The poster will be revealed to coincide with the James Bond 50th anniversary movie screenings at the Cannes Film Festival, which takes place between 16th and 27th May 2012

Regardless of what MI6 might have us believe, they are not an official source of news on Bond.

But Cannes is a very, very safe bet all the same.

So the simple answer is, this has not been "officially announced today" – MI6 has heard a rumour or are making an educated guess.

As I understand it, the first of the Bond films to be screened on the beach at Cannes (appropriately enough) will be Dr No on Thursday night (17^th).
I suspect the Skyfall poster will be unveiled then and be on 007.com almost simultaneously...well, that's one possibility.

The other possibility, is that it will be on billboards all over town from tomorrow and there will be artwork covering the outside of the Carlton, like the old days.

Edit: Scrub that last one, the outside of the Carlton has already be unveiled and it’s not Skyfall.

Yeah I think it goes through the 27. I'm hoping we see it in the next few days, but I wouldn't be surprised if nothing was shown until the beginning/middle of next week, right before the teaser drops.

I'd think teaser poster this week, teaser trailer next week would be the most logical. But they're holding official Skyfall collateral tighter than MGM's holding its cash reserves, so who knows.

I wonder what the strategy is in holding off on this poster for so long. I bet they set a date for it's release months ago and won't let it fly before that date. Same goes for the trailer. Still, since they're showing it off now to certain audiences we can be confident that they are at least pleased with what they have put together. I really hope the poster gets dropped later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Oh I'm sure we'll see it at the festival. When are the Bond films being shown? If they don't show it there, it'll likely just be released in HD online by 007.com.
