I am totally PISSED OFF at how Skyfall was virtually snubbed by the Golden Globes...what...is Javier Bardem chopped liver?? Did people fail to pick up on Sam Mendes' directing or Roger Deakins' cinematography?? A joke indeed...

Adele's theme has been nominated for a Golden Globe.
Dame Judi Dench nominated for THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL.
Reminds me of Shakespeare in Love... We all knew that Judi Dench won the Oscar because she was the new M...
And no Bardem, but Richard Gere???? Come on...

I do agree with the Golden Globes in that SKYFALL only deserved one nomination, it's just disappointing that it got the wrong one. Deakins should have been nominated.

I agree that if anyone deserves anything this awards season, it's Deakins for his cinematography.

In fairness, I don't believe the Golden Globes has a cinematography category.
Then I guess Deakins wasn't snubbed afterall.
I haven't seen the nominations, just going by what others have posted here. In that case, I think those behind the nominations got it right for the most part when it comes to SKYFALL, the exception being its nomination for the title track.

An indicator for the BAFTAs next year? I'll be surprised if SF and its cast and crew aren't mentioned in dispatches, if not up for gongs.

That's a positive sign, but very surprised Roger Deakins missed out in the Technical Achievement Award category.

Good news on the most of it, some dissapointing near misses, but looking to the Critics Circle awards now in January for a good scoop!

2012 SHOWBIZ AWARDS
COMEBACK & FILM
JAMES Bond’s smash hit 23rd outing Skyfall became the highest-grossing film of all-time in the UK and the only Bond film to earn $1billion at the box office.
Daniel Craig’s success was even more amazing since the movie almost didn’t get made due to lack of funding.

Nice one.
Not really an award, but German "Rolling Stone" readers voted Skyfall "Movie of the Year" and Adele's song "Single of the Year".

This is very interesting - Scott Feinberg, who has one of the best awards prediction records, currently thinks SKYFALL could get as many as four Oscar nominations. All technical awards, but he also lists Bardem as a serious threat for the best supporting actor category. http://www.hollywood...ctions-8-406092
Interesting breakdown of what's possible - and that 4 predicted nominations does not include best song.
So if Scott Feinberg is correct, we could be looking at 5 nominations or even as many as 6 or 7 with Bardem and other possibilities.
Wouldn't that be incredible?

It'd be a fine way to crown 'Skyfall' after it's juggernaut run, and a massive pat on the back for the cast and crew involved in making it so big, and also for the fans of 50 years worth of films waiting for the day the Academy acknowledge Bond once more as a significant film, not just escapism in this day and age.

Thank goodness for that. "Skyfall" has been overrated so much by the press that it's been absolutely staggering. I almost get the impression that the press is saying that it's going to be nominated simply because Adele sang it. It really shouldn't even be eligible since a good chunk of its tune is "The James Bond Theme", making it considerably less original than other songs that are sure to be up for the award. But I guess its inclusion in the list of eligible songs signals that its a sure thing for a nomination, which is a shame since there have been Bond themes over the past couple of decades that are far more deserving but weren't even given a second thought to.

Context is important when quoting: it didn't include best song because that wasn't one of the categories listed on that particular website, I assume Shrublands was referring to that, hence the reference to 5 likely nominations.
The Academy has never been consistent when it comes to whether a not a song is eligible for nomination: if they like a song/ singer it will be nominated.
By the looks of things Skyfall seems eligible for the award and will likely get nominated, although it is not a sure thing yet, but what themes from the past few decades are you thinking of that should have got nominated?
If we look back at the last two decaces, the Craig and Brosnan era's, the only other song that I feel really deserved a nomination is "You Know My Name" (which derives almost as much from the Bond theme as Skyfall, and got through the first round selections for the Oscars, even if it didn't get nominated.)
