Okay,I'm coming into this a bit late, but I think it's a great topic! I love the pictures of the time pieces that are on display here! I'm hoping that in the next film he does get a different watch. There's a sameness to the Brosnan films that feel stale to me: Omega every time, new car every single time, etc. It's more fresh when each movie has it's own specific gadget. I think the Seiko watches in the Moore films were pretty up to date at their time, and liked the one he wore in OP. However, I am a diver's watch kind of guy, and would like to see Pierce, or whoever plays Bond possibly go back to the style Sean Connery wore in GF and TB (the Rolex with the striped strap band). I also loved the Rolex Roger had in LALD. In fact, it's one of my favourite gadgets in the series. Brilliant when the idea of using it backfires on him at the crocodile farm. Does anyone know what style or brand Sean Connery work in NSNA? Too bad the laser idea was used later in GE and DAD. I always like the scene when Sean uses it to escape, and thought the black metal was an interesting choice.

I'm coming into this a bit late too, and I haven't read the entire thread, but the thread commented on the tag watch worn by Jason Bourne, and seeing that film actually got me interested in getting a tag (and how I found this thread), that I am purchasing this week. I'm going to post a few images ... apologies to the modem users.

Below is the watch worn by Jason Bourne:

Here is the watch I'm getting:

And here is about the nicest watch I've ever seen:

I've looked at omegas and they just seem plain to me, as do the rolex's. Any comments are appreciated.

I agree with what someone said before though ... a tag may not be the best watch for a bond character because of the bulkiness, but it is about the best looking sport watch I have seen (and hence worked well on the Jason Bourne character).

Hey rj, Jason Bourne actually wore the Tag Link quartz Chronograph, but it was the model before the one you have posted a picture of. Here's a link to the automatic version of Jason Bourne's watch:

But, rj, get yourself the blue dialled model. It kicks! And Tags are pretty sturdy and trouble-free.

Here's a link to a pic of the new Omega Planet Ocean diver watch.

I also like the Seiko MarineMaster. Believe it or not, but it costs more than an Omega SMP.

I would still prefer Bond to wear a Rolex Submariner NO DATE. Model 14060M

Is this thread still running? Hey f1, I think the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is one of the nicest watches I've seen in a long time. It would be great to see Bond wearing one in "Casino Royale". As for the Rolex Sub 14060M, it's not the first choice when I think of Rolex dive watches. I know the date bubble on the Submariner 16610 is a major sticking point for a lot of watch collectors. Which is why I think that if they decide to go back to Bond wearing a Rolex, they should give him a SeaDweller.
Just my 2c.
By the way, welcome aboard, f1.

For myself it came to three choices. Seiko Marine Master was my first choice. I thought it looked the best but it was by far the largest and with my skinny 6.25" wrist, it wouldn't look good. Then it was between the SeaDweller and Sub No Date and I went with the Sub No Date. The SD was a bit too bulky for me. I actually prefer watches with no date as I dislike changing the dates whenever there is a shorter month. I don't mind a watch with a date if it's a perpetual calendar that I don't have to ever change. I love the Blancpain Perpetual Calendar models but they are way out of my budget.

I'm not a big Omega fan as I really dislike Schumacher who is the ambassador for the speedmaster line and I never liked the blue faced SMP and I didn't like the current black face SMP models or they bracelets, but the black faced Planet Ocean is something I can see selling the 14060M for. It really looks good with the oyster style bracelet.

I'm kinda tired of the Rolex snobbery too. At work, more people have Rolex's than any other brand and I've been thinking about something different for awhile. I would love to get a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 50th Anniversay Edition but it's way too expensive. I'd also like the upcoming JLC Aston Martin model but I'd need an Aston Martin to match it and I don't see that in my garage in the future. =\ Maybe if someone will buy a 10 million dollar home from me then I'll get the AMV8 and the JLC AM watch. =)

Yeah f1, the snobby stigma that's attached to Rolex is probably the biggest hurdle for me. Which is why ,if I ever buy a Rolex, I'd probably go for a Submariner from between 1975 to 1983. These models were pre-sapphire crystal and they didn't have those silly white gold rings around the markers on the dial. Very old school.
As for Omega, they represent one of the best value for money brands you can get. But I can understand that their designs aren't everybody's cup of tea.

I wouldn't mind Bond wearing a Rolex SD and I guess at this point it doesn't matter what we think he should wear because it will most likely be determined by which company will throw the most money out there for advertising. Rolex has a different standard for selecting ambassadors so I highly doubt Bond will be wearing one. I see TAG and Omega putting out the big money for Bond's next time piece. Damn, I could talk about watches and cars forever!

I think you're on to something here Draco. Non-date subs are currently frowned upon because they're not officially certified chronometers but surely Bond wouldn't be concerned about that bit of snobbery and more concerned that the damned thing worked?

But talking endlessly about the various virtues and flaws of Owen, Jackman, Law, et al. or the identities of the "insiders" does? Talking about watches is just as much fun!

Given the absolutely massive amount of promotion Omega tied into Bronsan, will they let go of the franchise without a fight? And now (at least in the eyes of the younger generation of Bond movie fans) that Omega is 007's watch, we have kind of a fun problem: go with a completely new brand, stay with the Omega Seamaster, or go all out classic with the Rolex Submariner.

I'm just wondering, in DAD did Bond wear the 007 edition Seamaster? Because if not, they should do that as a little gimmick. With the 007 gun logo engraved on the front and everything. Nobody will notice, but it'll make DVD extra bonus trivia.

If not, I'd go with a Rolex. Something expensive and reliable.

I don't think Rolex pays for product placement. I could be wrong because Nick Cage tells the girl to hold his submariner as collateral in National Treasure. Omega and TAG are two companies that are really agressive with marketing. I would prefer a no date sub but I would take a seiko marine master over an omega anyday.

Draco, I gotta go with you on this one. I have already stated that Bond should wear a SeaDweller as opposed to the Submariner. However, if they are going back to a grittier and more realistic Bond film with 'Casino Royale', then a non-date Sub on the Bond Nato strap would fit the bill. Although, I would still prefer him in the new Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean. This watch is based on the Seamaster 300 from 1964.
Great photo of the Sub, by the way, Draco.

I love how the originator of this thread started by second-guessing his chosen topic...and now there's well over one hundred fairly informative posts.

For those who'd vote for the no-date Submariner due to its original 007 ties, how about going one better: the "James Bond" Submariner? This is what Rolex collectors (yeah, expensive hobby to say the least!) have dubbed the early versions without the crown guards. It'd be kind of a nice touch...even though you'd need a good close-up (a-la "Goldfinger") to tell.

As a huge fan of the Rolex Seadweller ( my first choice for Bond) I would also like to put forward the Rolex Turnograph with an Oyster bracelet in stainless steel.Still immensely practical and sporty but suitable for all dress occasions. Should please those of you that dont like the size of the sports models as it 36mm compared to the 40 mm sports models.

Attached File  Omega_AquaTerra_Blk_Dial_.jpg   94.08KB   103 downloadsHey f1, how's this for a studio pic? Now this watch looks just as good in real life. Sorta resembles Cary Grant if he ever gets reincarnated. And for those of you out there who think it looks a little Rolexy, just remember that this watch owes its design to some of Omega's watches from the 1950s, the same era that the Rolex DateJust and original Turn-O-Graph came from. Personally, I don't mind the TOG, but I find the repetitive ROLEXROLEXROLEX around the outer edge of the dial annoying. I realize it is a ploy to stay one step ahead of fakes, but it's a little bit of overkill.

I'm not much of an Omega lover, although I do think that the Planet Ocean is really nice. That aqua terra looks really similar to a Grand Seiko. I wouldn't get one for myself as I've heard many bad things about the omega co-axial movement. How about this Ulysse Nardin? It's a dive watch, yet more dressy.
