip Seymour Hoffman would be a perfect casting for the role of Casino Royale's villain, Le Chiffre. The first time I saw Hoffman was in "owning Mahoney" the 2003 film which in my opinion still remains his definitive performance and sees Hoffman playing the title character Mahoney depicting his struggle against a gambling addiction, and although seeing him once again in a Casino where the stakes are life or death, I think he can certainly pull off the deep and sinister aspects of Le Chiffre's character.
Being in a cinema next November watching Daniel Craig face off against Hoffman across a poker table seems perfect for this movie and holds great appeal to me, and maybe someone out there would agree!
While he would not make the most physically imposing villain, it should be remembered that actors such as Gert Fr

We haven't had a decent Bond villain or villain actor since A View To A Kill. And Toby Stephens was the worse of the most recent ones.

We need a good actor who'll bring some gravitas to the role of Le Chiffre. No-one too young - certainly not younger or the same age as Bond.

Marvellous. But he, too, would overshadow Craig.
Problem is not finding a good actor, but a good actor who wouldn't steal the light from Craig.
If I could think about anyone, I'd always put Kevin Spacey in first place for a villain (he just has the capability of conveying that totally crazy, evil look that only really evil people have!! lol :)). But Spacey, like Jack Nicholson, Harvey Keitel and those big actors, would overshadow Craig. As would Colin Farrel, who makes a fantastic villain in my opinion. But too big a name.
I find the above mentioned Daniel Auteuil idea not bad. At that point then, I would say Olivier Martinez for a French! (so at least, since I do not enjoy watching Daniel Craig, I would enjoy watching the villain! lol :) j/k)
Byrne also seems a good suggestion if they don't want someone French, and I still like the Sinise idea... And Gary Oldman maybe?
if they don't go for a French.. what about Kevin Bacon??

What i would like to point out is that ane of the villians will be most probability an asian actor (in place of SMERSH) and my vote is for actor Gulshan Grover. He will get the part of the chief of the terrorist organisation.

I used to think Ian MacShane would be good but then I bought the book. I am reading the novel now and I can only picture British actor David Suchet (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0837064/). He's best known as TV's Hercule Poirot but also played the villain in Executive Decision. His other credits include Live From Baghdad, A Perfect Murder, The In-Laws and RKO281. Or perhaps you remember him from Wing Commander and Iron Eagle? :) He also played Sean Penn's KGB handler in The Falcon and the Snowman.

Suchet has that slithery quality and quiet intensity that I imagine Le Chiffre having and he kind of looks like the way the character is drawn in the old comic strip. Here's a photo.

I've really grown fond of the idea of Liam Neeson playing a villain in Casino Royale or an upcoming Bond film. I think he could be very captivating.

Ian Mc Shane ( very impressive in " Sexy Beast " ) and Liam Neesson are , at my point, two very good and original choices for Le Chiffre.

Sorry if someone has already mentioned this - but how about Jean Reno? Has the ability and the star name the producers might be looking for. Though the past four villians have all been played by British actors - could be a trend?

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned him yet but there's always French actor Michael Lonsdale (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0003909/). Sure, he's much older now than he was in Moonraker but I don't expect Bond and Le Chiffre to have any hand-to-hand fights. The Bond filmmakers have brought the same actors back in different roles before (Joe Don Baker, Maud Adams, Charles Gray) so it's not unthinkable. Lonsdale even looks something like Le Chiffre, as he's been described, and is old enough to still be a Holocaust survivor as Le Chiffre is in the book.

By the way, Lonsdale stars opposite Craig in Spielberg's MUNICH.

Another suggestion: Lambert Wilson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0933727/), the French actor who has appeared in Catwoman and the Matrix sequels. He also auditioned for the role of Bond many years ago. I could see him in a tux facing off against Bond in a casino game.

Interesting idea Stax, I never considered him. Wonder if he'd ever want to to another one with such a long time passed by since Moonraker.
