Anyone have any ideas who they would like to see as Bond's leading lady/counterpart for Bond 25 (whoever Bond may be by then). 

 

I'll start:

I also was going to proffer Vikander:
- she's European

- the right age

- the right look

- just won an Oscar (more sought after for their villains of late, but still)

- has already done a spy movie ("The Man from U.N.C.L.E.")

 

She's even worked with Christoph Waltz, to boot (this summer's "Tulip Fever").  Yes, she's an obvious choice, but then, so was Waltz.

 

I could also easily imagine another recent Supporting Actress Oscar winner, Lupita Nyong'o.  IMO she'd be less likely, based on the projects she's currently undertaking, but not impossible.  My guess is, if she were to do it, she'd negotiate to get the studio to back a pet project of hers as well.

And I'll once again proffer my (perhaps unlikely) choice: Q'orianka Kilcher.  She's flown under the radar since her teenage breakthrough as Pocahontas in Terrence Malick's "The New World".  She is:

- half-Swiss, half-Peruvian

- 26 years old

- fluent in English, Spanish, and German

- is an accomplished Black Belt Wushu Kung Fu and Stunt performer and has trained at the National Wushu Training Center and Impact Stunts since the age of 12

 

Also proffering, again, Italian model, skydiver, and BASE jumper Roberta Mancino (age 35).  An extreme athlete would be a natural choice for a bad girl assassin / henchwoman.

I just hope that the cast will not include too many high-profile people.  Because they will demand to get more scenes.  And that takes time and importance away from Bond.

Agreed. We need relatively unknowns... I'll make an exception for Emilia Clarke because most of what she has done has been TV, until recently.

She´d fit the profile of say, an Aidan Turner type of casting. Known for just a few tv things. She´d be a interesting choice.

I do also like the idea of Emilia Clarke portraying a female villain... but I think she could smolder as the Bond girl as well - so I'm torn between those two...

So far I haven´t seen Clarke in anything that would suggest she is capable of portraying a villain.  And since she is tiny, she would not be a imposing villain at all.

 

Debicki, however, has a "you can never really be sure what she´s thinking-quality.  And she is very tall.

I really don't think height has much to do with whether someone would make a good villain/henchman or not. Clarke is unwavering dominating as her character in GOTs and I think she could deliver a strong, and 'do not f**k with me performance' if she was required. Dragons or no dragons

Fair point, she wasn't great in The Night Manager... She's still more of a model than an actress at this point. But then, Olga Kurylenko wasn't notable in anything before she played Camille, and I thought she was great in QoS.

 

But just thinking about it, we really have been spoiled for the quality of actresses playing Bond girls since GE. The Craig era, in particular, has been fantastic for leading ladies.

We have been spoiled, you're right. Maybe that's occurred since the 90s as a progressive sign towards more established female characters? 

 

Also, I have a huge crush on Adele Exarchopoulos so wouldn't mind seeing her in a Bond movie in a couple of years. Not sure how likely that would be as Lea Seydoux has now starred in a recent Bond. These two worked closely (very closely) together on 'Blue is the Warmest Colour'.

As long as Monica Bellucci returns to give 'SPECTRE' more meaning for her small and near pointless role that could become something brilliant in 'Bond 25', I'm happy.

If Craig is out, I'll be so annoyed at EON for not planning the "mighty return" of SPECTRE for it to go down in flames with Craig's exit. Waltz would be wasted, and probably Seydoux and Bellucci if they wanted to keep a link.

 

I hope they prove that Bond is bigger than Craig to carry on the SPECTRE revival.

I would love them to carry on the SPECTRE revival, but not sure how well that would work if they had the same actors back, but without Craig...

I sincerely believe that EON would have wanted exactly what fans here wished for.

 

But the realities of filmmaking, especially on the canvas of a blockbuster, are just not the perfect circumstances for making a great film.

 

My take:

 

- EON was delighted to get the rights to Spectre and Blofeld and wanted to use both for a great entry in the Craig era

 

- SKYFALL´s billion dollar success was on the hand fantastic, on the other hand the worst that could happen creatively - since after that everybody had very clear ideas on how to repeat SKYFALL, instead of moving on

 

- Craig let EON know that he did not desire to return for a fifth time

 

- Craig´s injury made several planned sequences impossible and led to massive shooting around him and re-writing

 

- Knowing that critics and audiences consider him now one of the greatest Bonds if not the greatest, Craig became fearful of wrecking that legacy, therefore demanded Mendes´ return

 

- During the filming of SPECTRE, everybody including Craig noticed that Mendes was not perfect and could not make that jumbled story mix work again as well

 

- Craig´s planned departure led to the compromise of using Blofeld and Spectre while giving it also a finale that actually was premature and unsatisfying

Actually, I would like to see a great actress I haven´t seen too much of before.  I don´t want to see the usual suspects or "the girl from this or that tv show".

 

Unfamiliarity would be helpful, a discovery.  I believe EON, most of the time, went for exactly the right person.  Eva Green or Olga Kurylenko, while not totally unfamiliar, could shine even more because they had not been overexposed before.

 

It all depends, of course, on who will be Bond.  I would not want a much younger actress along with Craig.  It would be better to have someone in his age group.  Belucci was fine - but I get the feeling that her English was not good enough for a bigger role.

 

I could not give you a particular name right now - haven´t seen Felicity Jones in anything  yet.

Perhaps they also didn't trust their own courage re age. Casting Bellucci was a statement already but seeing her used so sparingly made me think they wanted to avoid the nasty comments from a certain angle. Which is all the more sad because she has been suggested for Bond at least for twenty years now...

Difficult to come up with names here, for the reasons already mentioned. The usual suspects are unlikely to make it. I supposed someone like Emily Blunt was six or seven years ago, not overexposed and not a particularly big name yet. One would look at theatres and bit players with potential.
