Not only would that be flipping AWESOME. (And a great extra added to my Skyfall DVD )
It will surely be THE LAST CHANCE for anything like this to ever happen again.
I'm crossing my fingers.

I was about to say, "It will never happen". But you know what they say about saying "never".

Never sa.....yeah yeah, I won't do it.
Well, it's then or nothing I'd have thought. This is the big one. Fingers crossed...!

Well, it's not an EON event, so who knows..
But if he won't show up, having 5 Bond actors appear in some form or another together would still be great.

I agree but can you really have a Bond reunion without Connery?

Well, bearing in mind my track record of betting against you, I won't say No.

Fantastic news, but we shouldn't forget that Casino Royale was nominated for 9 BAFTAs and won only 1, and there was huge critical and industry support for that film as well (particularly after the vicious attacks on Daniel by the tabloid press and internet haters was proved to be wrong). Skyfall seems better placed for some of the categories than CR was (eg cinematography) but I get the sense that BAFTA often think nomination is enough for such explicitly commercial work WON Best Sound NOMINATED Best British Film Best Actor (Daniel Craig) Best Music Best Screenplay - Adapted Best Cinematography Best Production Design Best Visual Effects Best Editing
Great news and pretty much agree. Although I think Skyfall has a better chance to win more BAFTA's because of having more award winning talent behind the movie than CR (Deakins, Bardem, and Mendes), I think it has a better chance to win Best British Film than CR had.

Roger Deakins nominated for Cinematography! Thomas Newman nominated for Score!
I think it's a total of five nominations for SKYFALL. Just confirming. Incredible.

No Best Pic. BOOO!!!!!

No Best Pic. BOOO!!!!!
Normally I wouldn't complain, but since they nominated nine (!) films, would it have hurt them to nominate Skyfall as #10?
Bardem and Dench could also have easily replaced Arkin and Weaver in the best supporting Actors categories. But with 5 nominations overall, it's hard to be angry.

SKYFALL Oscar nominations:
- Cinematography
- Score
- Original Song
- Sound Editing
- Sound Mixing
First nominations for a Bond movie since 1981.

Dissapointed nothing for Javier or Judi, and of course Best Picture (never going to happen, really) but proud 'Skyfall' is being nominated for the technical side of the film which was a major wow factor itself, and for the music.
Let's hope 'Skyfall' bags at least one! Still a great statement - "'Skyfall', Nominated For 5 Academy Awards"

Can't say I'm surprised by the non-nominations in the big categories. This Amour must be something. This was the first I've heard of it. Same with Beasts of the Southern Wild and The Master.
While I'm always glad to see the Bond team get nominated in any category, I can't figure out the Thomas Newman nomination. When you consider the numerous snubs of John Barry and Newman's being no different from anything David Arnold has done for 15 years, it makes you wonder if they just needed another nominee or what. I am that underwhelmed by that score.

Nominated for Best Song, Best Soundtrack, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Cinematography

With the obvious Oscar-fodder out there, I'm proud to see a franchise always snubbed now being nominated for the technical nods it deserves for this film.

Ah, well... if they don´t nominate SKYFALL in the Best Picture category then the Oscars just don´t want to do it "properly" with 007 - only honorary awards or "special tributes" seem to be allowed. Or is it a snubbery against a British franchise being more enduring than any American series of films? Harry Potter did not get any love either. Alfred Hitchcock lost out again and again. Stanley Kubrick.
Not nominating Kathryn Bigelow this year is pretty dumb either. Republican backlash? Has Clint Eastwood mobilized his age group?
By the way: this maximum 10 nominations for Best Picture rule (in order to include more popular films) really does not work at all... as if there were only 9 films award-worthy this year.

IMO it missed out on the major noms of script, direction and production (picture) because of a couple of heavy handed pastiche moments that put it in the comedy genre - and comedies very rarely get the nod. Even if they did, Skyfall wouldn't make it since it's neither a comedy, nor a fully fledged drama/thriller because those dreaded moments of pastiche are just moments, out of kilter and context with the mise-en-scene of the film.
Oscars reward films that take themselves seriously, not those that jump out of the drama for a moment to say "Hey, look i'm just a movie, ain't this fun?", then back into the drama expecting the audience's suspension of disbelief (an Oscar essential) to be unrattled by the handbrake stop/start of the drama.
The popcorn audience couldn't care less, but the Oscar voters obviously do. In previous incarnations of Bond it didn't matter because they were far more parodic, thus never in sight of serious Oscar contention, but with Skyfall it's a real shame, since those handbrake stop/starts are so few and so unnecessary and the rest of the drama they so needlessly betray is so very damned good. Without them i think Skyfall had a real shot at some major nominations.

Sometimes the fanboy-ism of Bond fans makes it difficult to realize that perhaps Skyfall shouldn't be nominated for a best picture award. (not saying all the others are necessarily deserving either, but that's another issue). It was a good, fun Bond film. Maybe the best.

I'm satisfied that at least the film got nominated for five Oscars, CR got 0 Oscar nominations. My respect for Oscars ended after finding out that Hitchcock never won an Oscar for Best Director. Very hard for Bond to get Oscar recognition because of it being British and an action franchise.Ah, well... if they don´t nominate SKYFALL in the Best Picture category then the Oscars just don´t want to do it "properly" with 007 - only honorary awards or "special tributes" seem to be allowed. I am not surprised Newman got nominated. The soundtrack was pretty impressive and the most inspiring since The Living Daylights. I did not see the Cinematography nomination, anyone have a source?
