Would explain why they were able to shoot so much of London without Daniel around.
They filmed for about one week without Daniel, that's not really very much.

Good point. Feels like it's been longer.

I suppose with the Christmas/New Year break it seems longer. I think it’s obvious now that London is a major location in Skyfall. A lot of the plot and action will unfold there.

Didn´t they only film without Daniel because of his PR commitments to DRAGON TATTOO?
It seems as if a week that didn’t require him was scheduled for straight after the Christmas break to allow for this, yes.
Dragon Tattoo being released in the middle of the holidays also helped – This gave Craig over 3 weeks off to promote the film.

It really does sounds like I hate poor Dench. I don't really. I'm just tired of her and excess emminess in the films.

People who insist on retaining Dench operate under the assumption that Bond is desperately and continuously in need of "legitimization", and without Dench the series will automatically revert to a brainless, low-rent, laddish spectacle. Dench might have been essential in 1995, when the most recent film had been a dud, the new Bond actor was a lightweight TV star, and there were widespread suspicions that the franchise had lost all relevance. But today the films are profitable, critically respected (if not necessarily acclaimed), and the franchise is awash in talent. There is no doubt that Bond is strong. There's no need to cling to every scrap of prestige. They can afford to adopt an easy-come, easy-go approach.

Speculation was also rife that filming would take place in New York - because someone was seen eating in a restaurant or some such...I do recall reading somewhere, I think on CBN, that maybe a year after Quantum of Solace was released it was reported that Barbara Broccoli was planning on the next Bond film to do a lot of shooting in London..

It's great having Bond jet-setting to all these other exotic locations but this, here, Bond, at home, is something i've wanted to see more of.

I think they were using the hotel as a base on the first shoot at the station, it would be very handy, with actors and crew working all night.

Some posh restaurants there. "Scott's" from Fleming's novels?

I've been waiting years for this. The 'London' Bond film.

Agreed. That it's set largely (mostly?) in Britain is one of the most intriguing things about SKYFALL.

Count me in. As a Londoner, there is the odd place you pass and know that Bond scenes have been filmed there in the past, but a whole series of events around Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Charing Cross - streets I know extremely well - brings a whole new sense of excitement, which I truly wasn't expecting.

Are the disused Jubilee Line platforms at Charing Cross sometimes used for filming? Just saw a crowd of people waiting around by the doors.
They have been filming scenes outside the station too:

Just casually saw Daniel Craig doing a bit of James Bond filming outside Charing Cross station. He's not very tall

Seems that a bunch of Land Rovers will be some of the cars involved in the "explosive action" scene in Greenwich today..
