I'm sure it will eventually grow on me but I see it working better in the context of the film, matched with Daniel Klienmen's credits, then as a piece that stands on it's own.
My thoughts exactly, Gobi-1..

Like 'Die Another Day', maybe. I thought that worked very well with the title sequence.

100% agree. And I thought was pretty evident after hearing the 15 second sneak preview.I'm sure it will eventually grow on me but I see it working better in the context of the film, matched with Daniel Klienmen's credits, then as a piece that stands on it's own.

Is the song referring to Bond's feelings about Swann, perhaps?
I'd agree with that idea.
The song is a bit of a surprise, nothing like the intro would suggest. It's growing on me now I'm getting used to it.

"I never shoot to miss, but I feel like a storm is coming"
We know Sam Smith has sight of the script before writing the song - a reference above to 007 being, in Mr White's words "a kite dancing in a hurricane"?
Guess it could be.
Also reminded me of the fact Bond says the line "there's a storm coming" in SKYFALL (and there's a very similar line in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES).

Thing is, this isn't a Bond song - it's a Sam Smith song and will ride on his name alone.
I like the lyrics and the meaning behind them, but his voice isn't right to me and I doubt it'll grow on me sadly. I'll listen to it when I have to but I won't go out of my way.
....and it's only going on the iPod later as it's my duty as a 007 fan to have all the songs in my collection.

Me too, actually. Getting used to the structure and tone helps a lot.

You put that song against the Casino Royale credits and I bet it works very well.

I do wonder if the song was sung by a female singer would it sound better
Posted 25 September 2015 - 07:38 AM
I wonder how the credits will look. Nothing nightmarish as 'Skyfall' I expect.
And a music video? Probably have Sam singing in that dark, dingy place where Bond finds his name on the wall.

Liking that. Does go on a bit though.

I think the titles could be reflective. Pensive.

Perhaps it's a ridiculous question but I wonder if the lyrics are related to the plot in any way? I mean, was Sam Smith simply told to write words that match the music, or was he briefed with the story, hence "I've spent a lifetime running; And I always get away; But with you I'm feeling something; That makes me want to stay" and "How do I live; How do I breathe; When you're not here I'm suffocating; I want to feel love run through my blood; Tell me is this where I give it all up".

The lyrics do relate to the plot, from what I know.

Gutted he didn't mention a 'spectre' or anything.

It's a nice little love song. No doubt fits in with the OHMSS redux theme this film seemingly has going for it. I imagine this is the Bond producers 21'st century response to We Have All the Time in the World.

For the Craig era, I still greatly prefer YKMN and SF. But upon consideration, I do think this is better than AWTD. Some of the falsetto I'm not terribly fond about. But it's far from a disaster. I do think it's a grower.

This was always going to have mixed reactions. It's Sam Smith.

If it is reflective of the film itself, as most songs are, I don't know if it's good or not Bond is getting so sentimental and romantic in his career! It's all very....dramatically romantic for 007.

It's not bad, I just think it lacks that killer chorus, you are waiting for it to get going, and it never really does.
Still, that's on one hearing, I'm sure it will grow.

Maybe Bond still longs for Vesper.
Posted 25 September 2015 - 08:12 AM
I´m loving it now. And it is absolutely a Bond film song. However, it is very different from most of them, in its conception as a lament (great word, I know) even original.
And now people probably want something less original.
But that´s the thing with Bond songs - they will always divide people.

I see Sir Roger's given it a thumbs-up on Twitter, although it must be said he appears to be in the minority. Quite a few saying it reminds them of Michael Jacksons 'Earth Song' - even Radio 1 are having a little dig!
