Basic summary:
Bond is brainwashed by supervillian Lord Voldemort to assassinate the one and only Harry Potter. Bond must infiltrate Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in order to get close to his target. There he becomes involved with a young witch by the name of Hermoine Granger. . . . <yatta>

Good, no? :)

Hermione Granger in this one brings back memories of John Gardner's Q'ute. :)

BloodFever.

The title will probably grow on me, but I love the cover art. I was hoping they'd keep these in a uniform style for the five novels and it looks like they are.

I've actually just started reading SilverFin and it's quite enjoyable.

I love SilverFin, I thought Higson did a great job with the novel and I cannot wait to jump right into BloodFever.

I too like the cover art and I am glad they are going with some uniform style. Hopefully they will keep this up with each successive book.

Wonder if the printing specs (HC and PB for the US, Trade PB for the UK) will stay the same.

If Blood Fever is one word then why is "Blood" red and "Fever" black? If the title was like SilverFin wouldn't the title be all red?

View Post

It's listed as "BloodFever" in the press release, regardless. The logo is just style to perhaps make "Fever" more standoutish. Should be noted that "Blood Fever" is an episode on Star Trek Voyager. :)

View Post

That seems to be the case, but I'm sure it will be clarified soon enough (let's not forget it was a press release that turned Tomorrow Never Lies into Tomorrow Never Dies). I remember when GoldenEye was first announced some wrote it Golden Eye (including The Hollywood Reporter).

I just noticed that the cover background is black skin.

More thoughts:

I have a feeling that BloodFever - and each Young Bond book from here on in - will be darker and, hopefully, more violent. The cover art and title in particular seem to reflect that.

I, too, like the "creepy critter" approach, as John put it, to the cover art. Although for some reason, I was expecting this second novel to be green.

Fingers crossed they'll lose the "The deadly new Young Bond bestseller" bit, but I do like the Bond-lite tagline "Death is contagious". All in all, I'm impressed!

Any way you say it does the title refer to a reaction from the injection James got in the first book?

I doubt it Brett...Higson said the effects of that injection were only temporary. I remember a lot of fans (myself included) wondered if the injection accounted for his abilities later in life, but Higson laid those thoughts to rest when I met him in Arlington.

And in our CBn Interview. Read the blacked-out spoiler section.

I read SilverFin months before it came out and I really expected Bond fans to freak. How I read it I very much thought Higson was saying the SilverFin injection gave Bond his future "powers."

Another thought on the cover. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't feature the new YB logo that we see on the German cover of SilverFin. But maybe it will. How many time did the SilverFin cover change on us. And note the use of the new logo is on the BloodFever pop-up (down in the lower left corner).

Indeed, I had wondered what that was when I first saw the cover.

Are they basing the "bestseller" claim in the cover on pre-sales?

Maybe they are referencing the "bestselling" Young Bond series (i.e., SilverFin)? I remember the cover blurbs for the Gardner books rode the bestselling status of the first 3 books all the way to the end, even transplanting some reviews from those early books to the later books.

Probably based on SilverFin being a bestseller in the UK for 11 weeks.

---
All the reports I've seen state Jan 5, 06 as the date of release. Is that just for the UK or are they attempting to do a NA release on the same date? Who's publishing in the U.S. this time too? Didn't Miramax pull out of the deal or something?

Until we hear otherwise, I would assume Jan 5 is UK only. It was reported that Miramax Books bought the publishing rights to the first 2 Young Bond novels so it's likely they will be handling BloodFever. I didn't hear anything about them pulling out, but after their lackluster promotion for SilverFin, I wouldn't mind seeing IFP dump them.

Same here. I'm really looking forward to this book. This is a fun series.

I know Book 2 was pushed back when it turned out CR wasn't coming out in fall '05 as planned...I wonder if we might get Book 3 in fall '06?

I was under the impression that BloodFever was delayed from October 05 to January 06 because Casino Royale was delayed. If that is the case I bet they'll release Book 3 in October or November 06 to coincide with the release of the film.

I had not heard that....I certainly hope that we get Book 3 by Fall of next year. That would be sweet having two YJB books in one year.

I would sure be interested in finding out if it's true. Any ideas where you may have read this, K1?

I agree with Evan on the subject of the logo.

I wonder if Charlie Higson will narrate the audio CD as he did for SilverFin.

Probably came from the possible Miramax breakup with Disney. CBn covered it here.. http://www.commander...es/2536-1.shtml

Note the link to the article at the NY Post is now archived and found here (although this only gives an overview of the article and you have to pay for the rest)
http://pqasb.pqarchi...7 FUTURE UNSURE

I thought I had read something else on the matter more recently. I don't know. I'll look into it and see if I can find more.

Hey gang,

We just uploaded a nice high res version of the cover into the story. You can really see the "skin effect" in this one.

With the tagline, "Death is contagious", it may be very similar to the "caper" in Benson's The Man With The Red Tattoo. I wonder if Higgy is aware of that book's plot?
