Grief, I hail from the days when Blue Eyes, Mr Asterix, Blofeld's Cat and zencat were all at the helm.

I do wonder as to their whereabouts.  Am aware of zencat's BookBond blog site, but the rest...??

Remember in the books how Blofeld was the brains behind a lot of micro organizations before SPECTRE?

My guess Quantum could be one of those groups right before the formation of SPECTRE.

Anyhow I'm hoping this film can somehow connect/link itself to CR and QoS, possibly even Skyfall if there could be a way?

Dead excited. November can't come soon enough.

We joined here around the same time JC, almost to the exact day, and just about sneaked into that era!

The nostalgia for those CraigNotBond morons will start flowing soon... :P

Anyone else feel like commenting on how this thread managed to gain 18 FULL PAGES of posts after only existing for 4 days? That's gotta be a record.

I feel like it's like that with each new Bond film announcement. The excitement sets in, lots to talk about and discuss. This record will probably get broken with Bond 26 :P

Should have known. Now that Blofeld seems to be back, it couldn't be too long until the cat returns.

Now, where's the padlock for the lobster tank?

Well, well, well.

Very good to have you back on the radar sir.  How the devil are you?  And where have you been (if I can ask this bearing in mind my less than stellar presence)?

I am still awaiting that 'pinned together' photograph of your stay in Thailand's Bond island....  Did it ever get done?

Hope Life is treating you fairly.

Unrelated to current topic direction, but while I'm happy to have another one-word title for Craig's 4th, I'd be happy without one for his 5th.  There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

The title has grown on me.  I was happy to have another one-word, but at the same, would've liked something of unknown or perhaps unreal provenance.  By that, I mean that SPECTRE sounds and looks like an actual word, "specter", which means "ghost" or "something widely feared as a possible unpleasant or dangerous occurrence".  Most one-word Bond titles are made-up amalgamations of real words.  Put them side by side and you see what I mean:

GOLDFINGER

THUNDERBALL

MOONRAKER

OCTOPUSSY

GOLDENEYE

SKYFALL

SPECTRE

One of these things is not like the other.  Granted, Goldfinger can be an actual last name, and GoldenEye, while the name of Fleming's house, is also a kind of bird (perhaps Fleming found the name in "Birds of the West Indies" by ornithologist James Bond), but the rest are original derivations whose meaning isn't self-evident or evident based on Bond knowledge.

I feel like all our dreams have been realized. I believe everyone working on SPECTRE was suggested here before it happened besides maybe Dave Batista*. I'm so happy with SPECTRE so far, it's overwhelmingly.

I can't wait!  20 bucks or pounds bets that Batista will administer a wrestling hold!

I'm excited also that we may see some closure to the Quantum group.  I had my head down when we got a continuation Bond movie, only to think that they would never finish the story.

A "Thunderball" is another name for a Mushroom cloud or a thunderbolt, Fleming, being in Military Intelligence, would have know both terms.

I never knew that about Thunderball.  Finally, that makes sense (okay, I feel stupid now.)  Similarly, "Goldeneye" was also the name of a military operation Fleming worked on.

Blofeld is a multi-film continuing character. I doubt they'd tie down a property like Waltz into such a consuming contract.

Blofeld's first appearance (on film and in the novels) it's as the puppet master of Largo (Thunderball's main villain).

So i'm guessing that Waltz's character, like Largo, works for SPECTRE and that Blofeld will be revealed in the final reel.

Perhaps Scott - he'd sign a multi-picture deal - or surprise/secret casting, as was Connery in Prince of Thieves (i know, i know, but you get the point).

Waltz has said "It's [his character is] more interesting than that [Blofeld]".
Suggests the 'brother' rumours are true :( If it's a blood brother then i can't imagine that plot doing anything to enhance the franchise.

And that 'terrible truth behind SPECTRE' in the official synopsis, sure that could be that Blofeld is Bond's brother (hope not). Could also be that SPECTRE has infiltrated British Intelligence (namely, Andrew Scott).

I think it's the latter. Remember the loose end in Quantum of Solace; the British prime minister's aid was working for Quantum (he was at the Opera meeting). Well, Eon have said that SPECTRE will include Quantum and so i think the Prime Minister's aid will be a factor, tying Quantum and SPECTRE together.

Whatever happens with SPECTRE, Blofeld, M, Moneypenny etc - I highly doubt they'd do anything to change the fact that Bond was an only child whose parents died in a climbing accident. They established his (Daniel Craig's Bond) history when Casino Royale came out with the James Bond Dossier - giving a detailed history of his early life, school, military career etc.

The dossier made reference to Bond previously being based in Rome, didn't it? A nod to that would be great, but perhaps a niche step too far realistically.

I would hope so. I think there's certain things in Bond lore which should remain constants, no matter the interpretation.

I thought the same thing about Craig in 2005!

Waltz has said "It's [his character is] more interesting than that [Blofeld]".

Wasn't his answer more about him being "the head of SPECTRE"? I could be wrong but I thought he was implying that Blofeld was more than "just" the head of SPECTRE in this film.

I´d love "SPECTRE" to feature Blofeld - played by an actor who really is a secret and will remain so until the first screening.
