I got a good play on Goldeneye Reloaded at GameFest yesterday and I must say that I am now very excited for it.
The campaign was pretty much the same as the wii version (which I own) but it certainly felt smoother and more refined, I was using the Walther P99 most of the time and I must say that shooting enemies in the head had never felt more satisfying. I liked the new HUD too, it made the game easier to pick up (not that it was particularly difficult before, but it would certainly help for those Bond fans who aren't really gamers). Unfortunately, I didn't play the game particularly stealthily as I was in a rush to check out it's other features, so I can't comment on the new stealth system that has been mentioned in interviews, but the AI did feel more refined.
The graphics were very impressive, Craig's character model looked fantastic, and don't worry he was not just in his snow gear, even in MI6 ops the Bond skin changed to whatever he was wearing in the level in Campaign mode.
Speaking of which, and I know it's been talked about a lot but MI6 ops was the highlight for me. Before you jump into a mission, you can modify a hell of a lot of things from Player and Enemy health, to fun things like having a Golden P99, rag doll physics, paintball mode etc.
This immediately got my attention because it felt like playing the original game with the cheat menu, and I can see it really increasing the longevity of the game. The mode I played was a Jungle elimination mode, in which I had to kill 50 enemies and it took me a good 10 minutes or so just to get it down to 40, and the only modifier I had on was Rag doll physics (which I always find fun). This should appeal to those who miss the freedom to fool around during the campaign of the original. I think it really balances out the game as well, so you have a cinematic Bond adventure in the campaign, a fun and unrestrictive single player experience in MI6 ops, and a classic, extensive multiplayer experience.
I also got to play the game with that Playstation Move rifle peripheral that is in the 00 edition and I must say I was quite impressed with how the thing worked. It took a bit of getting used to, especially with things like turning around in the game, but once I got into a comfortable position I got quite into it. I can see it not being everyone's cup of tea though. But, I may actually think about buying the 00-edition depending on the price, especially with that extra Hugo Drax character.
But yes, I shall definitely be purchasing this when it comes out (although I'll have to trade in my wii version for it). I'm now particularly intrigued as to what new multiplayer features there will be.
But yes, if there's any questions you have about it that I haven't answered then fire away. Obviously, the demo I played was rather limited but I was impressed with how much I got to see.
