Next up is For Special Services and Icebreaker, as I have the omnibus edition. I only hope they can live up to the high standard set by Gardner's first.

Lazneby, I think you'll only be more pleased. I read most of the Gardner's in order my first time. While I thought Licence Renewed was a great book, I found the next two to be fantastic. Enjoy. :)

I enjoyed the first three Gardner books very much, but they started to be less and less enjoyable with everything after ICEBREAKER. Don't even get me started on the whole Flicka Von Whatsherface character..... --Brian

Just got done reading Live and Let Die. EON should remake Live and Let Die, but the remake should be more faithful to the book.

I also read Casino Royale.

I finished reading For Your Eyes Only. At first I thought it was a complete novel but when I finished reading the first "chapter" and started the second one, I realized that they had no resemblance to each other :) so I figured out they were short stories.

I especially liked "For Your Eyes Only" in which M starts to question his job and if he is the right person for the job. He says it after he learns that his friends have been murdered and now Bond's mission is somewhat personal to M. It sort of reminded me of The World is not Enough and M's friendship with Robert King.

I also liked "The Hildebrand Rarity" and the title of "Quantum of Solace" is maginificient. They should start using those kinds of titles for the movies.

Did Fleming write a novel for "A View to a Kill" or did the producers just take the name out of the first short story of the book? I'm not sure.

Fleming wrote a short story for “From A View To A Kill”. They just used the title.

You may find this interesting. http://www.commander...es/2360-1.shtml

In the third chapter of Dr. No. It's alright, if not a little too fast-paced, and not developed enough in the beginning.

I guess coming directly off From Russia, With Love -- a very descriptive and tigtly plotted book, I'm a little shell-shocked by it. But Fleming is a true artist when it comes to creating scenes in your mind and unique characters.

I just finished up Role of Honor a couple days ago and am plotting my next move. Considerations: rereading OHMSS; LTK adaptation; or continuing on to reread Nobody Lives Forever, which is my personal favorite of Gardner's books.

A few quick comments on the first four Gardners: I find them kind of fun to read, but at the same time a challenge to get through at times. The crisp pacing of Fleming is lost and, especially in Icebreaker and Role of Honor, Bond is blindly thrown into situations and expected to deal with them. M and the staff come off as callous rather than close to Bond. And some of the characters are just not that intersting. They seem as disposable as some of those in the film series.

Truthfully, the first five Gardners are in my opinion his best 'run'. After that it's a rollercoaster ride of valleys and peaks.

Finishing Role Of Honour, reading From Russia With Love.

Also, I broke down and decided to keep reading the Gardners in order and am rereading Nobody Lives Forever. Only two chapters in I am remembering why this was my favorite Gardner book.

Qwerty, I just finished Role of Honor, too. Let me know what you thought of it if you get the chance.
