I'm not even sure what format was before VHS, some type of large square with a record insided it, right?

CEDs, you mean? They were released at more or less the same time as the VHS/Betamax and LaserDisc versions (1982).

Yes, thank you. The Cepacitance Electronic Disc wasn't widely available until it was pretty much outdated by VHS/Beatmax and LaserDisc. Wow, I never know the laser disc was so large, it looks like the size of a record.

Where are the details on the Bond 50 set already? Hopefully the news is very soon about what is included, specs and detailed info on extras...

According to this:
http://film.thedigit...-september.html
The 50 anniversary box set will only contain the original one disc release of Casino Royale and the same Quantum of Solace disc we already have. If right a major disappointment.

I don't understand this at all. I don't even see any new content listed for any individual movie. If this is true, that it's an absoloute disgrace.

Since it's the 50th anniversary it would be nice to make a bit more of an effort. The only new special features is the [censored]ty bonus disc that looks like a clip show, and they've even cut most of the extras on Casino and Quantum.

DISC TWENTY—Die Another Day (Over 8 hours of content)
DISC TWENTY ONE—Casino Royale (Over 1 hour of content)
Gee, dont spoil us or anything

they're boasting about 122 hours of features.... I bet that includes the commentary tracks. Of which there are 2 or 3 on each and each film is about 2 hours long.

Die Another Day has like, half an hour of deleted scenes. So does Quantum of Solace. I mean, I wouldn't mind if they actually had new special features. but they've just pretty much repackaged the DVD's and in CR and QOS' case, totally cut the features on the 2nd disc

What really annoys is when I saw Marc Forster give a lecture at the NFT in early 2009 he said he had done an audio commentary for QOS. Is this never to be used?

Christ if that is true why the hell have I pre-ordered this set and asked for a Blu-Ray player for my birthday? Nothing but Bond spured me on to convert to Blu-Ray, but seems I'll be better with my UE DVDs and 3-Disc 'CR'. Quite annoyed by that...

One big collective box-set, and it seems that 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum' are getting shafted, and that the 3-Disc 'CR' edition will be better, even though the cover and set-out will be totally different to the Collectors Boxset.

Is it too much to ask for all the features and lastest editions to be included so they can all sit as a set? And as Craig is our current Bond, for any new fans out there I'd have thought they'd give more features for his films to entice fans into his 'Bond world'.

I hope this changes...not happy at all.

Thanks for the link with specs. Wow, if this is true I am also very disappointed. I sold my CE Casino Royal blu ray as I believed it would be included in the Bond 50 set. In addition, I also believed the unreleased CE Quantum of Solace blu ray would be included.

No new extras on the older Bond films? Just a straight port over of the UE DVD extras?

I'm still excited about getting all of the Bond films in HD, but man this is pretty disappointing. Especially given the fact that it has been a very long wait.

Hopefully this is untrue and MGM and Fox will work to put out new extras for all films (trailers, tv spots, radio spots?, etc) ....

: (

What really annoys is when I saw Marc Forster give a lecture at the NFT in early 2009 he said he had done an audio commentary for QOS. Is this never to be used?

If the news hold, then yes. MGM and Fox will have another release. Maybe just of the CE of Quantum. Probably when they issue the films individually 6 months to a year after Bond 50 set?

I sold all of my Bond blu rays, so I'm committed to picking up the Bond 50 set.

I am disappointed that (if the link story news is true) MGM and Fox did not improve the extras for the older Bond films. Also that the CE's of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are not included.

Well if that's what £90 will buy us Bond fans for the 50th Anniversary Blu-Ray, in the words of Timothy Dalton (remember him, EON, he was in 2 of your films?)...

Looking forward to the deleted scenes from DAD, with commentary from Roger Spottiswood in particular!

No QOS commentary track from Forster. Disappointing!...

All a bit disappointing. Not sure I'll be getting this now.

Nice touch for them to include the SKYFALL videoblogs and featurettes, and leave a space in the collection to add the movie's disc when released, but that's scant consolation.

I'm glad as a Bond fan, I still have not order the box and waited for the spec on the special features. Now it like that, I'm going to wait and see how much is it going to be selling at Best Buy, Costco and Target the first two weeks, Black Friday and the holiday season. Myabe they'll come out with individual box sets near Black Friday or the holiday season.

One got to wonder why are they not coming out with the Quantum Of Solace Collector Edition that have been talked about for a long time. Maybe the'y'll come out with a Collector Edition of Quantum Of Solace, near the release date of Skyfall. Could it be those stuff do not exist at all? Like all in the trash.

If that wasn't bad enough, no deleted scenes for Licence to Kill and A View To A Kill, what gives.

Oh, and they've messed up with the Die Another Day special features and listed the Tomorrow Never Dies features.

Yes, i mentioned 4K a while back on this thread. I'd avoid this box set, since it will be eclipsed before long by 4k. That's NO loss from the theatrical version, so it'll really be worth the expense when it arrives.

ETA: The staring price is a huge £7K, but give it a year or 2 when the competition hots up and that'll drop dramatically, so having seen the paltry offerings in this set, there's really no reason not to wait for 4K.

Hopfully Pioneer will get back into the HDTV business by then and come out with something. And that price are not too much for a 55-60 inch, IF they do get back into the HD TV business, and Costco and Best Buy has them.

It's all the Bonds. In HD.

That's all the reason I need to get it. A perfect James Bond video archive which will last for decades.

I'm not too worried about the extras, or lack of them.

Disappointing, those special features.

But since I don´t own any Bond blu ray yet I will buy this set.

Since we might get a Bond film in 2014, I think I might wait till then when they release another Boxset with just enough extra features to call it better then the last.

It´s rather unlikely that they will release another boxset in 2014.

But the problem was there from the beginning: the UE DVDs already had fantastic extras. What else could there be left for the blu rays?

Yes, the DC audition tapes. But frankly, they will only be shown to the public once the next actor has been established in the role... so - 60th anniversary edition maybe?

And the Marc Forster commentary for QOS? Hah, maybe we are not supposed to listen to that. If it in fact has been recorded.

At least the boxset has left a slot for SKYFALL.

When SF comes to home video you think they'll sell the boxset with SF? It just seems like every time a film comes out they do a re-release of the films in a box set.

Anyway here is a cool site I just found of a few of the different releases.

...but me being a picky sod would then pray that all the 22 Blu-Ray film cover art follows at least some pattern/theme for the boxset, but then if they do, will that leave 'Skyfall' sticking out like a sore thumb?

If so, does this mean the Blu-Ray covers will be generic / poster covers that don't follow a 50th theme? Because like the UE DVD Collection that had 'CR' and 'QOS' sticking out like a sore-thumb, 'Skyfall' will look out of place otherwise in a decent looking set.

Here's hoping there's SOME plan to the layout...!

Well at least we now know why there is only a one disc Casino Royale. If there is space for Skyfall that will be one disc also. But will the disc design match?

Very disappointing.
No individual covers; no new content (except for a couple of new featurettes).
The most exciting special feature on the set is the space for skyfall.

I guarantee that the 'Skyfall' disc won't fit in with the look of the 50th Set, even though it's come out during the 50th year, so I think it will stick out like a sore thumb.

I like the idea of the packaging though, different...but a little dissapointed we don't get individual covers.

AHH...also, on that picture of the next box art and booklet...notice Dalton's hand has now moved to his pocket, not his groin?? ;)
