I would love to know which special features actually are new on these blu-rays...

Over 130 hours of special features apparently. Lets say 2 hours for the Documentary, which I'm sure will be released with this set. Have that feeling. Must be a hefty set. Not sure what that means per disc. The Roger Moore Commenteries will probably amount to 14 hours of that. If they've got a commentary from every Bond I will be so impressed!

So there is a bonus disc then. I was hoping for one bonus disc for the documentary. Unless, it's a 22 hour documentary split into 22 parts. Each hour on the appropriate Bond disc. Focusing on one aspect of the franchise. Like the 8 Part Potter documentary on the Ultimate Editions.

Hmm. The content on the bonus disc is just one hour? The documentary should be longer, shouldn´t it? On the other hand, and I have remarked that already on another thread, what can the documentary show what the separate documentaries on the DVDs did not already show? What can a new documentary on all 22 Bonds be but an edit of all that material? I don´t want that, I want a new approach - maybe a round table of all Bond actors together (although that probably will never happen).

Of course, I would also love Craig´s audition tape. Or for that matter: everybody´s Bond audition. But the chances for that... yeah.

I hope that we will be informed as to what the brand new bonus content actually will be very soon. I suspect that the blu-rays of the films will give us the bonus content on the Ultimate Editions? And that the transfers of the blu-rays will be the same as on the already available BDs?

Rather disappointed by the cack-handedness of all this.

Now if you have none of the Blu Rays so far, or want a nice, new matching set, £4-£5 a disc is a cracking deal.

However, if you are not a newby or an obsessive, you might not want all the Bond films on Blu Ray (shock! horror!) and might want to pick up the discs you want or don't have already.

Now wouldn't the all-encompassing, keep 'em all happy way to go have been to announce this set giving a rate of £4-£5 per disc while at the same time announcing individual discs at, say £7.50 each?

That way, BOND FANS have a choice.

I guess there's an outside chance DN-TB will be worth buying again because THEY'VE GOT A LOAD OF NEW EXTRAS but I can't see that happening; how often and how deep can you mine the EON archive for films made up to 50 years ago!!!!

But.... There's nothing to say that we won't get individual releases. Just because they've announced the boxset doesn't mean that's all they're doing. They will release them individually.

Maybe we were too excited to get the announcement so early in the year.

In the end it was only a rather general statement. Details will emerge in the next months, I guess.

And I absolutely agree with Mharkin: The Bond Blu-Rays will be available separately.

I actually love to get my hands on this complete blu-ray set. And that the current discs become redundant (if the other Bonds should not be available separately, which I doubt) is just a matter of bad timing (with MGM´s problems and so on).

I don't think i need to be forced to purchase in order to be a little hard done by here.

I think an alternative method of owning these films, maybe similar to the one i suggested above, would be welcomed by fans. And those, such as yourself, who prefer to keep paying for each upgrade are always free to do so.

In such a scheme certainly the new box set would be initially cheaper than a 'loyalty card', or 'license to Bond', but since formats will never stop being superseded, it would work out cheaper for the loyal fans in the long run.

But i guess these corps see us as $ signs rather than fans of theirs.

I think an alternative method of owning these films, maybe similar to the one i suggested above, would be welcomed by fans. And those, such as yourself, who prefer to keep paying for each upgrade are always free to do so.

In such a scheme certainly the new box set would be initially cheaper than a 'loyalty card', or 'license to Bond', but since formats will never stop being superseded, it would work out cheaper for the loyal fans in the long run.

But i guess these corps see us as $ signs rather than fans of theirs.

True. But this is all about making money by offering something the fans might want. It´s not about preserving the fan´s budget.

Over the years my first forray into Bond was subscribing to a magazine offer (like a book club) where you pay £14.99 a month and you got 2 James Bond videos in the post, and you got the first 3 films (DN, FRWL, GF) free! This was all the way to TWINE, and I bought DAD seperately.

Next came the nice little DVD collection in the 007 tin cover so, naturally, upgrade to see Bond in swish DVD!

Then came the Ultimate Editions with the Attache Case and I didn't think twice to pre-order this for what you got - new, cripser DVD footage, extra features, all nice new packaging and all from DN to DAD.

Now we see the Bond 50 Blu-Ray edition. I missed out the previous Blu-Rays as I thought they were great, but I've never invested in a Blu-Ray player and for what seemed like only picture and sound upgrade, I was happy to swallow my pride and let the fans enjoy the Blu-Ray, but I was smitten with the UE DVDs.

But seeing this Bond 50 celebration (which, let's not forget, this is what the Blu-Ray Bond 50 IS, a celebration of 007's 50th birthday), I am happy to say I will be investing in a Blu-Ray player and forking out a bargain price of £89.99 for the Blu-Rays, as I will come to expect even more crisper picture and audio for what comes to about £4.09 per disc for each film and umpteen hours of bonus material and probably even more artwork to be proud to own...then yes, I will be pre-ordering this treasure.

But for some reason, for Bond, I will never say I have felt ripped off or conned as technology and entertainment is simply moving with the times and fanbase. There are probably millions of new Bond fans thanks to Craig's new launch and they may only have 1 or 2 Bond DVDs, so this, if they have hooked on, is a brilliant chance for them to 'catch up' for a great price. Us Bond fans want this, of course, but don't deny it...we want it for cheaper as we feel we've earnt it over the years, but that's sadly not what can happen today, so we part ways with our money to own something that, I feel, is landmark and something to own and treasure, and be proud of!

I'll never frown upon any release, as stated before, it's only up to us to choose to buy them if we really want to, but think about the others out there for whom this could be the start of their Bond legacy as ours once with the old DVDs, or in my case, VHS.

I'd put to the EON apologists on this thread - how often can you thank 'em for making great films? when do you say enough is enough of my money? - spare a thought for those poor sods who can't afford another £80 for a box set and who want, say, just a couple of Blu Rays of their favourites.

Mind you, I guess that if EON won't spare a thought for 'em - despite young Matthew and SAF's inside belief that the films will eventually be released individually - I can't imagine other dedicated-beyond-the-cause Bond fans showing any sympathy.

Have faith David...as with the UE DVDs and the Attache Case promo which came first, the UE DVDs on their own soon followed after the big push.

I think the Bond 50 Blu-Ray will be just the same. Big push for the boxset, and then individual sales.

They did not do the transfers for the remaining films only to market them in the box set. Sooner or later, you will be able to get those for even cheaper prices - like I did, for the Original DVDs.
