Yeah I believe Mendes even said during the press event that a "large portion of the film" would be shot in London, adding Turkey, China, and Scotland afterwards. A thought I had was that while Bond will no doubt be present for some scenes in London (especially at the start of the film), I assume there will be a lot of intercutting between Bond on location elsewhere and M's status back home. Would explain why they were able to shoot so much of London without Daniel around. If M plays as significant a role as we've (sort of) been lead to believe, then this isn't a long shot.

They filmed for about one week without Daniel, that's not really very much.

Good point. Feels like it's been longer.

I suppose with the Christmas/New Year break it seems longer. I think it’s obvious now that London is a major location in Skyfall. A lot of the plot and action will unfold there.

Didn´t they only film without Daniel because of his PR commitments to DRAGON TATTOO?

It seems as if a week that didn’t require him was scheduled for straight after the Christmas break to allow for this, yes.

Dragon Tattoo being released in the middle of the holidays also helped – This gave Craig over 3 weeks off to promote the film.

I really do hope that DD M isn't the star of the movie. I could possibly live with it if it led to her (bloody) demise, but only just.

It really does sounds like I hate poor Dench. I don't really. I'm just tired of her and excess emminess in the films.

I'm with you, Skudor. People assume that because Dench is a fine actress it is impossible to overuse her, and impossible to use her in a way that compromises the enjoyability of the films. The big mistake was TWINE. Once the producers expanded M's role, they didn't dare reduce it to its original dimensions, because they had reason to suspect that Dench would lose interest and deprive them of her prestigious talent. We've come to realize that the "big M" phenomenon will not be reversed until Dench's character is permanently removed from the picture, and that's why we're impatient to see her go. Not out of any inherent hostility to her occupying the role, but because the role itself has expanded to the point that it gets in the way.

People who insist on retaining Dench operate under the assumption that Bond is desperately and continuously in need of "legitimization", and without Dench the series will automatically revert to a brainless, low-rent, laddish spectacle. Dench might have been essential in 1995, when the most recent film had been a dud, the new Bond actor was a lightweight TV star, and there were widespread suspicions that the franchise had lost all relevance. But today the films are profitable, critically respected (if not necessarily acclaimed), and the franchise is awash in talent. There is no doubt that Bond is strong. There's no need to cling to every scrap of prestige. They can afford to adopt an easy-come, easy-go approach.

I do recall reading somewhere, I think on CBN, that maybe a year after Quantum of Solace was released it was reported that Barbara Broccoli was planning on the next Bond film to do a lot of shooting in London..

Speculation was also rife that filming would take place in New York - because someone was seen eating in a restaurant or some such...

It seems that it's going to be a night shoot in the Charing Cross Hotel - which is sort of built on top of the station, for those not familiar with London.

I've been waiting years for this. The 'London' Bond film.

It's great having Bond jet-setting to all these other exotic locations but this, here, Bond, at home, is something i've wanted to see more of.

With regards to Charing Cross, I think they might be returning to the abandoned underground platforms again. I saw a tweet earlier which hinted at that, so I get the impression that the hotel itself might be the location base before the filming gets going.

That’s probably it Vauxhall - they have filmed down there again since Christmas. (this is the 4th time by my count) So, what they are doing seems complicated enough to require several visits with gaps (mind the gap).

I think they were using the hotel as a base on the first shoot at the station, it would be very handy, with actors and crew working all night.

Hmm..mi6.hq.com claims that the pics from the Charing Cross shooting today center around Bond exiting the Tube station and is chasing after Javier Bardem's character...hmm indeed..

that is very interesting.....nice to see Bond go after the villian instead of just chasing a henchman or someone...when the last time Bond chase after a villian? I do not remember one because most of the villians did not move around, more just give up orders. I think this would be different from the usual that Bond is going to chase the villian across the streets of London!

I doubt it. The street is very close to Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery and Charing Cross where filming has already taken place. I'm guessing that anything shot on William IV Street is more likely to be a part of that sequence.

Agreed. That it's set largely (mostly?) in Britain is one of the most intriguing things about SKYFALL.

Count me in. As a Londoner, there is the odd place you pass and know that Bond scenes have been filmed there in the past, but a whole series of events around Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Charing Cross - streets I know extremely well - brings a whole new sense of excitement, which I truly wasn't expecting.

This statement, posted on Twitter 14 hours ago ,confirms that they used for filming the disused Jubilee Line platforms at Charing Cross:

lipsticklori Lori Smith
Are the disused Jubilee Line platforms at Charing Cross sometimes used for filming? Just saw a crowd of people waiting around by the doors.

They have been filming scenes outside the station too:

carlwebber Carl Webber
Just casually saw Daniel Craig doing a bit of James Bond filming outside Charing Cross station. He's not very tall
