Hello everyone. I'm new to CBn, so in the spirit of this thread, allow me to introduce myself. I'm "Banco". [As you know, "Banco" is what's said by a chemin de fer [or baccarat] player when he is staking a wager equal to the whole of the "bank" put forward by his adversary.] I'm 30-ish, male, and I work as a lawyer in NYC and NJ. I'm a major fan of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. My favorite Bond novel is Casino Royale, followed closely by From Russia With Love. From the films, I think Daniel Craig is the best Bond, and Casino Royale the most complete and authentic Bond film experience. But hey, that's just my opinion. Like James Bond, I enjoy fine living, fast cars, beautiful women (I'm married to the finest one of all), adventurous travel, Russian vodka and gambling. I look forward to interacting with you all. I see that this site has many features, like communiques, allies, etc., although I haven't figured out how to participate in them yet. All the best! BANCO.

Hi all, another newbie here!

My name is Kurt and I live in Lichfield (Near Birmingham), England. I've not long turned 20 years old and am currently at college. My main interests include Aston Villa - they are my religion - movies, rock music, and of course, James Bond. I've only recently joined the forum, but have quickly noticed that there's tonnes of stuff on here, and that's just from the main page! Anyways, I hope that the forum is packed full of cool people and that I enjoy it on here!

All the best, Kurt!

I know Lichfield very well Kurt, and I hope that you enjoy yourself here at CBn. Although as a West Brom fan this may be the last time I ever correspond with you. Only joking.

Hi everyone. Today is my first day posting. And I must say I like the ambiance of this place. The black background is very soothing. And so far I have met nothing but really nice people. I am from Las Vegas, which is spanish for The Oasis-- but was born in LA. I like yoga and The Beatles. And arobics, and 80's music.

Hello to all, I'm Frank, in western Canada.

My first exposure to the Bond films was when my older brother came home after seeing his first one in the theatre. I asked "was it any good?". He replied a very rare and definite "YEAH!"

That movie was (don't tell anyone) Dr. No, the very first of the series. While I waited for the day I would be old enough to get into the theatre for a Bond movie, I read several of Flemings' novels. James Bond in those books had a cruel streak, and an eye for fast cars and women and could be lusty. I'd say Sean Connery's version of Bond matched that with the most accuracy. Most of the subsequent Bonds have been lacking in the cruelty and lust departments, which is understandable considering modern ideas, it makes Bond more politically correct, but he is a less flawed and less interesting character.

Probably the first Bond I was able to get into the theatre to see was You Only Live Twice. I did not get to see the first 3 or 4 Bond movies for a few more years because back then they would wait several years before putting a movie on TV, and there were no VCRs or DVDs.

I've seen all the Bond movies now, most in the theatres although more recently I've just waited for the DVD, since I became disinterested as the series became generic and overloaded with far-fetched CGI action sequences. I did see Casino Royale in the theatre however and I like that they have toned down the CGI action and made it more realistic. It appears Quantum of Solace will continue in that direction, with the action more believable and therefore more exciting.

BTW I have friends who work as crew in the movie industry in Vancouver. One of them was on the set of a movie with Pierce Brosnan a couple of years ago. Mr. Brosnan smokes on set and interestingly rolled his own cigarettes (he said the activity calmed his nerves a bit before doing a scene), and was very generous in sharing his rolling tobacco with my friend and other crew, so there's some trivia for you!

Nice post - welcome Franwalker. I agree on the steady decline that happened until Casino Royale came out. Hopefully Quantum of Solace will be even better!
