What do you think, who made Bond 24?

Again Thomas Newman (if Mendes returns, i think its clear), a Comeback from David Arnold, or a new Composer? Maybe Hans Zimmer? (He's also a huge Bond-Fan)

I can't believe i'm saying this but...Thomas Newman! I was sceptical of his ability when hearing the soundtrack snippets, but after having seen Skyfall twice, i realise i want him back. His score was not intrusive, and when it came to the action stakes, i think he delivered in droves. The Shanghai fight with Patrice was my favourite bit of the score. Gripping, tense.

My second choice would be Alexandre Desplat.

I want Arnold back if at all possible. Newman did a respectable job - he's easily the third best composer in Bond history. But Arnold's music resonates with me - he does a great job of capturing the mood of any given scene. If he's unavailable or if the powers that be prefer Newman, I wouldn't complain.

Newman did OK for me. It's been a long time since I felt tempted to buy a Bond soundtrack.

Sakamoto - is he still in the score business? Haven't heard something from him for some years if memory serves.

In the 1960s (FRWL-DAF), John Barry did every film. By the 1970s, that reverted to every other film, with a "one-off" composer filling in. So George Martin did LLD, Barry returned for TMWTGG, then Hamlish in TSWLM, Barry for Moonraker, Conti in FYEO, and then Barry ended his run with three in a row - Octopussy, AVTAK, and TLD.

Perhaps a similar pattern will emerge with David Arnold? After doing five in a row (TND, TWINE, DAD, CR, QOS), Newman steps in for SkyFall. Maybe Arnold is in his "Barry 1970s" phase now, of doing every other one?

I personally like that. The 1970s Bond movies benefited from some very distinct scores (I love LLD, TSWLM, and FYEO), but Barry came in every other time to keep the direction on track.

If Mendes is back, it'll probably be Newman which I have no problem with. Newman's score impressed me enough that I'd be happy to see where he takes it next.

If not, I hope David Arnold is back. By the time the scoring of Bond 24 is going on Arnold will have been away from Bond films for six years. That could be a good thing. New ideas and he'd probably feel refreshed. Even John Barry benefited from breaks here and there.

I'd like to see David Arnold back. I thought his score for QoS was pretty strong, and who could forget Vesper's theme?

Didn't members here on another thread already said that at the end of Skyfall during the end credits, it say David Arnold will be returning for Bond 24.

That was likely because of Marc Forster's influence.

and who could forget Vesper's theme?

Unfortunately I can't.

How about Dave Porter, the genius behind the music of AMC's "Breaking Bad"?

David Arnold all the way. No-one scores action as well as he, and he channels John Barry beautifully, which I think suits Craig's films better than Newman's more electronic vibe. Newman did a wonderful job generating mood in Skyfall and if Mendes returns so will Newman, but I missed Arnold's sweepingly elegant melodies.

But maybe Newman'll produce something even better if given another go at Bond.

Patrick doyle, or why not john williams, a symphonic score could be great. michael giacchino could be good too.

Michael Giacchino is an outstanding choice. Listen to his score for Pixar's "The Incredibles." It is nothing if not an homage to 1960's Bond scores.

(Actually, even though "The Incredibles" is a super-hero movie, it is very much a tribute to Bond films generally.)

Giacchino would be good. I'd just as soon them bring back Arnold. Newman's score was largely a snoozefest.

David Arnold. While I enjoyed some of Newman's scores (especially "Komodo Dragon" and "Breadcrumbs"), many of his other scores, even though they were excellent, I felt like it could have been interchanged with scores from a Bourne or Mission Impossible film ("Brand Bazaar, Istanbul", "Shanghai Drive" in particular- again, both are great, it just sounded too generic spy for me). You don't need to incorporate the James Bond theme in every score, but you need that Bond "feel" which I think Arnold can do best, especially with his "mini-themes" for each character like Vesper or Paris Carver. It would have been nice to have heard a "Silva's theme", some creepy sounding score that plays every time he's up to something.

It's not used religiously for every time he appears, but this "theme" is heard three times in the film.

Note how the guitar hints at Silva's Azorean background.

Giachinno would be outstanding. All his work has outstanding potential for Bond, but The Incredibles basically IS john barry's bond scores; his mission impossible scores are brilliant too.

Newman could do very well on a second run but I think Arnold also could come back strong if the James Bond theme was allowed back into the mix as it was when he scored TND, TWINE and DAD

I think that Newman did a great job with the score!! However, one thing I really did miss, was the way the late great John Barry and also David Arnold did so well: to have echos of the title song blended into the score. With Skyfall having one of the best title songs of the series, I'm wondering if it was composed AFTER Thomas Newman scored the film, hence it not being included throughout the film. Or did I just miss it entirely? (I saw it twice already :-D )
