I hope Kevin Costner does not get his hands on this. Every project he touches is way over budget & is 3 hours long!
Branagh is directing. I doubt he's going to let Costner take control from him.

I remember reading Reb Rabbit which had a really interesting plot and was set in the Patriot Games era of Jack Ryan's life. A quarter of the way into it I gave up. Clancy is known for writing detailed books but this book goes into so much detail that has nothing to do with the plot that you start to forget what the plot's about. By the way, Ryan remarks in one scene that James Bond was a "failed British novel." Casino Royale sold out the first week it was published. True it failed in U.S. but in the UK it was a bestseller. He concentrates more on the details of life of Ryan in London, the life of a US diplomat in Moscow, and and Soviet defector in Moscow. And then there things which make absolutely no sense. The Soviet defector sees the US diplomat on the subway and just by looking at him he deduces that he's an American and slips him a note. He has the best luck in the world that the man was an American and not KGB.
I always enjoyed the adaptations of Clancy's work more than Clancy's work itself. I really like the Rainbow Six games (which are a lot better than the book). The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, and Clear & Present Danger are great films. I know Clancy hated Patriot Games, maybe because they cut out a lot of unless crap and Ryan is actually likable! =)

Ah okay. From the previous page I thought potential roles were being discussed. It has already filmed. Chris Pine IS playing Ryan. Costner IS in the film. The film shows Jack Ryan at the beginning of his career. These aren't rumored parts, it's already done.

I for one alreay head that Chris Pine might or will be playing Jack Ryan back in 2009 or 2010. It just that after that nothing until when I first saw this news and posted it.

I actually think this film could be decent. Chris Pine has really solidified himself as an action hero especially because of Star Trek. I think this movie has serious potential.
Chris Pine sure has really solidified himself as an action hero especially because of Star Trek. IF NOT for that, he might just be like his father Robert Pine, who is not that big in Hollywood. His dad is only well known for his role in CHiPs as Sgt. Getraer. Oher then that people don't even know who he is, when he has a small role in a movie or guest spot on a TV show. All they can say is "It that guy that played the Sgt on CHiPs."
I don't know about the film, I like Clancy's understanding of the world of spies, Special Ops, presidential side of intelligence warfare and secret war and military science. How he use them in his novels that is NOT boring like certain nonfiction books on the subject, where he get all his infromation that is NOT against the law.

If they want to go towards an action epic they should make Rainbow Six instead/as well, Ford could still play Ryan as he would be the president by then.
Harrison Ford has played both Jack Ryan AND The President. Anyone seen him in COWBOYS & ALIENS?? (Insert huge sponaneous shout out to Daniel Craig right here.) He is so old & so tired looking. He should pack it in quietly & fade away. I suspect that by now, an action sequence for him involves having a "movement". Even Clint Eastwood knows what it means to act his age.

I don't expect a realistic procedual day in a life of a intelligence analyst but don't want some super spy saga.

First: Ford (in Cowboys & Aliens) was not old and tired looking.
And even if he were - why should a human being pack up and fade away just because one can see the years on his body?
I have a newsflash for you, my friend. Everybody ages. It´s perfectly normal. It does not make anybody unworthy. And Ford still is extremely fit and tough. He would send you to pack and fade away, I´m sure.

I hope they keep some aspect of realism and techcial implementation like they did with the Ford movies. Thriller more then action, unless things have changed and the intelligence of the viewship has changed.

That how I would like it, and anyway close to real world type spy movies are always a mix of drama and suspene, and only when needed then some action like joint CIA and Special Forces work. When it calls for CIA Operation Officers in Special Activity and NOT the regular CIA Operation Officers. More the way of being like the TV show West Wing and the BBC miniseries and movie version of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Honestly, I'm excited because Chris Pine is really really hot.
Plus Kiera Knightly, I mean c'mon they are both attractive. Definitely seeing this movie.

Kevin Costner has been doing really well lately.
And yes, Keira is hot.

Sorry if this is old news but its new to me.

Deadline told you two weeks ago that Paramount was courting Kevin Costner to play a key role opposite Chris Pine in the Kenneth Branagh-directed Jack Ryan film. I’m told that Costner has now accepted and they are working out a deal that will give him the chance to become a linchpin in not only the Jack Ryan film with Chris Pine, but also the spinoff franchise Without Remorse, for which the studio is now courting The Dark Knight Rises villain Tom Hardy, with Christopher McQuarrie rewriting to direct. I wonder why still no advence trailer or official full trailer out. Some movies that come out mid or late fall already have theirs out already.

It seems to have been retitled into JACK RYAN: Shadow One, according to imdb.com .
Weird.
Looking forward to it, though, since I love Branagh and enjoyed Chris Pine in his films so far.

Still no trailer for this one? Surprising.

They probably wanted to attach this one to a high profile blockbuster. And the summer did not offer too many of them that were really blockbusters.
What´s the next big Paramount release?

There's not much else in the way of potential blockbusters coming from Paramount before Jack Ryan. The only three that seem to pop up on any of the release date lists are The Wolf of Wall Street (Nov. 15), Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (Oct. 25), and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (Dec. 20).
They could possibly attach a trailer to next week's double-feature of Star Trek Into Darkness and World War Z, but I don't know how widespread those double-features are going to be, so that might not be the best marketing strategy.

"James Bond" would work great as a movie title.
After, say, a decade-long absense with no 007 movies.
I reckon when Daniel Craig quits, EON will reboot the franchise again and the title of the new film will indeed be James Bond. I could live with it if the film was good.
