I think Le Chiffre should be played by Steve Buscemi and his boss should be played by Daniel Day-Lewis or Jeremy Irons. Stewart looks better suited to play a Robert Brown-esque M (very stuffy and doesn't believe that Bond will always get the job done.) But I wouldn't mind seeing Visnjic take ANY role in CR, including that of 007 himself.

If you're looking at LeChiffre as kind of a creepy character in the mold of Peter Lorre, how about Crispin Glover? Great sinister look to him, although he can be a bit out there. Just a thought.

I like Jean Reno, but I don't see him as Le Chiffre.

I think Reno would be a really good Le Chiffre, he certainly has the age now.

Also David Suchet who played Poirot?

Suchet would be splendid, but I think Reno could pull it off too.

How about, Peter O'toole. I can see him as the quinessential villain. I assure you, this man would put on a performance that would bring down the house.

David Suchet is a very good idea! I loved him as Poirot, and I think he could pull off brilliantly the necessary coldness of the part!

Anthony Hopkins would be magnificent too, but would he accept to do it?

That second picture of Suchet looks exactly as I pictured Le Chiffre.

I feel that Christopher Walken should be brought back as LeChiffre, he and Peter Lorre(who in my mind described LeChiffre to the T from Fleming's Novel) share similar features The same Buggy kinda eyes, and the nervous body language are some examples. Although I don't feel they should give walken a role too much like Max Zorin, it would be cheasy, LeChiffre is much different from Zorin. I feel Christopher Walken would portray a fabulous LeChiffre.

Christopher Walken, although a fabulous actor, has 'had his six,' as Bond himself would say. Pity it was a s****y picture.

Christopher Walken cannot come back as another villain in the Bond franchise. He was already Max Zorin, and was memorable enough in that role for people to possibly become confused or something like that. It's hard enough having actors go from bit parts to starring roles over the course of a film or two, but to have an actor who has already played a major character in a Bond film come back to portray another major character would just not work.

Don't you think Steve Buscemi looks more like Peter Lorre (only a lot thinner and more stressed-looking?) I feel that Buscemi would be the perfect candidate to play Le Chiffre. Walken has indeed "had his six" and it's time for Buscemi to get his one by playing a Bond villain.

Buscemi would be okay if he could pull off an accent, which I've never heard him do. I wouldn't want him to sound like his character in The Big Lebowski.

Don't know if it's been mentioned in this thread, but let's all remember how Fleming described Le Chiffre:

... clean shaven, complexion very pale or white, fat, slug-like, with sadistic impulses, constantly using a benzedrine inhaler and with an insatiable appetite for women. He also had a rather feminine mouth ...

I say ... David Suchet!! Brilliant choice!!

You know, after Wade's reminder of Fleming's description, I recall my quote of Walken fitting IF's details of LeChiffre, and I absolutely agree with you guys about walken.

Bryonalston - I am beginning to agree, Buscemi may be a great candidate, he fits the looks in one way or another, and he hasn't always been known to do the comedy routine, although that may be what he is best know for (i think).

Does anyone remember the name of that foreign actor they had an article on mi6.co.uk? i know it's quite the plain description, but it was about 2 - 3 weeks ago, larger kinda guy, dark slicked back hair - said his forte is playing a villainious role. anyhow, he doesn' fit the description too well, but it may be interesting to see him cast.

Good option! :)

I never tought of him for the role, but as a good actor he is, the performance would be fantastic for sure.

When Casino Royale was still set in South Africa I had the idea that Arnold Vosloo should play Le Chiffre because Vosloo is a big actor in his home country. When reports said that Goran Visnjic was up for the role of Bond, I nearly craped myself becuase I have always said the Visnjic and Vosloo are the best choices for villains. I still think that Vosloo should play Le Chiffre. He's a great actor, becoming a bigger star in the US, and because... well, just look at the guy:

David Suchet is the one to get, Iv thought of him many times as a good bond villian so its pretty funny that you too brought him up.

Peter Lorre and Orson Welles were great choices for Le Chiffre the first two times. It's hard for me to think of someone as fitting as them these days...

Alfred Molina, Ian McShane and Jean Reno would all do good jobs with it, though. David Suchet looks right.

My two choices for Bond now - Craig and Visnjic - have also been suggested for Le Chiffre. If one is Bond, it might be interesting to cast the other as Le Chiffre. But, as bryonalston said earlier in the thread, that might be too 006-ish to be in Martin Campbell's second movie.
