Make of this what you will....

http://whatculture.c...led-skyfall.php

It appears that a brand protection company working for Sony Pictures registered a dozen URLS two days ago (on October 3rd) which suggest they are planning something around the term “Skyfall” and James Bond;
http://whois.domaint...ond-skyfall.com
http://whois.domaint...ond-skyfall.net
http://whois.domaint...bondskyfall.com
http://whois.domaint...bondskyfall.net
http://whois.domaint...kyfall-film.net
http://whois.domaint...all-thefilm.com
http://whois.domaint...all-thefilm.net
http://whois.domaint...ll-themovie.com
http://whois.domaint...ll-themovie.net
http://whois.domaint...skyfallfilm.net
http://whois.domaint...kyfallmovie.net
http://whois.domaint...fallthefilm.com
http://whois.domaint...fallthefilm.net
http://whois.domaint...allthemovie.com
http://whois.domaint...allthemovie.com
Not only that but in mid-August, SonyPictures.com domain name serves also had Sky-FallMovie.com and other such Skyfall related terms registered to them.

The Persian cat may well be out of the bag (assuming Blofeld does not have two cats and two bags).

But not with the words ‘Bond’ and ‘James bond’ in the same address.

this could be the title of the raven bond game?

I dunno ASSUMING this is true

On one hand thank god it's not another Kill Die or Gold title.

on the other

So bond 23 is not going to be a Fleming title shame but oh well.

So why use the expressions “Skyfall-film” and “Skyfall-movie”?

After a bit of investigation...
All the domain names are registered to D N Stination Inc which is a subsidiary of the brand protection company Mark Monitor.
Mark Monitor is the same company used by Sony Pictures for thousands of its domain names, including SonyPictures.com

Here's something interesting: I Googled "the sky is falling saying" - which is the first thing I could think of when I read the name "Skyfall" - and one of the first hits I got was "fiat justitia ruat caelum", which translates as "let justice be done though the heavens fall", or, in plan English, "justice must be done, whatever the consequences", which could be an interesing theme to explore. I could certainly see a villain calling his plan "Skyfall" based on a (slight) mistranslation of the Latin.

As far as I can see this could only mean one of two things. This is an elaborate smokescreen (domain names have given away the title early before and they know it) or...

we have actually found out the title of Bond 23.

I'm pretty sure we'll find out soon enough: when the QUNATUM OF SOLACE domain names were registered, they were registered just a few hours before the title was announced. EON wanted to leave things as late as possible to prevent an early leak, but to stop people registering the names within minutes of the annoucement. In the end, they were unsuccessful - but if they'd done it a week before, things might have been worse off. If it's the genuine article, then I expect an announcement soon. If it's a smokescreen, there will be no word, but I think everyone will be hesitant to trust any future domain registries.

Which could be just their strategy. :)

This is going to be interesting.

There's smarter ways of doing it - like registering dozens of domain names under fake titles, and rather than having them redirect to the Sony website, put in a fake image of a search engine, the find you get when ownership of a domain name expires.

Of course, setting up a bogus domain registration to encourage people not to trust search of recent registries is still clever. And less complex.

I was just thinking, they could quite easily have started this rumour by just registering jamesbond-skyfall.com and/or jamesbondskyfall.com. Going as far as to register all these variations, including ones that don’t include “Bond”, is very thorough.

Perhaps they are less devious than we give them credit… or more.

Well, "the sky is falling" is associated with Chicken Little, who caused a panic when he believed the world was ending. So maybe it's a private in-joke because Sony and/or EON know the discovery of the title will cause something not unlike hysteria.

The thoroughness is probably to cover bases - if this is the real title, they don't want someone scoring free hits to their website by registering something like "skyfall-themovie.com" because they didn't think it was necessary.

Of course, if it's a deception, then they want you to believe it. The more you believe it, the more effective it is - because if you believe it and it's a dummy, you'll be less likely to accept subsequent registrations, including the real one.

Of course, Sony released a sample of Another Way to Die a week before the actual song so that Coke Zero could promote themselves, so I'm not crediting them with an over-abundance of intelligence.

Frustrating, isn't it?

It's like you're playing chicken. But you don't know that you're playing chicken. And if you are playing chicken, then the other guy might be driving a mack truck or he might be riding a tricycle backwards whilst towing a caravan, and there's no way of knowing until you hit him.

If it is SkyFall, then I like it. It's a good nod to Thunderball and Moonraker, and, like Thunderball, would be a great codename for an operation, which could tie in some of the themes others have outlined above. If they choose not to go with one of the remaining Fleming titles then I have no problem with SkyFall.

I, along with most people, assumed they'd go for a Fleming title. I recognise the Thunderball/GoldenEye trend which this follows. But right now, if it's true, it sounds a bit odd and unexpected. Perhaps a bit underwhelming too. But I'll probably come around to it in time. It does have a doomsdayish ring to it, you know, the sky will fall in if the villain's plan succeeds.

My thoughts:

I find it a little short and lacking that Fleming quality the way something like Moonraker does. It rolls off the tongue easily enough (unlike, say, Tomorrow Never Dies or On Her Majesty's Secret Service; I find both to be a bit of a mouthful), but there's no real mystery to it. It has that unfamiliarity to it, I don't hear Skyfall and have it resonate withn me like For Your Eyes Only or You Only Live Twice; I don't want to know what a "skyfall" is the way I want to know what a Moonraker is. Of all the Bond titles, it's probably the hardest to place; I'll put it somewhere between Diamonds Are Forever and The Living Daylights for now - the upper bracket of titles, but not the standout (for me, that will always be From Russia With Love). Bottom end of the top ten, maybe. I think a lot of my feelings toward it will ride on the context of the name. If it's derived from fiat justitia ruat caelum (the part offered to Ralph Fiennes is said to be "darkly complex"; wanting justice for a perceived wrong by MI6 fits that bill to a tee), then I'll love it; if it's simply the name of an operation, then my feelings will be much more mixed. So at the end of the day (and here I am, only seventeen minutes into Thursday), I'll have to say that if Skyfall is the title, then I'll welcome it; certainly more than I would Risico or Red Sky At Night. But if this is not the title, then I won't be disappointed.

Care to elaborate on why?

I guess it'll be a grower. Not to impressed at the minute though. I really wanted a Fleming title.

It would be a bit of a waste if the film were given a Fleming title for the sake of it, wouldn't you say? For example, calling it THE PROPERTY OF A LADY when it has nothing to do with a lady's property.
