Not sure if this has been mentioned or if it was just forgotten, but if CR sells well it sounds like we'll be getting a LALD adaptation next.

Wasn't that the plan anyway, to remake Fleming's entire backlist? Though probably sensible to condition it by sales.

From the looks of this cover this could turn out to come closest to that old fan dream of period faithful Fleming adaptations. I think the hardcore fans are pretty sure to buy these.

Felix #6, great ending to a great story.  As hard-boiled and grubby as I hoped it would be.  I will be buying the deluxe trade on this one.  My favorite so far.

I really enjoyed that last issue of Felix Leiter. Overall this series has been great and actually gave Felix a character separate from Bond. 

A few more spoilery thoughts:

-I'm really glad that Tiger wasn't killed off. I had this sneaking suspicion that he would be early on, particularly since he hasn't popped up in Black Box yet, despite it taking place in Japan.

-So did we figure out where this takes place timeline-wise? It's after Eideleon when Felix is working for the CIA, but is it before Black Box and Service?

-That SPECTRE reveal... I had an idea it was coming when they said she found somewhere to belong that wasn't Russia. But I still did a little spit take when I saw it. I guess they never did really tie up all the loose ends of SPECTRE in Eideleon. Maybe they'll make periodic reappearances. I just hope they don't do what they did in Spectre (the film) and have them be behind every single thing.

​Cover and a release date. It's may not be a final cover, but I'm liking the 50's pulp fiction style it has.

That cover is glorious. It looks even better than I imagined, and if they manage to keep that same atmosphere inside the book, it's going to be something really special. I may actually opt for the mass market paperback version so it matches my individual trades. But I'll wait and see what it looks like before making a final decision.

I agree with that.

I liked the ending for two reasons.

It was a pyrrhic victory that matched the book's tone. Felix helped save the day but the villain escaped his clutches. I also liked it because it offered a clear distinction between Felix and Bond. Felix tries his heart out and has his own unique charm. But he's not Bond, and that's the whole point. I have my fingers crossed Alena makes another appearance in a Felix continuation. And if she doesn't, she's still out there. I like that mystery.

Black Box #5.  Have you ever been in a bar where someone is singing karaoke in a language they do not know or understand to a song they've never heard before? This is that.

Black Box, i've found generally, is an attempt to do a Lewis Gilbert Bond film, but within the confines of comic book Bond's world. Some of it is working, I think this is the best of Bond girls presented in the comics so far, but some of it really isn't, with the villains in this being, by contrast, easily the weakest.

Issue #5 had a lot going on, and the transition at the end was abrupt, but it was good fun. The Lewis Gilbert Bond film comparison is a good one.

First issue of Kill Chain out today. Pretty entertaining. A promising start to a new arc by Andy Diggle. Hopefully does not fizzle out in the end like Hammerhead did.

Two things I liked about the debut Kill Chain issue.

 

1. Bond as a cold hearted assassin drinking away his regrets.

2. The team is using the same art style as Hammerhead. 

 

The DB10 keeps popping up throughout these comics as well which gives them all a sense of continuity.

I was also disappointed in the last issue of Black Box. It just seemed like a rushed ending, with not a lot of wrap up. And still did not answer my question of where the hell is Tiger Tanaka. I feel like all of the story arcs have had issues with sticking the landing, aside from Felix Leiter. Still hoping we get another run of that.

 

I am still looking forward to the Moneypenny one-shot. It's interesting that the synopsis tells us she shares most of Naomi Harris's version's backstory.

Agreed. It was all very simple and anti-climatic.

Bond shoots the henchman in the head, throws a knife at the main villain and walks away.

I still enjoyed what happened in the other five issues, though.

I'm not that excited. But I'll give it a read.

Nope. But we have the Casino Royale graphic novel before then, which I'm really eager to read.
