The third one was definately the best but there was so much damage done with the first two that it was still hard to stomach.Still haven't seen that third prequel.

I do like the second one and as too many others I was disappointed by the first one.
On the other hand, my nephews adore the prequels. They really turned them into fans. They also ate up the "Clone Wars"-series. Maybe George Lucas was much more clever than people give him credit for: to achieve an ongoing fascination for STAR WARS he aimed the prequels not at the adults who had seen the original trilogy as kids but at young kids coming of age. He knew the adults would watch the prequels either way, even if they did not like them.
And I would be surprised if Lucas had not toyed with the idea of selling STAR WARS to Disney somewhere along the line when he conceived the prequels.
So, while I hold lots of hope for the next trilogy I do believe that Disney will still want to go for the kids. But maybe without alienating the adults this time. Disney loves those four-quadrant movies. It´s what made Disney what it is.

I have to say I'm only 27 so wasn't there the first time, but enjoyed the build up for the prequels greatly, and think I will for the next films. Lucas has been blamed for a lot, but behind the choices he has made so much money it's ridiculous but brought whole new generations to carry Star Wars on into the future.
And, let's not forget, ignoring 'John Carter', they have given us films such as Tron, Pirates Of The Caribbean and The Avengers so they can do it right when they have the right team.

Half the existing movies are already bad and the saga is currently upset. I don't think the franchise has anything to lose.
I guess that is a matter of opinion, I didn't think the three movies before were that bad..

At the very least, we can look forward to more RiffTrax and Mr Plinkett reviews.
That´s at least 4.5 billions worth.

I agree: the third one was the best of those prequels.
I like the second one the best - AOTC.
I just recently watched both THE PHANTOM MENACE and A NEW HOPE. I used to rank the 1977 movie above the 1999 movie. But after watching both of them, my ranking of the two movies have reversed.

Both of those statements sadden and offend me to dramatic degrees.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/59411"STAR WARS EPISODE VII - Wild Fan Speculation, Or A Distinct Possibility?"
"Brad Bird and fan-favorite film writer Damon Lindelof are teaming up for a new project at Disney. Bird, coming off of his first live-action with Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, is set to direct the mysterious large scale sci-fi project 1952. Whether that's just a codename or an actual year related to the story, we're not yet sure, but the project "has multi-platform aspirations" meaning Disney wants it for theme parks, retail stores and theaters. It'll no doubt be a "big tentpole" movie, and with these two storytellers leading the way, it is definitely something to watch for."

Same here. To even mention A NEW HOPE in the same sentence with that other film is a disappointment.

Althought that will make Harrison 73/74 in 'Episode VII' - could he still pull of an aging Han? I reckon so if he has a strong family around him to take the mantle, like Jacen, Jaina and Anakin Solo (if they introduce the Solo children of course to move the new story forward) and he can still be a tough ol' bastard. Clint Eastwood does it, so I reckon Ford could in Han Solo.

You are very much in the minority about the prequel trilogy.Cannot believe people are so excited about this news, especially after the prequel trilogy (which I actually enjoyed).
I'm extremely skeptical.

So... you're worried that it just won't live up to the high expectations set by the prequels?
After the prequels, I'm ready for anything. It could be a three-hour sequence of cartoon gorillas and it wouldn't be as annoying as The Phantom Menace. Sure they'll be cheesy and full of pandering nostalgia, but I fully expect these films to be more competently directed, better written, and less annoying than George's solo efforts. Remember, he isn't going to direct these things, so no soap opera blocking and shot-reverse-shot. With a real director at the helm, these films might wind up being visually interesting. And they'll be written from the ground up by professional screenwriters. It could be more like the second two films of the original trilogy, where a lot of solid professionals were brought in by the studio.

Wow. Talk about overreaction. And now I'm beginning to feel that the opinion of A NEW HOPE is overrated.

I, in contrast, think that the opinion of A NEW HOPE is underrated, but that the movie itself is overrated

A NEW HOPE - you mean STAR WARS, don't you?
Indeed! I'll never call it that, it's just 'Star Wars'.
My six year old son calls it 'A New Hope', I guess he'll never know any different.

I just find it odd how everybody hated the prequels, but yet cannot wait for more Star Wars films.
I am skeptical now, but I'm sure when the first screen shot of a prop or a costume is posted online, I'll be as giddy as a kid again! I remember back in the days
of dial up, when Episode II came out, waiting for about twenty minutes, for a teaser trailer to load on my (dying) computer.

I hated the prequels but am excited by the sequels because Lucas isn't involved.
