I wonder why there was never a EON productions logo at the start of the films

Perhaps they never deemed it necessary being that they get a lone credit on screen anyways. It's always been "Albert R. Broccoli & Harry Saltzman presents" (or the other variants later on) appearing by itself, followed by the actor's name appearing by itself.

That actually gave me an idea. What if they did a throwback to Dr. No and OHMSS by having the white dots stop in the middle of the screen and the "Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions Presents" line pop up? I wouldn't be opposed to that. If we're talking a classic gun barrel you can't get much more classic than the very first one.

Very nice. I could definitely see them doing something like that with the gunbarrel, using something that would be a cross between the music from the Dr. No gunbarrel and the electronic music that was used in the SkyFall trailer towards the end of the trailer.

Not bad, but it should still be 'Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions presents' among the white dots, as Barbara and Michael get their co-production credit towards the end of the titles.

And you can't jump directly from the gun barrel to the title sequence - who are you, Irvin Kershner?

It's what they did in Dr. No. Seriously though, that title sequence was a separate idea I had which I just tagged on, I wouldn't want to loose the PTS.

I think that'd work quite well. It'd be a nice throwback. I agree that it should still read "Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions" but other than that, that's the right idea. Instead of the "&" being in the white dot that stops, "EON" could be there and the text centered accordingly.

Care to give it a try, JC? ;)

...Or the white dot could be the O in EON?

Just a thought.

I saw a promotional poster that actually depicts Daniel Craig INSIDE the gun barrel. Now THAT'S intriguing.

Sommat like that, aye - although I doubt they'd ever use the 'telemetry' cue again.

(I'd like to be wrong about that, though...)

I don't understand your enthusiasm for this DNish crediting at the beginning, especially the music. I would be very disappointed if the gunbarrel wouldn't start with a blast, climax Bond theme.

Call me weird, but I had a dream that I went to see Skyfall the other night and it didn't have the gun-barrel motif at the start and I was really disappointed. Then again, it was only a dream. Don't remember too much about the film. Knowing my dreams it probably wasn't too entertaining!

@ #11: Me, too.

Just going back to the first one for nostalgic reasons is not the way to go, IMO.

Give us something new that nods its head to the established ones.

I wasn't talking the music, JC just happened to use it for the purpose of the video. I'd still want it to start with a bang in terms of the Bond theme. I just thought it would be a nice nod to have the writing in the dots. Don't forget, OHMSS did it too and it worked just fine.

It's not a big deal to me one way or another, but if they are going to do it, they should do a full TLD-esque John Barry Gunbarrel with full trumpets blaring.

I was thinking the other day that in similar ways we had alternate music for the 'Dr.No' gunbarrel, and the tone-setting chilling music in 'Licence To Kill'.... wouldn't it be great if we had the gunbarrel, but setting the sinister tone for this film, we had the 2 hard beats used in the latter half of the 'Skyfall' teaser as the gunbarrel comes across the screen, with it fading into the muted electronic Bond theme when he shoots the gun?

That'd be brilliant and very exciting...!

Leave him alone. If you hadn't been so quick to criticize, you'd notice you forgot a period at the end of your sentence, so what was that you said about writing properly? Besides, 80% of his spelling was correct (including a period at the end of his sentence), and he was offering his opinion, whereas you weren't. All you did was bark at him and made him feel like crap. Yes, I think spelling matters, but I could read that easily. Grow up.

I think it was more that S.P.E.C.T.R.E wrote in a different colour and "txt speak" in each post he made, it did get a little annoying. Examples here.

I would love to hear something like the LTK music, as it sets the tone for the movie and makes it stand apart from some of the others. But the gunbarrel must be at the start, please!

Greetings from an Italian newbie!

I've been lurking around the forum for a while and I thought it was time to post something.

One of the oldest (and most famous) movie magazine here in Italy just hit the newstands with the August issue, with a few pages about Skyfall.
The journalist claims he had the chance to be at Pinewood Studios a few months ago and he was there during the shooting of a scene. He also had the chance to interview cast and crew.

He asked about the gunbarrel scene and he got an answer. I'll put it under a spoiler tag, in case someone doesn't want to be spoiled:

Spoiler
.

It's been a while since I last bought this magazine. A few years ago it was the best around here. Let's hope it's still reliable.

Of all the things to care about in Bond, I think the gunbarrel is... well, it barely even registers for me.

To answer your question... No. Definitely not. You are NOT the only person to care about the gunbarrel in one way or another. You only need to poke around the archives to see threads upon threads discussing (analyzing!) the topic.

The more interesting question might be, am I the only person who doesn't give a flying flipperoo what they do with it or where they stick it or how much blood of some particular viscosity pours forth from it?

I may be.

(So long as it's there. Total absence I think I might notice.)

I'm with JC (and the others who have echoed him) on this. I don't really care about the gunbarrel. I will say it's cool to see each of the actors get a crack at it, but other than that the only thing that interests me about them is how varied the gunbarrel music has been.

Besides, all purists know the only TRUE gunbarrel would be done by a stuntman, and from such a distance as to not be able to tell who the hell it is. Also, a hat.
