True. And Newman is an old pro.

Oops, rather late in the day to record the score a few weeks before the release of the film. Then again, that´s blockbuster film making these days...
Maybe Mendes had only recently locked the film? Or is this rescoring of some bits after re-edits?
Wasn't there a quote recently from Daniel Craig that Mendes has until mid-September to lock the film? (In which case final picture lock must've occured in the last few days.)
And while it may seem very tight to be recording the music a matter of weeks before the premiere, if Newman has been working on the score for months the actual recording stage should be a relatively straight forward affair.(If he was only just starting to write everything, I would be worried. But the music should be all composed and arragened, so a week or two in the studio should be all they need to record and mix in the score.)
I agree, he'll have had character themes and things like that written for months by now as well as a good idea of the sound based on the script long before he was shown footage, or indeed filming finished.

I really hope Oberhauser has his own cue.

The edit was locked in the first week of September. This with the score being recorded now, it's roughly the same time frame as Skyfall.

Good to hear! Thanks!
But movie composers surely must have nerves of steel...
By the way - all this talk about "hopefully the score incorporates the song´s melody"... wouldn´t it be easier to use a main melody of the score for the song?

Barry would often work right up to deadline, and I was shocked to find that most of the past scores seem to have been recorded in 5 days or less. It must be unbelievably complex, and always reliant on having the final, FINAL cut in front of you.
When you think of the kerfuffle, for example, over "Thunderball" - very much a last minute replacement for Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, yet there's at least as much of the TB theme in the score as MKKBB. Either John Barry had the two theme ideas down already, or there must have been a lot of last minute re-writing of that score?

Or... he simply did use the other theme in his score as basis for the song...?

I wonder. Reputedly John Barry and Don Black had to come up with a theme which used the film's title as the title - not something that bothers the producers so much these days.
According to the book "John Barry; The Man With The Midas Touch" the main thrust of the score was MKKBB. Also, the original soundtrack album, released decades before the 2003 re-mixes with additional cues features music taken mostly from the first part of the film. Should we read into that that the album only included cues that were ready for release because the complete soundtrack hadn't been quite recorded?
Actually, according to the re-mix CD sleeve notes, we should; "Barry was under enormous pressure to finish Thunderball's score, and he had only finished recording half the music when the time came to put together the original soundtrack LP. As a result, only music from the first half of the film was heard on that album."
Was this, I wonder, because of the producers pulling the composer off the soundtrack to write a new song? I'd argue more than likely. In the end though we got a very good soundtrack, probably my favourite. But the pressure must have been intense!

Absolutely! But Barry thankfully was a genius.

No doubt about that in my mind.
The lack of music from the second half of TB on the album - especially the music for the underwater battle scenes, based around the "007" theme - was a disappointment for me when I bought the LP in the 1970s. Thankfully put right in 2003. But the pressure Barry was under explains the absence.

Sadly only 1 Disc...
Skyfall's score had 1 disc and featured a lot of content.

But with a possible runtime from 160 min., we have a complete Score with 2 Disc. With only 1 Disc we have 40-50 Min. of unreleased Music

Woohoo! £14.04?
Amazon have some odd prices. Glad there's no track listing yet...always feel they can give a little too much away to those avoiding what they can before the film.

It could just be a sort of placeholder since there's no tracks or duration listed or artwork.

I'm really going to try to avoid listening to the soundtrack before watching the film. I've always found this to be the most detrimental spoiler of all - knowing the light and shade of the cues pretty much tells you when something dramatic is about to about to happen, particularly in the action tracks. And yet every time, I listen to it first...
