- Douglas Adams, not Shakespeare, is Britain's greatest writer.

I thought it was unpopular opinions the thread was after, not certifiable ones.

Anyway, it's Dickens.

Please tell me you're both joking. It's obviously Dan Brown. He's the author of a religious thesis you really need to read. If you can't read then give Tom Hanks a call, he'll tell you all about it.

Thread is on UNPOPULAR opinions people, not shades of intellectual debate.

As far as Dickens is concerned, I'm pretty sure "vulgar" is the opposite of "unpopular". ;)

I think Shakespeare is better in German.

I think Cervantes is better, period.

I prefer bad weather.

I think the British underrate their politicians and don't know how good they have it.

I prefer gin to vodka.

I admire the French.

I think every movie actress needs to gain at least forty pounds.

I hate eating in restaurants, but I love sleeping in hotels.

I hate watching movies at the cinema. (Well, maybe that's not such an unpopular opinion.)

Just had to happen didn't it? Didn't take long for this thread to descend into a vulgar and offensive tirade. I never thought I'd see the day when someone on THIS forum actually said, and I quote, 'I admire the French'. That's not unpopular, that's just rude.

Really? That's interesting. Well I have dark brown hair and am wearing a green vest today.

ooo - I've got another one:

I cannot believe the reputation system has gone. I really liked it.

Harry Potter movies, like the books, aren't that great. I've read and seen it before.

American Idol/X Factor is just Star Search with bells and whistles, sans Ed McMahon.

If you are The Biography Channel, old episodes of Matlock and Murder She Wrote should NOT be on your schedule.

True Blood is an awful, awful television show. I'll give you one guess why it is successful and it
has nothing to do with either the writing or acting.

Traditional network television is borderline unwatchable. There are exceptions.

Manhunter is the best film to feature the Hannibal Lecter character. This is in no small part because it a) barely features the character and b ) he isn't much of a character in it. Lecter, at least on screen, is an awful character, a moronic and borderline offensive Hollywood characterisation of a serial killer that would have been OK in a trashy series of genre flicks, but doesn't cut it in a series of "classy" "prestige" films. The Silence of the Lambs is a ridiculous movie (see the Comic Strip Presents team's Gregory: Diary of a Nutcase for an excellent and well-deserved skewering of all its idiocy), and the follow-ons don't even merit mentioning (well, I suppose Hannibal is vaguely passable).

I think Shakespeare is better in German.

Ah, German. If French is the language of love, German is the language of anger.

Really, really efficient anger.

I agree . . . though I disagree with your reasons as to why. Brian Cox noted that he played Lecter as insane, whereas Anthony Hopkins played him as crazy. Subtle difference, but an important one. "Manhunter" is for me more of a psychological thriller, whereas "The Silence of the Lambs" is simply a scary monster movie with good production values.

I should probably note that I don't think Lecter is an awful character in Manhunter; it's a perfectly fine character, but a rather peripheral one, without a particularly domineering presence. It's in Silence that his personality comes out, and where I start groaning. OK, he's not actually in the film that much, but I find the killer Foster is trying to track, Buffalo so-called Bill, to be equally ridiculous. I don't think it's an awful film per say (unlike Hannibal Rising and especially Red Dragon), but I do think it's very silly when dealing with a subject it seems to think it's treating with intelligence.

And I thought Shakespeare is best in Klingon.

Badaboom.

Also, just to return to the thread´s title:

I think MANHUNTER is totally overrated and only features nice cinematography.

Couldn't agree more. Jodie Foster's performance in the movie grates on my nerves when it isn't making me laugh.

I really really like The Lost World: Jurassic Park. I think it's a great movie. The Raptor scenes are definitely the best in the series.

I think it's about on par with the first movie; both are pretty hokey in places, but there are several great set-pieces and they pass along at a pleasing pace. And they seem like Jaws compared to, for example, the Transformers movies or even Independence Day

Hello, Dave; I'm sure you and Chris are very happy, now that the reputation system's kaput... :P

- South Park can be waaaay too conservative, sometimes; in those cases, they miss the point, but otherwise are still generally enjoyable and funny.

That's not singing. It's a lip sync rendition of a Lonely Island song that my friend and I recorded 5+ years ago.

It could be worse, Matthew Blanchette. I could have written In the immortal words of Buster Poindexter, "Hot Hot Hot". :-) on BigCutie MizzPuss' Facebook Wall.
