Had to go with Pierce Brosnan. I consider him MY Bond, and I'll tell you why.

As a kid, I had seen all the previous ones with Connery, Lazenby, Moore and Dalton on TV on a Bank Holiday Monday or a Christmas or something. Except for Licence To Kill which we had rented out on a holiday. To me, these movies were a bit like the Carry On films in a way, in that they were just old British things that came out when my parents were kids. I was just never really into them - and did a lot of my growing up during the 89-95 hiatus between the movies. They were just "old movies" to me you know?

When I was 17 Goldeneye came out. I was a bit confused that they had made a new one, and a big part of me was expecting it to be a bit of a disaster. But when early buzz was positive, I took my first ever girlfriend to watch it. I was quite impressed by what I saw - and I thought Pierce Brosnan was EXTREMELY cool! A couple of years later, Tomorrow Never Dies came out and at the time (I was 19) I LOVED it! Loved the movie, LOVED Brosnan. A year later when I was 20 my parents got me a Nintendo 64 for Christmas, with the Goldeneye 007 videogame. That game absolutely GRIPPED me.

It was Brosnan's incarnation of Bond that got me to really sit up and take notice of this movie series. In 1999, all the VHS (at that time there were 18 movies) were part of a buy one, get one free deal at my local MVC. So with my paycheque I bought the lot. Over the course of a week, I watched them all. All the old ones, I saw in a bit of a different light. I became the fan I am then I think. Of course, by the time I'd finished with them, The World Is Not Enough had come out. Years later, when Die Another Day came out, I got them all on DVD. Then I double dipped on them after Casino Royale came out to get the two disc editions.

I was really quite hurt that Brosnan was dropped after Die Another Day and I have only recently finally warmed to Daniel Craig. I had nothing against him, but I always thought Brosnan had one more movie in him and they should've allowed him to do it and go out with a bang before rebooting the franchise.

But Brosnan is my Bond. He made the movies cool for me, which in turn led me to rediscover the old ones and become a huge Bond nut.

Bought them all on Blu Ray last week aswell!

For me, I picked Daniel Craig, but Dalton comes in at a VERY close second place :)

So difficult to decide.

Sean Connery was the first and imprinted so many things on my understanding of Bond - so he will always deserve to be high up on my list.  However, in TB and YOLT he didnĀ“t appear to be very enthusiastic about his role anymore.  So that takes him down a few notches.

Sir Roger was the first Bond I ever saw - and therefore imprinted so many things on my understanding of Bond as well.  He stayed too long, I know.  So that takes a bit away of his greatness in this role, for me.

To choose between them, I guess Sir Roger would have a very slight edge on Connery, for me.

George Lazenby, well, I never really loved his portrayal.  But I appreciate it.  And I like that he is different from Connery and Moore and... well, everybody else.  But he did not get the time to grow on me, so he would always come in last on my list. Sorry.

Timothy Dalton.  So great, so underrated.  I loved him dearly when he took over from Sir Roger.  But he did not get the time to show more of his huge talent in this role.  So I feel a bit awkward to put him over Sir Roger or Connery (although he definitely made the role his own and succeeded at that tremendously).  In the end, one has to decide on what is there, not what could be.  So, I would have to put him behind the other two giants.

Pierce Brosnan.  I am biased here.  I always loved his work, I wanted him to become James Bond.  And when he did, I loved his take on the role.  He had more time to fill it and show more range than Dalton.  So... yep, I would put him between the giants and the could-have-been giant.

Daniel Craig.  I was sceptical at first, absolutely.  But he won me over very quickly.  Can I really rate him higher than Dalton?  Yes, slightly.  Only because he got the opportunity to broaden the expectations on the movie Bond. That would be the reason why he deserves to be rated above Brosnan, too.  Although I must admit: I find Brosnan more adept at comedy than Craig.  So that works against DC.

So, there you have it: lots of conflicting ideas on my side.  A rating therefore would have to be split up into many lists:

Favorite Bond (innovating the character)

1.  Sean Connery

2.  Roger Moore

3.  Timothy Dalton

4.  Daniel Craig

5.  George Lazenby

6.  Pierce Brosnan

Favorite Bond (adept at comedy)

1. Roger Moore

2. Pierce Brosnan

3. Sean Connery

4. Daniel Craig

5. Timothy Dalton

6. George Lazenby

Favorite Bond (adept at drama)

1. Timothy Dalton

2. Daniel Craig

3. Sean Connery

4. Pierce Brosnan

5. Roger Moore

6. George Lazenby

Favorite Bond (adept at action)

1. Daniel Craig

2. Sean Connery

3. George Lazenby

4. Timothy Dalton

5. Pierce Brosnan

6. Roger Moore

Favorite Bond (looks and charisma)

1. Pierce Brosnan

2. Sean Connery

3. Roger Moore

4. Timothy Dalton

5. Daniel Craig

6. George Lazenby

Favorite Bond (whole package)

1. Roger Moore / Sean Connery

2. Timothy Dalton / Pierce Brosnan / Daniel Craig

3. George Lazenby

Changing my list:

1. Craig ("My" Bond)

2. Dalton (Fleming's Bond, never got a chance to be in a GF/TSWLM/SF of his own...shame.)

3. Connery (Blasphemy! they say. Well, not really. Connery in his first four was untouchable, but YOLT, DAFT and NSNA do not do the character justice, I'm afraid.)

4. Lazenby (Shows promise, but like Dalton never got a chance to connect with the film audience.)

5. Moore (I love the guy, enjoy his movies, but can't take him seriously as 007)

6. Brosnan (liked GE, but his movies got progressively worse afterwards. May not be his fault, but the fact remains, someone's got to be at the bottom of the list.)

Of all the things I give much thought to day after day, THIS has got to be the one!  :D

I feel my opinion varies pretty frequently...but as far as who happens to be the BEST Bond, it's Sean Connery for me. The man just oozed all sorts of sex appeal but was also dangerously rugged in a sophisticated way: that's what appeals to me, as far as the character of James Bond goes.

If I had to do a ranking, it would go like this:

1.) Sean Connery - need I say more?

2.) Timothy Dalton - honestly, I relate to his Bond so much: rebellious, no nonsense, emotionally charged, and perpetually pissed....but a romantic at heart.

3.) Daniel Craig - he's slipped from the #2 slot, as I've realized how much I've really undervalued TD's approach. I'll give him another film or so to climb the ranks.

4.) Pierce Brosnan - he was my introduction to Bond back in '95, but no longer gives me the same satisfaction now that I'm older.

5.) Roger Moore - eh. Put it this way: I have to be in certain mood for a Moore film, and those moods are rare indeed.

6.) George Lazenby - can't even hold a candle to any of the guys above, which is a shame because I adore OHMSS.

So there you have it!

1. Connery- even though YOLT and DAF dropped off, you cant beat the others.  He was perfect mix of cool and violent

2.  Moore- yes its hard to take him seriously and he was too old at the end, but gosh they were entertaining

3. Dalton- wish he had been given a 3rd movie.  next to Connery, closest to Fleming's Bond in novels

4. Lazenby- only ranked ahead of Craig bc I love OHMSS

5. Craig- good actor but just cant get into the new ones as much as classics

6. Brosnan- besides GE, cant even watch the others. too much gadgets and CGI. Not Bond IMO

Equal first place on my list - Sean Connery and Daniel Craig -the Connery films were the first ones I saw (though not the very first - see below) and formed my impression of Bond, whilst the Craig films have re-invigorated the series, as has Craig's performance as Bond. I probably only have Craig equal to Connery rather than ahead because we  can't yet review his full series of films.

Next, Timothy Dalton - the local Bond because he was raised only a relatively few miles from where I am now. More like the Bond of the books, save in his approach to the ladies - then again, thinking about it, Bond was a one woman man in most of the books. He deserved better than two films.

Pierce Brosnan - underrated by some, but I enjoyed his performances and was surprised by them. To me he mixed the some of the virtues of his predecessors with few of the vices.

Roger Moore - to me he will always be The Saint and he was the obvious choice to play Bond after Connery's second leaving of the role. He's probably my favourite person to play Bond, if not my favourite portrayal. He has a natural sense of humour which would have worked as a relief in otherwise deadly situations as Bond. The problem for me was as he grew into the role the film makers indulged that humour rather than played against it.

George Lazenby - my first Bond but not my top Bond. He had the looks but not the full range of acting skills. Perhaps he would have developed had he continued as Bond. But somehow I'm not surprised he didn't continue - he had the bad luck to succeed Connery, when almost anyone might have found that a difficult act to follow.

I just finished a marathon of all 24 films. My first post here as well, so lets get into it.

1. Daniel Craig -- He is on another level compared to the rest of them. Really the only one who I think is a good actor in the role, though I love all the Bonds. But with Craig, you can actually see emotion, as opposed to just a sly look. He's a real person. He also is the only one to be convincingly fit enough for the role and his stunts are better than any other Bond (he does almost all his own stunts). I believe Craig is who he is passing himself off as.

2. Roger Moore -- I enjoy Roger Moore so much. He feels so much more comfortable in the role than anyone else. He really nailed down the humor of the series, though it certainly got over the top at point during his reign. He breathed life into 007. I thought that Connery and especially Lazenby were too stiff.

3. Sean Connery -- The man who started it all, but even without that credit, Connery deserves this. He was far more suave than any of the other actors, and delivered "Bond. James Bond" the best. I really enjoy his Bond, except for DAF & NSNA. As I said above, he was a bit stiff with the role -- I wish he played it with more vitality.

4. Timothy Dalton -- I really liked his take on Bond. It was very fresh. He was the most talented actor to play Bond until Craig. I disagree with the complaint that he played Bond too seriously. I really enjoyed that, especially coming off of the films that preceded. In many ways, I think he is better than Moore and Connery, but only getting two films hurts and Connery and Moore remain much more classic Bonds.

5. Pierce Brosnan -- He was pretty good. He never quite felt like Bond. He seemed out of place. He was also screwed by terrible scripts, but I still felt like the way he delivered was off. I feel that he didn't add anything new to the role. That said, he really wasn't a bad choice for Bond. I don't know who else would have been better at the time. I also grew as his films came out, so I love him for that.

6. George Lazenby -- Just awful. Didn't feel like Bond at all, when he was seducing woman I would cringe. Every line he said was said without inspiration. Nothing good to say about him.

Lazenby!  Criminally underrated performance.  The most human bond; the odd shaky line reading (actually not always his fault; 'branched off' anyone? Most of the Bonds would have had trouble selling that line) just adds to his more naturalistic portrayal.  Also love Moore and Dalton equally.  Brosnan was a solid Bond, but I think Craig is a tad overrated in the role (as Brosnan was during his tenure).  Edit: Connery was of course great in the role up until Thunderball (which seems to be the general consensus on here); while he appears bored in YOLT (presumably due to having perfected the role in Thunderball and of course being fed up with the media-mania) that film is still a fave of mine.

2. Roger Moore (even though some of his movies were silly, two out of my favorite five are his)
3. Daniel Craig (his abs ;)
4. Connery (love thinderball, the rest were meh)
5. Lazenby (love ohmss, hated him)
6 brosnan (can't stand him as an actor and certainly not as bond, goldeneye would be my favorite movie if it wasn't for him)

It's still Timothy Dalton.

He, more than any other Bond actor before him, came across as a world weary assassin who had been on the job too long, but was too good at what he did to quit or get fired.  He had the dramatic chops that Moore lacked, and he was even better dramatically than Sean Connery.  Connery had more personality, but Dalton had more of the class that Moore had.

Everyone who has played Bond brought something worthwhile to the table, but for me Timothy Dalton was the perfect Bond.
