I finished Licence Renewed two days ago (I found it quite excellent), so I've begun Mission Particulière, the For Special Services's French edition.

I've read quite a few within the last week or so. Goldfinger, By Royal Command, High Time to Kill, Doubleshot, and Never Dream of Dying. I'm at a loss of where to go next. I had a great time rereading Goldfinger... Maybe I should do some more of rereading the Fleming Books.

I'm not currently reading any Jame Bond novels, but have before. The ones I have read before are The Fact Of Death, Nobody Lives Forever, Role Of Honor, For Special Service and Zero Minus Ten. The recent books that I have read are Memorial Day, The Afghan, Act Of Treason and Masters of Chaos: The Secret History of the Special Forces. Right now I'm reading Protect And Defend, and at what still consider the begining of the novel.

I'm finishing a big three-month job today and plan to spend next week sat in the big local park by the river under a tree, starting off reading Casino Royale.

Assuming it doesn't rain, of course! B)

Now reading For Special Services. I read it once years ago but I've forgotten most it.

I'm thoroughly enjoying it especially now that Cedar Leiter has entered the story. B)

Re-reading Devil May Care, only have about 40 pages to go. It's not as bad as I remember it.

Does Harry Fawkes "Midas Gold" count? I'll count it as Harry catches the literary Bond quite well - and it is set in the present as they should be.

Not that far in as I'm being lazy with my rereading, but same. Picked it up again just because I was impossibly bored. I'm actually loving it, for the most part.

Reading Dr. No again. The more I read it, the more I enjoy it. Love the suspense, which is set up really, really well and mixed in among such well rounded atmosphere. I can't help but fall prey to Fleming's infectious love for Jamaica and the Caribbean. All of his Caribbean-based tales are among my favorites, and this particular one I will never tire of re-reading. Helps also that it continues the dynamic between Bond & Quarrel from LALD, which is another of my favorites. Looking forward to the obstacle course, one of the best third acts in any of the novels.

Much to my shame, Dr No is the only Fleming I have read (so far!). Really enjoyed it which surprised me as the film isn't a particular favourite. Does anyone have any recommendations for which book I should get stuck into next?

I would recommend Live and Let Die, mostly because it's my favorite of the lot. But it's also fairly quickly paced, but not too fast, (and I do think some of the other Flemings drag, FRWL for example) and Fleming makes, I think, best use of suspense out of any of his books. Also inclined to lean towards my second favorite, The Man With the Golden Gun, but it seems most folks hate that, so you might not want to read that next...

I'm 100 pages deep into SeaFire. Enjoyable so far as the beginning took place on a cruise ship and I just got off one.

Just finished Licence Renewed. Nothing too special plot-wise, but it has once again confirmed my belief that Gardner's prose is excellent. Definitely a lot better than Benson's and maybe better than a lot of Fleming himself. I finished DAF just about a week ago, and I have to say, it was too slow at times. But then again, Fleming didn't try to simulate Bond films like the next ones did.

Next: Colonel Sun.

00Twelve you have said it better than i ever could have! Like you, i absolutely love LALD and DN and rank them 1st and 3rd favourites (with FRWL in between). Fleming sure knew what he was doing when he built his holiday home in Jamaica. One can only dream of owning a home overlooking the green tropical sea, walking down to your own secluded private beach and snorkelling amongst the abundant sealife and coral reef before retiring for lunch and a few long cool drinks. Paradise - and these two novels really transport me there.

In the past couple of weeks I have read Thunderball and On Her Majesty's Secret Services. While it had only been a few years since I last read Thunderball, it had been ages since I read i]On Her Majesty's Secret Services[/i]. One past several months I have reread many of the Bond novels and I would say that it is my favorite. It has often been noted that the film version follows the book closely. What might also be added is that the book might be the one that would take the least effort to turn into a screenplay.
