The most likely answer is probably a leak at clerk-level somewhere inside either Sony or the branch responsible for issuing these Internet addresses, no?
That is correct.

Sony, used a brand protection company to register Skyfall related domains in the August - nobody noticed. (i.e. Skyfall-movie.com etc)
Then, a few weeks before the press conference, early October, the same company started registering Skyfall connected to 007 and James Bond too. (i.e. Skyfall-007.com) - The cat was out of the bag.

Yeah - but as far as looking it up in Whois, that would still require some knowledge as to what name and variation thereof to look for.
My personal knowledge is Whois, but this doesn't allow one to do a Google-type search for anything remotely connected to 007 or James Bond.
So, my questions still stands. How was the cat let out of the bag? Was it searchable, or was there some clerk inside Sony who sad, 'Here's the title folks'?

From what I could figure out, it's possible for those with paid accounts on sites like Whois to reverse search by the company responsible for the registration. In this, MarkMonitor, on behalf of Sony.

Chris Corbould appears to have confirmed on Twitter that he's returning on special effects.

He's is definitely back and has been working on the film for sometime now. Here he is talking back in March about having started working with Mendes on Bond 24.
Chris Corbould, veteran special effects supervisor on the Bond films, and many other blockbusters, offered some insight into the development of the action scenes.
"It’s generally 6-8 months out that we start talking. I’ve been talking with Sam [Mendes, the director] about various concepts at the moment, but it’s very exciting times when you’re moulding the scripts and trying to come up with new challenging sequences that you haven’t necessarily seen before on screen.”
"It gets harder and harder, like the digger on the back of the train from ‘Skyfall’, or the train coming through the ceiling. They’re all part of a collaborative process where you all try to come up with something different with the stunt coordinators, second unit directors, Sam, the writer, Michael, Barbara, they all have ideas."
"We just pitch them in and see which is the best.”

Sorry if I'm back tracking here but wasn't SF's press conference on the first day of filming or was that the principle photography? Either way it seems it's coming soon for Bond 24. All aboard, the Octopussy Circus is leaving town!

Jumping in.
I've got a friend in Rome who revealed that permits have been filed for closing down the Coliseum and that some streets have been closed.
My apologies, but I've just jumped back into CBn. Sorry if my intel is late/dated.

Yup. I believe Craig turned up suitably stubbled in preparation for filming that afternoon.

Wow. Bond really does open doors, by closing other things. That's fantastic.

Look up! Look down!
Sorry to kick in the doors, but I'm back and active on CBn. About damn time.
Okay, as to Bond 24, aside from the casting news I've read here and about, Rome and Austria are featuring heavily. As to whether they are represented as they truly are is a mystery. Now, as I have personally heard, there is some talk of Malta. Just whispers mind you. Could be interesting. Much like back in the days of fan mags (those publications that were just that before the internet and suggested that FYEO would feature a car chase in Greece) back in 1980.
It's exciting times with production about to roll. Now....Who is the baddie? Craig's Bond needs a a villain he can truly hate and not just dispatch IMO.

But FYEO did feature a car chase in Greece, although it was set in Spain.
BTW, Good to see you, Mr Bryce. Things have been awfully dull round here. Bureaucrats running the place, things done by the book. Can't make a decision unless the computer gives you the go-ahead. Now you're on this, I hope we're going to have some gratuitous sex and violence..

Also AMC, the Admiral has been doing a fine job IMO. A few training ops and some doing dare amongst Matt O'S 004 and Joyce Carrington (009) and introducing Gala Brand (005) - Every "Recipe" can use a fresh ingredient - is how CBn's double-o's roll. The craziest corner of Her Majesty's Secret Servivce. No....REALLY.

BTW AMC - The above quote touched my heart. Thanks. Cheers!

Thanks for the info! Malta would make a lot of sense; also as a substitute for some places in Morocco (if Morocco itself were to stand in for, say, Afghanistan once more). I guess it all comes down to which country offers the bigger incentives/ tax breaks etc. for the production....

Splendid news. Looks like you have signed yourself up for reporting duties.
One of the better ongoing reports for Skyfall in my opinion came from the unlikely place of nature blog; a lady calling herself something like the Forest Wanderer, or some such (Help!) who had a wonderful selection of images and words for the Skyfall lodge.
The standard has been set.

It was Lucy Brown, the Foraging Photographer, who inadvertently came upon the construction of Skyfall Lodge and got herself into a bit of trouble by posting several photos and descriptions of what she'd seen. Her photos, whether of nature or of the Bond set, were lovely. I corresponded briefly with her, and she's a delightful person.

Thanks for that. Yes, she seemed wonderful. Superb photography and a lovely turn of phrase too.
