So the real news here is that we get to wait another full two years to see another mediocre (at best) storyline by the gruesome twosome. And that´s that.
Now comes speculation about the 51years old (by then) Craig returning or not; and about studio wars.
If 2014/2015 was a great time for being a Bond fan, now we´re lost at sea, drifting on currents and winds made by the splashing naked sunburned feet of people with money and little taste and knowledge. Blast.
But then again, if Craig returned for his YOLT-done-right, I´d be happy. One never learns. One still thinks one can dream.
With well over two years to release - and over a year until production even starts shooting - and hardly anything known beyond the release date literally anything can still happen with BOND 25. There could be noumerous scripts and rewrites by P & W and others. The entire concept might change and change again, depending on the director. There's even a possibility for that YOLT adaptation some fans would like to see finally.
Being this far away from its premiere has also an upside for BOND 25. Good things, too, could happen.

True, Dustin. Very true. Hope springs eternal

I have not had a chance to read this whole thread, so my bad. But the reasoning for the 2-year release date announcement (usually it's only 1 year or so isn't it?) may be is to help force the studio sale.
"Hey look, a new Bond movie out soon so buy the bloody studio already!"

I would really like to see Craig back once more to do a true adaptation of YOLT and then let him sail off into the sunset. What happens after that is by the by. Bond can't last forever the way we know and love it.

Definitely. Craig after all would be one of the few people in-the-know on this. But it's also possible he has his reasons for evading a statement. As fans we often forget a simple equation: Craig on board BOND 25 means a significant part of its budget will end up on his bank account. That may not be to everybody's liking...
Intriguing! Care to eleborate?

On the other hand, there is nobody left in the studio business who wouldn't have an alternative to Craig by now*. Always a cheaper alternative, often even a very sound and intriguing one. It doesn't matter if you look at Fox or Disney, any studio would now have a short list of actors they'd like to see as 007, with the added advantage of being significantly less expensive.
So it's perfectly possible a studio wants to do BOND 25 - but only wants to do it with their own candidates. If you'd then be in Eon's shoes you might set the wheels turning in a very vague general direction - as this announcement would indicate - and then take your time. Plenty of time. Because you've got your ace up your sleeve, it just needs the right time to present it - again.
*In fact, part of the market research for such tasks is done on sites like ours. As is the polling on subjects such as Eon selling Bond...

Weighing in with little knowledge, I would imagine the 'Selling' story has as much weight to it as the 'JBUniverse' story. I can't imagine the Broccoli clan doing either. It would fly in the face of everything they have been striving to do of late with the court cases to bring everything in under one roof.
As to the release date and the paucity of other news, between now and this time next year when PreProd kicks off, there is plenty of time to drip feed the other news. Someone above alluded to Craig's Logan film promotion as being an interesting time for news; I daresay it won't be interesting as it will be a series of No comments.
Anyway, good luck to all.

His PR person will probably prohibit the "Bond" question - unless Craig wants to say something.

I would counter this by saying that the reason Eon could want everything under one roof at last is so they can put the whole thing up for sale. It's much easier to pitch a sale if there are no niggling little drawbacks, like a half-ownership with MGM.

idk if this has really been brought up but - Warner Bros announced last night that Wonder Woman 2 will be released on December 13, 2019.Now here's the interesting part. WB previously staked out that date for an "Untitled Event Film" (only announced a couple weeks back), with an "Untitled DC Film" scheduled for November 1, 2019 since last April. Now, it wouldn't make sense for two DC films to be out around a month apart so they've evidently swapped the "event film" for November, and DC (i.e. Wondy 2) is now in December. And guess when this announcement came? The day after EON/MGM drop the B25 date.Have a feeling this is a hint that WB have the rights....
Ooo! Well spotted.

Well, as far as anybody can tell Eon still share the property with MGM, so at least that wouldn't have changed - and might make selling a trickier business than if it was solely Eon's ownership.

Yay! November 8 probably means a preview showing on my actual birthday the night before. Finally!
It's a long wait, but the four year gaps are what gave us Casino Royale and Skyfall. I just hope it's the Shatterhand/Garden of Death story.
As for the distant future release date, this seems to be the modus operandi of studios now. Marvel has three dates in 2020, and not a single title among them. Warner Bros. announced their five year plan for DCEU about the same time as the announcement of SPECTRE, and it's still been subject to many changes. EON probably needs to "save the date" as much as anything else. I expect announcements of Craig, director, and then title, will each get its own release.

Wow! You're right... Deadline is absolutely NOT made up of tabloid rumor mill stuff! Denis Villenueve? Seriously? That would be amazing!

I think it is a done deal. They are just holding back on an official announcement. So now Craig is 'likely' to return? What happened to 'done deal'?
Anyway, nice to hear about Demange.

If Villenueve gets it he could bring Roger Deakins back to shoot another Bond since they just worked together on Blade Rinner 2049.

Not only that, I'm salivating over the prospect of a Jóhann Jóhannsson Bond score. Even though it'd be absolute blasphemy to most of you guys lol

*rubs hands with joy* "Buckle up, ladies and gentlemen and please keep your hands inside the ride at all times..the Bond machine is about lift off.." I have no idea about any of these directors myself but hey I'm always up for a new face behind the camera..

All 3 directors are great choices.
Starred Up and High Water make MacKenzie a particularly great prospect imo.
Damange's Top Boy was superb - more of a stylist, though that and '71 were plenty gritty t'boot..
Villinueve has proven style and makes dramatic tension an art form, much like Michael Mann circa Heat.
Interestingly Jack O'Connell has starred in '71 for Damange and Starred Up for MacKenzie. Can't help wondering if he's been for coffee with Babs at some point, putting her on the scent of these 2 directors (the latter being out of the blue, unless you consider the O'Connell connection)

MacKenzie.
No question. I have adored all his films, particularly Perfect Sense, which is a masterclass in tone control, where he tells a heart warming love story and a despairing apocalypse tale AT THE SAME TIME and makes it seem natural.
