I don’t have much of a problem with that, it has quite a bit of style thanks to the production design and (as The Shark points out) the wonderful music. The only truly unforgivable thing about it is Connery’s ghastly spots jacket.

The thing about the ice-surf-thing is that every single element conspires to be as terrible as possible. I could not say that about the above from DAF.

Anyway, look at that shot from 2:18 to 2:41, where the camera dollies up and pushes in on Jimmy Dean and then switches focus to Connery. Fantastic.

That's proper film directing that is.

Interesting thing to comment about what could Skyfall be...

James Bond's loyalty to M is challenged over secrets from her past. When MI6 is attacked, it falls to Bond to seek out and eliminate the threat regardless of the cost to himself.

We know there is some type of "bog hook" to the script. Since we learned of the Bond family graveyard. I was wondering if anyone thinks the "big hook" could be some connection between both M and Bonds past?

It could be, but it would just be melodramatic because it opens up a personal angle. I'd say it's more likely that M has done something in the past that was so distasteul that once he finds out, Bond questions whether or everything he has done on her orders was actually the right thing to do.

Given what we've heard about Skyfall possibly being the name of Bond's ancestral home, I think the Portugese/Brasilian decision to promote the film as Operacao Skyfall may be a little presumptuous and premature.

Damn! And I've been trying to remain spoiler-free - which is at odds with my natural OC desire to be among the first to know!

I've just been having a look through Wilson and Ruggiero's unused Bond 17 story outline for bits that might end up in Skyfall.

Here's what I've come up with:

• A half-Chinese villain.
• Bond working undercover after he's believed to be dead.
• A high-speed night-time car chase.
• A floating restaurant.
• A henchman assassin.
• Bond in the lift shaft of an office building.
• MI5 being brought in to investigate a domestic terrorist incident over M's head after the Prime Minister loses faith in him.

Very. And obviously on top of that the shelved rooftop train sequence above a ravine that was introduced late in the scripting process.

Perhaps, but I think the ones that we know for certain are moer along the lines of details and embellishment rather than serious plot points. For example, a floating casino/restaurant would be a detail of the scene, rather than the scene itself.

Of course we don't know the exact nature of the scenes. But if these things were in a former script (floating casinos, domestic terrorist attacks, etc), and they are in Skyfall now in some capacity, they are relevant and not a coincedence. No matter how big of a part they play.

Indeed. Purvis & Wade will almost certainly be aware of previous scripts, but I'd find it odd if writers of the calibre of Morgan and Logan had been re-reading abandoned screenplays for GOLDENEYE. Admittedly, Purvis & Wade may well have introduced certain details or larger concepts at the behest of the producers, before Logan tightened up dialogue etc, but that wouldn't seem the most efficient writing process. The basic similarities to some previous ideas does seem fairly striking though.

Anyway about the SkyFall Plot Synopsis. How about some speculation?

Operation Skyfall some how connects M's past to Albert Finney who sends Silva out to get revenge.
MI5 starts their own investigation after the MI6 bombings and sends out Eve as their field agent.
Ralph Fiennes takes over as M while Judi Dench is on the run and must tie up her lose ends.
Bond gets a lead about Berenice Marlohe who is some how involved in Silva's business and investigates.

That is the best I can do sadly. This film seems like it will have many levels and a complex story. Should be a great Bond film. James Bond will return in 208 days.

We've know since the press conference that Skyfall will have some type of "emotional context" however we also know that its being called "Operation Skyfall" in Brazil.
I also remember reading claims that the plot could have something to with a satellite falling from orbit and Bond going after it because it has valuable information. Which from what I heard is also a plot device from a Bond novel from the 90's, 1999 I think.

I thought I would step it up a level and suggest that its not a satellite carrying information rather its the same satellite from Diamonds Are Forever. "James, how the hell do we get those diamonds down again?"-Tiffany Case/DAF

Banned, by the looks of it. Can't say i'm sorry to hear it either. His confrontational approach was wearing a little thin.

Back to the plot; doesn't it strike anyone as odd that M would accompany Bond to Skyfall manor in the first place? I know he speeds M away in a jag and i assume they head straight to Scotland but what worries me is that it's going to turn into a road movie of some sort. Though i don't see how it fits in with Shanghai, Turkey etc.
