I really like Brosnan as Bond, and enjoy about 65-70% of Die Another Day. I am in agreement with Zencat and others on the thought that the dialog is the major killer of this movie. Any time Jinx opens her lucious mouth I cringe at what might fall out. I have found that skipping the para-sailing chapter of the DVD makes the movie much better, and I love the ice ballet of battling exotics.

I put DAD above DAF, AVTAK, and LALD on my favorite Bond movie list, so it sees some time in the DVD player.

I'm one to usually say "to each his own," but I'm sorry, anyone who thinks Die Another Day is the best Bond movie ever should be barred from ever writing another movie review.

I fastforward through the whole Star Wars speeder chase and parasailing bit, too.

My cinema going experience was truly memorable. DAD is outstanding, a good Bond movie. Naturally there are some critiques I could make, but they can be overlooked.

It is a little embarrassing to see this thread keep popping up. Especially as we know Moonraker is THE BEST BOND MOVIE EVER!

Better than Casino Royale 1967? YOU WISH!

Third.

I recently watched it for the first time in a couple of years and - maybe in light of Casino Royale - I was a bit more critical of it than I once was (there really is a distinct shift in tone once we hit Iceland), but I still find it to be a highly entertaining Bond film.

Also agree with zencat about Moonraker. Seriously. Well, almost.

Here's another thread on Die Another Day. Sorry to bring this up AGAIN, zencat, but I do like your arguments and your change of opinion over the years.

I think Zencat's original assessment of DAD speaks volumes to the theory that the Brosnan era was largely a "comfort food" era with DAD being the ultimate platter served. I, too, enjoyed the confection that is DAD on opening day. Do I hold it in high regard now? Let me just put it this way...it cannot even begin to touch MOONRAKER's genius!

DAD is even worst than Moonraker, which already is a thinly A grade disguised Z big budget movie.

DAD is worse than cancer. It rots the brain. It's the evilest of all Bond movies ever made, with WINE being a close second. These director's should have been barred from making any other movie ever.

The director of DAD should be condemned to 250 years of movie jail. Come to think of it, he might enjoy it.

I have no clue how Michael & Barbara produced this and then did the great movie that is CR. It doesn't make any sense.

Poor zencat.

This thread keeps reappearing with the tedious inevitability of an unloved season.

Perhaps we should put it out of his misery (i.e. close it) :D

I think she's got a little life left in her still.

I have to admit... it does bring a smile to my face whenever I see it at the top of 'Today's Posts'.

As an instant potted history Greatest Hits of what the public perception of a Bond movie is - bikinis, Aston Martin, martinis, traitors, bad puns, decent suits, wacky gadgets, ker-azy titles with girls 'n' stuff, explosions, freaky-looking villains, a plot that's neither here nor there, weird locations and mad stunts - it's a perfect "Bond Movie". Ticks all those boxes. On one hand, therefore, it is a perfect encapsulation of all that a "Bond Movie" had become and therefore stands as "The Best Bond Movie Ever". Zencat is right.

On the other hand, it shows what a godawful lazy formulaic state the films had decayed into and a change was sore needed, and that, as a label, "Bond Movie" is a devastating insult. One might as well proclaim "Best Rusting Spike Through the Eye - Ever!" or "Best Gastrointestinal Squirty Plops - Ever!".

Interesting to see the term "hater" was as common in net-speak then as it is now.

Personally I can't stand the term "hater", but that's probably just me being a hater, with my evil hating ways.

I sorta liked DAD then. I sorta didn't then.

I sorta like it now. I sorta don't now.

Pretty much for the same reasons. I REALLY like the first part of the movie...then it starts to decline from there.

You could apply the same label to YOLT and Moonraker. :D

I just recently watched both DAD and TND. Despite the invisible car, the ice palace and superweapon, I still found DAD more interesting than the very pedestrian TND.

I would rather watch DAD (at least the first half) than DAF and TMWTGG.
