Great cue from one of my favorite Thomas Newman scores. Spoiler warning on this one. It does reveal one of the revolutions from the end of Road to Perdition (my favorite Mendes film / Newman score). This clip also sports a very brief image of Craig. Not a very Bondian track, but does further reveal his range as a composer.

A great bit of film making that, Gassner’s Production Design, Hall’s cinematography, Newman’s music, all brought beautifully together by Mendes’ direction.
Replace one master of cinematography with another master and it really demonstrates the calibre of the people working on Skyfall…
you even get a glimpse of Dan.

I think David Arnold will be back, I sense Newman is only on because Mendes is directing and Arnold has the Olympics to do.

Which begs the question - if Newman is scoring SKYFALL, did the right man get the job, or were EON forced to take their second pick?

I think that's definitely what happened.

Great piece of music, I always imagine a scene like this in my head (Naturally as a filmmaker) just simple follow shots, accompanied by epic music. A beautiful piece of cinematographic work!

Good news. It will be great to hear what a different composer brings to the new film.

Yes, and put this in spoilers perhaps? And fix the main CBn page's question mark.

Said Arnold of the news: “I’m a huge fan of Thomas Newman so I am as excited as anyone to see where Sam Mendes and his team take James Bond on his 50th anniversary.”

which means

"Oh thank god for that, I ran out of ideas about 12 years ago."

Brilliant, brilliant news! Even though I knew it was coming. Just nice to see it confirmed. :D

If you listen carefully, you can just hear the sounds of MI6 members patting themselves on the back for making this happen. Yes, some of them actually think they made this happen.

How is it a spoiler to know who's scoring the film? Every piece of information about a production is not a spoiler.

Anyways...I saw via David Arnold's Twitter page that it really was Sam Mendes' call to bring Thomas Newman on board.. Arnold didn't turn down the job because he was busy with the Olympics. However, David was totally cool with Sam Mendes choosing Newman and should he get the call for Bond 24 or another one in the future, he'll be happy to jump on board again.

Very good news. I've been looking forward to a new sound for the franchise for quite a while now. It's good to see EON continuing to assemble great talent for this Bond film.

Here's a small bit over at Ain't it Cool where Newman talks about scoring an action film.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Though, if Newman does his AMERICAN BEAUTY-type score, Arnold will start looking good again.
However, it is not too surprising a choice considering how pompous Arnold has been over the past two years, especially when you chat with him and he states that he 'has the scriprt to the new film and I'm already doing some of the themes for it" (and that was two years ago). Even the Producers did not have that!
Moreover, if you knew the whole history of it all, I think we all knew that Sam would not do it without Newman from day one.
That said, I wish him the all the best and hope for a great score worthy of his predecessors.

Uh, what? The producers have to approve the script before it can be sent to Arnold - because if they don't approve it, the script gets changed, and if the script gets changed, Arnold's score (which is written for that script) will be useless. So while Babs and MGW might not have the script at hand on a day-to-day basis (though I bet they do), they at least know its contents before Arnold does.

... yes, exactly. And now I will have to look to mi6 now whether it "understands" that something happens?

I am a big fan of David Arnold and he has served us well but it's time for a change. Bring it on!

No, I mean that some of their forum members seem to think that EON replaced David Arnold because those forum members wanted somebody other than Arnold scoring the film. MI6 will no doubt take the credit for breaking the news that Newman will score the film, but that's a separate issue (and getting one story right doesn't mean they're always right - they are, after all, the site that claimed BOND 23 would feature Rachel Weisz as the head of Quantum and that the story would revolve around genetically-altered crops). Certain members of their forums actually believe that EON are listening to them and to them alone because they have been calling for David Arnold to be replaced as composer, as if MGW and Babs don't have anything better to do than to follow fan forums all day long (and if they did, they'd probably come here first).

True.

I only ate half my hat anyway since the Newman thing was not really surprising at all and could have been predicted by anyone.

Sorry, delfloria, but being right once doesn't make you right every single time. The forum members with a reputation for being in the know have that reputation because they are consistently accurate. Not just the one time.

Well I've never heard a score by Thomas Newman before, but I hadn't heard anything from David Arnold either back when I was getting into Bond in 1997, but it sure blew me away in 'Tomorrow Never Dies'.

Here's to the new exciting and bold take Newman will take, and as long as we get some Bond-ish music/theme incorporations, I'll be a happ bunny!
