The film certainly did'nt deserve anything, except best song. I was sad Madonna did'nt get a much deserved nomination, but at least Eminem did.:) and it was nice to see the always untalented David Arnold ignored(like I was really surprised) I really am excited though, the company I work for has recieved a total of about 36 nominations:eek::):P;)

The nominees are:

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Adrien Brody
Nicolas Cage
Michael Caine
Daniel Day-Lewis
Jack Nicholson

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Chris Cooper
Ed Harris
Paul Newman
John C. Reilly
Christopher Walken

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Salma Hayek
Nicole Kidman
Diane Lane
Julianne Moore

"I was sad Madonna did'nt get a much deserved nomination"

Its a pity that the Oscars doesn't have a "Worst Song" catagory as Madonna would easily win it :)

The Oscars *have* a worst song catergory...it's called "Best Original Song", hahaha! Seriously...

But the Oscars don't need any other outlets for slapping Madonna in the face. This was clearly a snub as DAD was the only standout song this past year besides Eminem's. But the worst snub was threefold in 1996. Madonna was passed over for Best Actress, after having won the Golden Globe and BEATING Frances McDormand, who won the Oscar. Then her film EVITA was passed over for Best Picture...clearly because to nominate a movie called "Evita" with one clear star would be just as "bad" as nominating the actress who plays "Evita"...i.e. Madonna. And the third "fold"...they nominated "You Must Love Me" for Best Original Song, one of the few movie songs she recorded that she did not write, i.e. she couldn't take the statue home, and it won. And they had the nerve to ask her to perform it. Madonna, being the trooper she is, gave a stellar performance at the Oscars anyway, after having been snubbed completely...

Well that gives me something in common with Madonna then, don't you think? :)

Hey all,

Still, that's great about your company, NYCB! I'm happy for you guys too. Chicago totally deserves every nomination...well except Best Original Song, hahaha...but this is just another case of Dick Tracy / Evita...i.e. the Academy will probably give the award to Chicago in honor of all of the composers' work on Broadway, not necessarily for the song itself. But I hope Chicago can sweep...hey, it could win 12 and become the all-time record-holder, eh? It can't win 13 unless there's a Latifah/Zeta tie...

But anyway, Chicago was clearly the best movie of the year, hands-down. The LOTR movies are the best movies in HISTORY, hehehe...but of the year, it was definitely Chicago...

In any case these nominations are great! The past year was a steller year for film, especially toward the end. I am especially proud of Julianne Moore for her "double nominations" and Queen Latiffah for "Chicago";)

Ooo there's an argument with some legs...Madonna wouldn't know a great song if it slapped her in the face...that must be why she has had more Top 10 hits than the Beatles, is closing in on Elvis, has recorded two Oscar-winning songs before they won, and won 5 Grammys herself...

Hey all,

Yes I'm also happy about Julianne's double and Queen Latiffah's nom...as well as Salma Hayek, John C. Reilly, Michael Caine, and Meryl Streep's record-breaking 13th! Also it's good that they remembered Road To Perdition's cinematography and art...

I think "I move on" from "Chicago" will probably win best song. However it will be interesting to see how it's performed at the Oscars, considering that Catherine Zeta Jones will be inher 8th month of pregancy. She may not even be at the show:eek: I guess Renee could sing it with someone else. Perhaps Elton John;) he's always looking to attach himself to something hip and new. That was a joke. As for Eminem,I love the fact that he was nominated,he was clearly the "hip nomination",but he won't win. I can't wait to see him perform shirtless and sweaty at the Oscars:p

As usual Oscar has some interesting screwups, such as the fact that "The Two Towers" received a best picture nomination, yet Peter Jackson did'nt get Best Director:confused: Did they think the film directed itself:eek: Pedro Almodovar received a Best Director nomination, yet his great film "Talk to Her" was ignored for best picture. They forgot about the film;)

Dr.Noah what is you point. I am sorry that for the 40th Annversity of Bond it did not get a nomination for any thing in Sound Effects , Visual , Best Song , . But a Damn stupid cartoon gets "Best Song" . A boring LOTR's get more Special Effect **** and a tried Broadway musical get norminated . Brosnan wasn't even mention by his "Peers" in any of the other awards prior to the "Oscars". What was Nicholas Cage nominated for?? Adapation, you most be joking . Hopefully Salma Hayek will win then be casted in Bond 21. The Oscars are full of ****. They use to mean something now it a reward for just playing the game.

your hilarious:rolleyes:
In any case i'm over it already. Two of her previous film tracks have "WON" Oscars,so it's no big deal. However this would have been her first nomination as an actual songwriter. She'll have another shot in the future. And like I said at least the film (DAD) itself was totally ignored in absolutely every category, just as it deserved. The much hyped 40th anniversary Bond fell on deaf ears with the academy voters;)

Denise Richards and Rosamund Pike should have won Oscars. Would anyone else here have given them one?

Hm, sorry to say, but effect-wise, TTT beats DAD with both hands down.
However, it's a bit sad that no more sequel-scores will be nominated...

Has anyone seen The Pianist? How many freakin' nominations did this movie get?

I'm very bummed the actress from Secretary wasn't nominated. And some of those screenplay nominations... I don't know. Every year the Oscars look more and more like the Golden Globes to me. Something stinks.

I missed out on predicting who would be nominated. Does anybody want to make predictions before the ceremony? It's something I do every year anyway.

What the hell are you talking about? The Fellowship of the Ring didn't win any big Oscars last year--it lost Picture, Director, Adapt. Screenplay, & Supporting Actor. And The Two Towers hasn't won anything significant yet

I wish that would happen. It deserves it more so than any other movie on the Best Picture list, IMO. (Well, I do think Chicago is very deserving. A lot of hard work went into that movie. But it's by no means a significant piece of cinema in the way LORT is. Again, IMO.)

Dr. Noah - I'm behind you 100% on the Madonna thing.

I personally never would have felt a need to comment if it wasn't for Solitaire's unnecessary bash on Arnold. I guess he just couldn't leave well-enough alone.

All of the film in the best picture category are deserving of an Oscar. The same goes for all of the actors as well. 2002 was a very good year for great films, and it's just too bad they can't all win. However the nomination is an honor in itself.

IMHO "Chicago" is the best movie of the year and should win Best Picture, but all of the nominees for Best Picture are deserving. I was actually surprised that Richard Gere, Peter Jackson, and the Foreign Film "City of God" did not get nominations. "City of God" is brutally violent, but amazing (much like Mean Streets).

I think it's really sweet how you defend your boyfriend David Arnold. Too bad you don't have the heart to tell him he should find another line of work. One that does'nt involve "talent".
