Indeed. I'm convinced it's true, but I'm still keen to see the official press release on this in the hope that it will confirm a tentative release date for BOND 24.

I wonder what we will get first Bond24 or The Girl Who Played With Fire.

EDIT

Now that I think about it, it will probably be TGWPWF in early 2014 and if were lucky and EON doesn't disappoint me Bond24 at the end of 2014.

But if DC films both the sequels to TGWTDTT back to back that could mean a early 2015 release for Bond24 right?....

How do they do 24 and 25 before Craig is 50 and still have enough time for him to do The Girl series?

Three years between Skyfall and the start of fliming.
Retain Mendes and you'll retain all the people he's worked with on Skyfall.
And like LoTR and Hobbit film them back to back.
Release them a year and a half apart.
Have them tie together like CR and QoS, and have them finish off the Quantum storyline.

"The Girl..." series is not a done deal by far. It could all just implode within the next couple of months. Zaillian is reportedly working on the script for the second film - but Fincher has not signed on.

Even if they get another director (which would be a problem in itself) - the question is whether this subject matter is still interesting enough for the mass audience. Lisbeth Salander as a character has been the big draw for the first film. And obviously, she was not a big enough draw.

I have found new interest in the film. But I don´t think that two more movies with these characters are necessary.

I agree. While I enjoyed the first book, as it was a bit all over the place I thought it would make a better film. Fincher and Zaillian did a great job focusing it into one. And Craig is worth watching in anything. The second book I plodded through about 5 months ago, and have found no interest in finishing the third. I suppose If Fincher directs and / or Craig stars I'll be there. But I've no idea why the series became an international bestseller.

I agree that the third novel in 'The Girl..' trilogy really dropped for me, full of names and back and forth games with no real interesting developments and I'm still slogging through it. 'TGWTDT' was far better as a stand alone story, but if Craig signs up for both sequels I will be happy to see him back finishing off the trilogy.

Oh, ok, back to topic...

BLOODY BRILLIANT NEWS!! Finally! A new Bond we get the chance to develop and grow with in the role rather than have them pulled right from under our noses!

Great, great stuff!

I'm baffled. I read all three books in ten days whilst on holiday in Mexico. Just couldn't put them down. Each to their own i guess. I hope Craig returns for TGWPWF and TGWKTHN, if they get made.

It's great that DC has committed to the Bond series, i guess that means he enjoys being Bond? Who wouldn't...

MI6 is saying Deadline got the news from them, according to a Tweet from HMSS Weblog. If true, then we're back to wondering about MI6's source. And yet another example of one site taking news from another site and saying it's "confirmed. "

True, but Empire ran the same story, about DC being around for 2 more films, quoting Deadline as their source and saying it's been officially confirmed. I'm pretty sure it's a solid source.

I wish that both Craig and Dench will leave the series after Skyfall. They should take a three year break and come back in 2015 with a new actor and a whole new direction.

You're entitled to your opinion Mr Wint, but I don't think that many would agree with it as far as DC is concerned. As for JD, I think you'll pleasantly surprised - this is likely to be her last.

Nice news and everything, but nothing's actually certain. They said much the same after what would turn out to be Pierce's final Bond film.

I reckon Dame Judi was at her best in Pierce Brosnan's era - she worked with his style of Bond and, to give her a due, she pulled it off somewhat with Craig for 'Casino Royale'. However, for this harder style of 007, I think we need a male M back in Bond's life, rather than someone who was turning into a mother figure ("She likes to think so!"), and give 007 a bit more down-the-line/no-nonsense approach like Bernard Lee did for Connery and Moore.

Dench is a great M, but I think 'Skyfall' will be her last, I just feel her character arc is running out of steam and could make way for a new M for Craig's established James Bond.

I disagree. I feel Dench was at her worst during the Brosnan era. Mainly due to awful awful writing. She was brilliant in GoldenEye, but, just like Brosnan, her characterisation changed with every Bond film.

GoldenEye - Hard Faced Bitch.
Tomorrow Never Dies - Funny little woman, who loves Bond.
The World Is Not Enough - Damsel in distress, who is a soppy motherly figure (Would've been fine with competent writers.)
Die Another Day - Hard faced bitch again, but with growing trust in Bond.

With Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, I think she's much much better written, and at the same time, given a chance to actually show her acting ability.

I do too, but not to the same extent.

I think the reason M; Judi Dench works so much better in the Craig films is because they're playing her up as more of a motherly figure to Bond. In the Brosnan films they were trying to write M as a no-nonsense boss in the Bernard Lee style.

I thought M was fine in GE but then in TND they play in the fact that she is a woman and doesn't have the balls for the job but I never even considered it an issue. Who cares if its a man or woman as long as they don't play the personal angle on every mission.

Oh you guys....!

As Brozza said... "Point taken."

I do like the chemistry between Dench and Craig, I think it was just the constant battle about if 007 can be trusted or not that I was a little niffed at, I wanted M to work with Bond more rather than work out stopping him, and if he can be trusted at all, which seemed to be sorted in the finale of 'QOS'.

I just hope it doesn't sneak into 'Skyfall' and she has issues again. I am looking forward to seeing her back though, it's a face of familiarity and comfort with Dench in the Bond films.

Deadline is the most well connected and most important news source in all of Hollywood. Niki Fink probably picked up the phone and called Babs personally. Now, they might have been tipped by the MI6 story (or by the same mystery source) and could have given them a nod. But, come on, MI6 is relentless in ripping off news from others and never credits so...screw 'em.

As to the news itself. Cool. :)

Word of Craig signing for 24 and 25 goes along nicely with June's news that writing deals are set up for 24 and 25. Things are sounding good.

With Dench's M its weird because its a different character between the Brosnan era and Craig era. Also, the fact that she wasn't as good during Brosnan's films definitely is the fault of the writers and not Dench. She did the best with she had to work with, which was a character that was all over the place as you all have stated above. She is consistent between CR and QoS (and more than likely SF too) and is portrayed as a main character and not a throw away one.

I'm with you. We'll have had time to grow accustomed to him, to his style. And he'll have had time to make the character his. Brilliant news!
I just hope, now that everything seems smoothly on track, that they'll abandon the "can I trust you?" plots we've had since DAD and deliver an old-school bondian Bond.

Exactly.

And this news first appeared in the edition of Esquire with Craig on the cover anyway – probably MI6's source was reading it there.

I think he could act as James Bond until he is 50 or even 53.

Actually he is 44, he could do Bond 24, 25, 26 and 27.

Maybe Craig will know his own "Diamonds Are Forever" or "Die Another Day", I mean about a last movie with humor and expensive gadgets, even with a science-fiction aspect....

I would tolerate that as long as Craig doesn't get his own A View To A Kill. I want the best movies possible but just don't take four years between them.

It is a possibility I guess, Craig finishing his tenure in the age of 54 with 8 films under his belt... Wouldn't mind that at all. If one looks at Craigs face one sees that he has ageless features.
