SKYFALL, DVD,

Enjoyed the home viewing immensely, except the wife still will not let me fire up a three-gold-bander in the house.  Alas.

The Vespers belayed my anxiety.

Once again, this movie exudes 007 classic style.  The new (reboot) series is open to ventures untold.

So glad to see it in my lifetime.

Full circle.

i have the dvd-blu ray combo and i noticed the dvd freezed momentarily right after the train station explosion. anyone else have that happen with the DVD version?

I haven't watched the DVD, but a slight pause makes me think it's where the layer switch in the disc happens to be...

The symptoms Definately sound like a layer change issue and about the expected time in the movie for one.

I don't believe blu ray's have to deal with layer changes. At least there was no "slight pause" the both times I watched my blu ray of the film.

I haven't noticed any layer switch issue on the Blu-ray, but we're referring to the DVD included with the Blu-ray combo pack.

I would imagine that very poorly manufactured Blu-ray players might have issues with layer switches on various dual-layer Blu-ray discs... but it seems that the majority of players wouldn't ever encounter such an issue.

I tell you one thing I never noticed until watching the Blu-Ray - during the pre-title sequence and the enquiry hearing, the sound of Bond's Walther sounds bloody fantastic. Sharp, loud and brutal gunshots.

Hubby and I watched our Blu-ray Saturday night and had another wonderful time with Skyfall. The nice thing was that we add the English subtitles, and so we could fully understand dialogue that was never quite clear in the cinema. Also, hubby had no idea that the train-crashing stunt was real, not CGI. So when we watched the "making of" documentary, he was suitably impressed and laughing at the absurdity of it all. Now we really wish we'd seen it in IMAX!

I haven't bought Skyfall on DVD yet. I do plan to, but I want to wait in the hope that they'll release another version of the DVD- a two disc special edition like CR perhaps- with more features and stuff on it.

Am I delusional? Does anyone think that they'll actually release such an edition in the next few months or shall I just cut my losses and buy the one that's out now?

I wouldn't imagine there'll be another release quite yet but I do suspect one at some point in the future, maybe even in the run up to Xmas. I have no idea what the initial sales figures are but (based on it's success at the box-office) confidently expect it will be one of the big sellers of the year.

I do wonder what a second release might contain to tempt us to buy it all over again though. Could we possibly get an extended cut promoted by a limited re-release in cinemas? As Sony's biggest ever release I'm sure they'll be looking to capitalise on it's success for some considerable time to come.

I'd buy the standard DVD now.

But I'm a bit of a mug, so if they brought out a new version I'd buy that too and put my old one upstairs for back-up!

I don't expect an extended cut of any Bond movie ever.

I really don't expect an updated release for a year or two. I'd suggest picking up a DVD to tide you over for now.

I wouldn't be surprised if we heard something about a new edition in the next 6 months to a year.  Given that the only thing that EON has seemed to enjoy more than making Skyfall has been the unending promotion of the film, I'd imagine they'll want to try to squeeze out another DVD/Blu-ray purchase from the consumers before we see the theatrical release of Bond 24.

I still want a QoS special edition with the Marc Forster commentary and alternate ending.

I'd very much like that as well.

At this point, it's never going to happen, but I'd still very much like to have a Quantum of Solace special edition in my collection.

Thanks for the thoughts my fellow veteran CBn'ers! Looks like the general consensus is that i should grab a copy of Skyfall on my way home from work today.

I am rather desperate to see it again, and the fact that they still haven't released an extended QOS edition makes me think they never will!

Grab a copy and just enjoy it PPK! :D

Maybe the backlash to 'Quantum Of Solace' prompted them not to waste money bringing out another edition and risk it not selling too well. It worked with the might of 'Casino Royale' however, so maybe they will count on the positive reaction to 'Skyfall' for people to invest in a future copy with even more goodies if they see it right? Time will tell.

Well I grabbed a copy today on DVD. Bought the bare bones edition as I wasn't going to pay an extra $4.00 for the small featurettes that are 2-4 minutes long.

I thought there was only one version of the standalone 'Skyfall' DVD... and it has a few short featurettes on it.  The Blu-ray combo pack has a DVD that's only the movie (it also has the digital copy on it), so it seems the good special features are only on Blu-ray anyway.

I've posted this before, I guess Walmart has three editions. The Blu-Ray Combo Pack: http://www.walmart.c...screen/22910589 , the DVD: http://www.walmart.c...creen/22910591, and the Bare Bones DVD which features this cover art:http://www.posterdun...aniel-Craig.jpg. It might have been a Walmart only thing, but I'm fine with no special features. I'd rather have no bonus features than have 4-6 two-minute featurettes.

Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy Combo cost my $19.99 total from Amazon.com. Won't be another release for at least another year I'm sure. Maybe closer to Bond 24 release.

Skyfall DVD review

Picture/Quality - Deakins magic really shines as I watch this on my HD setup in my home. The film is very crisp and beautiful much like CR, whereas QOS felt a bit dry and lacked in the picture department a bit, although it was still nice, it's nowhere on the level of SF and CR. 5/5 for Picture/Quality

Sound - The sound is exquisetly perfect. Newman's score sounds amazing and the sound effects are pitch perfect in my HD Setup. The only thing I noticed was that the title song during the PTS felt a bit low in terms of audio. 5/5 for Sound

Extras - Since I bought the Bare Bones Edition, there are no extras at all except for trailers. 0/5 for Extras, but It doesn't really matter to me that much. I have the film, that's what matters.

Overall DVD experience: 5/5. It truly looked and sounded amazing on my HD setup, and I have to say the Sound really was the strong point in this, especially the Skyfall Lodge Shootout scenes! Very good overall.

It's good to know that the DVD still looks good on an HD screen, thanks Ace! I love that title menu too, with the helicopter and the DB5.

I love My HD Setup, best and only way I watch films now. The picture and sound is phenomenal, and Skyfall is easily the Best DVD in terms of both. I really loved the title menu with footage from the film with Newman's score overlaying it, classic.

Indeed, I hate it when you're treated to a static image as a DVD menu. Having footage with roaring music is always better!
