Sounds like you haven't, but have you read either of them (or parts) before?

Nope. I've only read Fleming (save for Octopussy&TLD), Higson, and I actually read Benson's Tomorrow Never Dies just prior to the film coming out in theaters.

I'm in the process of reading them all in order (excluding Pearson).

Well, as I'm now part of the Blades Book club, I am reading For Your Eyes Only and I have recently finished From Russia With Love. I have now made FRWL my favourite James Bond novel.

I am working on CR and The Authorized Biography of 007, and I have two Benson novels to go at after those two.

I've read most of Fleming's works except for some reason Casino Royale. I'm going to try and read it soon. The books are much more accessible now than when I was a kid.

Currently I'm reading "From Russia With Love" and so far it seems to be the most interesting book in the series (from the books I've read ;Casino Royale,Live and Let Die *skipped Moonraker, because I was missinformed about their order and alas, I couldn't even find that one from my local library* and Diamonds Are Forever)

Just finished Die Another Day. I liked the extra info on Bond's escape from the hospital ship, his journey from Korea to Hong Kong, and the backstories of the villains, but I kind of sensed that Benson wasn't enamored of the screenplay.

I would recommend Tomorrow Never Dies as a very good book, and The World is Not Enough as a good one.

Next? I want to read all of Benson's Bond books and then I have Licence Renewed, Goldeneye, Pearson's Bond biography...

Man. I have a ton of books to read!

Out of interest, how many books have you guys read this year?

No, but Ernie's "I was a CR Extra" posts were some of the best Bond reads in a while.

That's my favorite aspect of Benson's movie novelizations, he gives a backstory to each of the villains, we get a whole chapter about the past life of Elliot Carver blackmailing his father, Renard's failed love life, and how Gustav Graves set up his diamond operation. The TND novel also indicates how the rewrites changed things, I much prefer Benson's stealth ship climax with Bond and Stamper fighting on top of the boat to how it turned out in the film.

Agree about TND. The novel made me take another look at the film. The film is good (and has improved for me over the years) but it could have been better as the novel shows.

Are you currently reading a 007 novel? If so, which one? I'm currently reading License Renewed by John Gardner

I am reading CASINO ROYALE now and hope to read all the rest of the Fleming novels (and perhaps COLONEL SUN) by November 17th.

I am currently reading "You only live twice" for the second time. I have read it 15 years ago and it's always so cool (i expect to improve my level in English, so the next time i won't read just a traduction of Fleming, but the original).

Your English seems pretty good to me, Bwanito - your first language isn't French by any chance, is it?

Yes you're right, i am one of this frenchies. Some times in France, it's hard to be a true fan of Bond (especially when you are interested in literary novels, fresh news or events).

Just started reading (my autographed copy of) ZERO MINUS TEN. Pretty good. I like Benson's style and his references to other Bond books or films. Interesting plot.

Interesting question - Why is it character names in 007 novels seem stupid but we instantly accept them in the films? Jinx, Zao and Gustav Graves are all as unlikely as anything from the Gardner or Benson books.

Or is it just moi?

(Did you know I spoke Danish?)

Just started reading Dr.No about 3 hours ago.
I've been only reading James Bond books for months now. Before that I mainly read star wars books, and managed to take a small break from sw-books, and read the hitchhiker-series.

All in all, I think I've read twice the amount of books I read last year(s). Or it feels like so.

I strongly encourage you to review Doctor No once you're done reading it (or along the way too!) and all the other Bond books in the .

Read Casino Royale not too long ago and I'll confess...only because of the upcoming movie. It's the first Bond book I've read...and sorry, but most likely the last....the story was good, but I'm afraid I found Fleming's style a bit...tedious. I'll stick to the movies! :)
