Thanks to coco1997 for bringing this to my attention.
The first episode of Penny Dreadful is now available to view online. It can be viewed for free on Showtime's website as well as on Youtube.

Another Bond connection to this series, the 2nd Unit Director is Vic Armstrong.

I enjoyed the first episode. I love that line he has about murdering the world to get to his daughter and he delivers it perfectly too.

Spoiler
I thought the tarot cards was intentional given both Logan and Mendes have talked about their love for Live and Let Die (indeed I read somewhere the discussion with Daniel Craig which led to Mendes doing Skyfall, started because they realised that Live and Let Die was the first Bond movie both saw)

Just watched the first episode on youtube. Extremely cool show. Got off to a bit of a slow start but it really picked up once Timothy Dalton's character entered the fray. I really wish I had Showtime because I would be faithful to this one. For anyone who has ever loved the foggy London atmosphere of a Conan Doyle adventure, it doesn't get much better than this. Very well acted, scored, and filmed. Creeped me out a few times as well. I'll try my best to keep up with it, but in the meantime I absolutely recommend that you guys give this a try. It's a lot of fun.
Oh, and John Logan's writing is positively sublime. The fact that we'll be getting a whole Bond adventure from this guy is really, really exciting.

Still haven't had a chance to sit down and watch this one yet. Been wanting to wait until I could watch it on my larger display as opposed to a computer screen, although I found today that it's on Hulu, so I'll hopefully take in a viewing of it sometime either tonight or more likely tomorrow. Still, it's great to hear all of the positive reviews it's gotten so far.

Watched the pilot earlier this morning. It's terrific. Dalton was the standout here, and I'm not saying that because I'm a fan. He commands your attention when he's on screen. This is definitely going to be appointment television over the coming couple of months.

Logan would agree with you. He mentions Dalton's ability to draw attention in Empire.

Outstanding! Everything about it is exceptionally well done, but Dalton is THE standout. Exactly the gravitas needed to anchor the show's reality. I don't want to have to subscribe to Showtime to see it though. Maybe I can threaten to cancel my satellite service and convince my provider to give me 90 days of free Showtime to stay with them...

Looking forward to it. Dalton deserves a huge comeback and the invitation to join the A-list. I would love him to be the headliner of a spy series on cable...

He is the only Bond actor I could easily imagine being Bond all these years. Even now, I´d love to see Dalton as Bond again.

David Warner's voice at 0:24. I think it's Rory Kinnear's character he's talking to.

Couldn't agree more. I'd love to see them go the Never Say Never Again route and have Dalton playing an older Bond or a Bond coming out of retirement for another mission.

You beat me to it Royal Dalton!
Some great pictures there
Even though there is a big age difference Eva Green and Tim Dalton look good together.
I really like her. Very enigmatic and a terrific actress.
I loved Penny Dreadful. Think its going to be great.
Skyfall, even though Kinnear is credited as 'The Creature' I'm pretty sure he wasn't in the pilot ... or if he was there must be some fabulous make up going on!!

Hi Lady Rose!
This looks good, doesn't it. I haven't got Sky anymore, so I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD to see it. But I hope it's a big success for them.
Regarding Rory Kinnear, I'm pretty sure it's him talking to David Warner in this trailer at 0.24: https://www.youtube....h?v=CbZ2xuagXdE.
If it is him, he seems to be playing a normal person there. Maybe his character is killed and Frankenstein resurrects him and he becomes the Creature then?

That would make perfect sense .... I suspect you may be right there.
Showtime actually have the pilot on their website but its bot available to us here in the UK
I've seen the pilot and loved it. It has everything I love ... Horror, Tim Dalton and lots of Bond connections

Apparently Penny Dreadful had a terrific premiere last night. It had 1.44 million viewers, which doesn't include the 900,000 who watched the premiere early on outlets like Showtime's website or Hulu. According to EW.com, the premiere's ratings were better than the premiere ratings of Showtime's other hit shows, Homeland and Masters of Sex. It also had the youngest viewership of any Showtime premiere since Dexter premiered back in 2006.
'Penny Dreadful' ratings best 'Homeland' series premiere

For those asking - Kinnear is not in episode 1, he doesn't appear until episode two. I will not say who he plays or the nature of his appearance for fear of spoilers, but I will say there will not be any debate that you've seen Rory Kinnear or not when he does.

Loved the second episode . Standout performance by Eva and Orion, you were right about Kinnear. You can't miss him! ( can't get over how much he looks like his Dad).
Also loving Harry Treadaway.Lots of potential there.

I've just found out I can't watch this. It's being shown on Sky Atlantic in England and for some reason Virgin Media doesn't have that channel. I'm genuinely upset by this. I guess I'll just have to wait for the inevitable DVD release.

A couple of (likely unintentional) Bondian moments in the pilot episode...
Spoiler
I thought the first spoiler you mentioned may have been intentional. My husband and I noticed the same things you did when watching tonight. We watched the first two episodes and were blown away. I'm really looking forward to more of this series!
Ironically, I watched the two-episode "Dr. Who" finale for David Tennant last night. Of course, this featured Dalton, as well. His "Penny Dreadful" part has more meat to it, but I enjoyed seeing him in "Dr. Who" (which I had read about years ago, but for some reason never got around to watching till now).
Anyway, great to see Dalton looking (and sounding) so good!

Thanks for the pics Royal Dalton. Can never decide if Eva Green is attractive or not. She's certainly enigmatic though which makes her very interesting .
I find Eva absolutely stunning.
Some fantastic acting from her and Mr. Dalton in last night's episode.

I agree, coco. I find Eva to be quite stunning ... and far more interesting to look at than the typical Hollywood stereotype. I also thought the acting in this last episode was stellar. There's a great behind-the-scenes video of the séance scene on the Showtime website (but be forewarned that, depending on how much you have or haven't watched, there are potential spoilers on the site): http://www.sho.com/s...y-dreadful/home
