The movie sounds like a lot of fun. It must have been a test screening.

Is it PG-13 or R?
The official Web site says it is PG-13 but a official email I got says it's R. Which one is it?

The other day while I was driving home from work down Hollywood Blvd I swear everywhere I looked... billboards, busses, bus stops, random poster places... THERE staring at me were Pierce Brosnan's glasses in that "After The Sunset" poster. It all made me quite JOYOUS!

I picked up a poster and a couple call sheets for AtS a few weeks ago for a decent price. I have yet to see any publicity for the film up in my area -- not even commercials (then again, I never watch television).

Well sounds good. While i haven't exactly knocked the doors down at his Bond films. Let down more by material and direction than anything else. TCA was a Bond film for me. That was how Brosnan could have played Bond. This'll get my $. And Robinson C was good also.

Plus, anything to help stem him along after Bond. Moore ain't exactly lit the screen up after or during Bond. But Bros has great comedic timing. Pity LOA bombed.

Anyways, i'll definantly line up for this one.

JUst got back from a screening. Overall: fun but not the slick caper cat and mouse I had hoped for. Pierce looked great and the movie has a few surpises in store. Recommended.

I thought I would start a separate thread for members to post their reviews (short or detailed) of After the Sunset...mine will be of the short variety.

Saturday was a rarity for me: seeing two movies in separate theaters on the same day. I took the kids to the matinee showing of The Incredibles (a great film, BTW, one of Pixar's best) and then treated my wife to dinner and a sneak preview of After the Sunset that evening.

Judging by the trailer and by previous Brosnan's flicks, I was expecting a slick, sexy, tense, cat-and-mouse movie. Well, while I did enjoy the movie, it was pretty much a laid-back, quirky, comedic caper film. Some of the comedy bordered on sitcom (including the Pierce/Woody gay angle) and played for some nice laughs...but in the end, it wasn't so much about whether Pierce did go after the diamond and/or was successful, but also whether he makes up with Salma after their little spat and the scenery/culture of the Bahamas.

The review if favorable partly because, as a Bond fan, you get to see Brosnan in an non-Bond setting (homosexual misunderstanding, unshaven face, etc). If it had been anyone else in the role, I would probably dismiss it as a run-of-the-mill master-thief-coming-out-of-retirement-for-one-last-job movie.

Covering most rating scales, I would give it a 7 (out of 10)/B avg./3 stars (out of 4)

On a footnote, I have a list of places I want to visit in the near future (well, sometime in my lifetime), and, after seeing the film, Paradise Island, Bahamas jumped a few notches on my list. Great location, I can see why Connery fell in love with the place while filming Thunderball.

So is it worth the 8 bucks to go see it or the 3 to rent it in a few months?

I'd already posted my comments in the other thread; but I'd say split the differnce and go to a $5 matinee. I enjoyed it, but as I stated in my other post, it was not a "slick caper". It was fun and I'll definitely buy the DVD when released.
