HAMMERHEAD issue no. 1 is out, and it's solid, though I miss the Ellis touch a bit. We'll have to see how it develops.

Latest issue of Eidolon is Ellis' best. It's action packed, but there are also some good dialogues. For the first time I'm impressed with some of Master's artwork. I'm not sure what to think of the interrogation scene, though. Looking forward to reading final chapters.

Hammerhead looks promising. Love the drawings.

Hammerhead 1 is very much stage setting, quite like the addition of Bond being on "baby sitting duty" because his pre-titlesesque mission goes so badly.

Well it's certainly more energetic in a 90's Bond sense and it does lack the dryness that Ellis has given the characters (M in particular) but impressive I thought.
Loving this new Bond comic book universe.

So am I, jonny69,  it's good to see Bond being done in so many formats. Now if only they could get the video games going...

I'm loving both new issues. EIDOLON's progression is thrilling and HAMMERHEAD delivers a nice dose of classic Bond.

I'm enjoying both. I prefer Eidolon, both in story and art, but Hammerhead is no slouch. It's a fun, breezy read. I think these runs show Bond at his best.

Dying to see how well they do with Felix in the stand alone.  I had always hoped we'd get a Leiter book series from IFP/Glidrose using a descendant of the Black Mask writers that had inspired Fleming like McDonald, Ellroy, Collins, Pronzi, or Parker.  Pipe dream, I know, but it would be cool to see it come full cycle: Fleming uses American pulp influences to revamp the British thriller which in turn inspired American writers to ape Fleming.  A Chandler-esque Leiter would have been amazing.  That said, Dynamite has a Brit, Robinson, writing it.  I remember liking his Sandman spinoff, Witchcraft, back in the day, and hopefully he has the chops.  The art looks amazing so far.

So I preordered the Casino Royale graphic novel on Amazon and I thought it was coming out on November 24. Just checked and the release date is now January 10, 2017. Anyone heard anything about it being delayed?

With comics and graphic novels release dates tend to fluxuate wildly,release dates are often just place holders that then change once they get a better ideas when they book is actually going to be ready. It's because each person can only start once the predecessor is finished, so if the writer misses his deadline, that delays the artist, which in turn delays the colorist and so on.

From what I've read, we may see a weary Felix who is pulled back into the world of espionage even if he's feeling burned out by it. I'm expecting a darker themed private detective style thriller. I'm also curious what role Bond and MI6 play, if any.

It's a bit odd to see this branching out only now, Leiter would have been the obvious candidate for his own adventures even back in the 80s when PI-fiction had a kind of renaissance with many diverse series. Estleman or Max Allan Collins could have been interesting, but for my money Shane Stevens would have been perfect. The added advantage would have been that only very little is known about Leiter, so a writer could have shaped the character much more than Bond.

As for Bond's possible involvement in the Leiter adventures, I suppose that would work best if used only very rarely. Let Leiter first become his own character, so that people want to read about him.

I agree about the 80's, Dustin, and love the callout to my homie, Estleman, but I was shocked after Young Bond and the Moneypenny books in the noughties that they didn't do something similar with Felix.

The original illustrator has been dropped. Still no official date for a release or about a new illustrator...

Now, I've seen these pop up at my local shop but have yet to commit. There's something about the art and titles that seem a little pretentious. For me, a modern Bond comic just seems... Eh. Mind you, I have yet to flip through one.

They're great.

A promising take on Bond that feels both smartly contemporary and classic.

I take these over the vast majority of continuation novels. I'm getting all the first printings instead of the collected hardcovers. I think that's more special with things like this.

HAMMERHEAD continues to deliver. The latest episode puts a very clever spin on the gadget-laden car.

Yeah, I liked that. Cool moment with Bond sitting in the chair, talking to one of the goons ala Connery and Craig too. It's perhaps a less polished experience in Hammerhead, but the classic Bond film tropes really make for a fun read.

I'd say what you're referring to is related to issue 1 central panel when Bond is talking to Moneypenny.

I believe he's referring to issue three. A gadget car is a main focus.

Fair enough gents, you've peaked my interest. Against my original and perhaps harsh passing opinion, I bought the VARGR series online. May as well start at the beginning, after all. If all goes right, it should be in my mailbox by the end of the week...

 

Truth be told, the series sounds promising and I'm now looking forward to getting my hands on it.
