I like it a lot! After all the speculation over how the suit would be updated for the 21st century, we end up with a costume that's pretty much ripped straight from the comics, albeit with 'modern' materials. And that's fine by me because Superman's costume is, IMO, one of the few perfect designs in comic history, and hence does not and should not be "modernized" to fit with changing fashions and fads.

The only thing that's difficult to discern from this picture is whether he's wearing the red undies.

I wonder why that honeycomb design suddenly pops up everywhere? Spiderman, Green Lantern, now Superman. Is it supposed to look more dynamic?

I suppose so. I imagine the plain spandex look that those characters possess in the comics wouldn't look 'durable' enough on film. Maybe this new design trend is supposed to imply that the heroes' respective costumes are more protective.

Having said that, this look would absolutely not work for the inevitable Flash film, as that character's costume should be as a streamlined as possible, almost as if he's wearing a second skin.

I don't like that they got rid of the trunks but I do love the Earth 2 version of the \s/ so I can already start assuming his power levels will be pre-Crisis (or I can hope).

Its an interesting look. Laurence Fishburne playing Perry White. With his head shaved-could Matt Damon be Lex Luthor?

His costume looks a little Bizarro to me. Either that or someone's been leaking cigarette tar into the kryptonite again. I don't get the trend of the modern Superman movies needing to mute the primary colors of the costume; the color scheme works very well in the newer animated features like Superman:Doomsday and All-Star Superman. I'm not talking near-pastel Reeve-style colors, just a tad brighter. Heroic, bright, not moody. Not Batman.

I may get used to the texture, but right now I'm smacked with how aquatic it looks, shiny and scaly.

Big pluses include the regal cape style (something I would expect from a Snyder film) and the more classic shape of the 'S' and the notches in the boots below the knees.

While I can't get the BeeGees' theme to Grease out of my head when I look at him from the neck up, I think he'll bring some new life to the look and feel of Superman. The increasing quality of the animated features is making it less and less easy for Cavill, Snyder and the gang.

I need to see a better pic of costume before fully commenting on it.

You may have a great point; I'd be willing to ease up on my cynicism if a more brightly lit pic shows the costume to be more vibrant than what we see in this image.

I don't mind them ditching the trunks, and will probably adjust to the texture, but the muted colours are all wrong. I came across this touch up that does a decent job of what the costume could look like with more colour:

I don't want to read too much into one publicity shot, but I hope this isn't an indication as to the tone of the whole film.

Nice, that looks much more like the appropriate color scheme. Hopefully it will look a tad more like that when we see Supes in the air.

I would like the trunks to be there. They serves the purpose of breaking up the blue so he's not a giant blue crayon. Besides, the tights/trunks combo is paying tribute to the circus strongman look that inspired the costume in the first place.

Now that I see the full thing not as sold on it as I once was. Then again, I know little about Superman and only have a superficial concept of what he should look like (I suppose in a similar fashion to the way certain individuals view the character of Bond). Sure the movie will be good, though. Costume won't matter so long as all of the other elements are in place.

Agreed - yet, if the comics have chosen to lose the red trunks this movie is "only" following the new canon. In a few years people will ask: why did the previous movies always featured these hideous red trunks?

If I have learned anything about comics its this-if fans gripe enough change can be made. Spider-Man's Iron Man costume comes to mind. I have no doubt the comics will change to a classic look. Based on the pic posted here, photoshopping trunks can be done. Or once the toys come out I can paint them on. Still, the costume is ok, but I did like the costume from Superman Returns. This costume doesn't look as dark, but using the brighter color scheme like the Chris Reeve films.

Has anyone heard on when a Teaser Trailer is coming for this? IMO it would be perfect if it came with the Dark Knight Rises

Since this would be the perfect Nolan-double pack... especially for WB which needs SUPERMAN to work big time.

This may be of interest for the costumes, from the Licensing Expo 2012, courtesy of comingsoon.net...

I think that's what Nolan had in mind from probably the start of 'Batman Begins', to flesh out a trilogy of films in his vision, and so this will be marketed as a 'trilogy' of Batman films - the same stars, crew and studio behind them all to make one big Batman epic.

The history of Superman-comics, radio and film, this is long, runs about 36 minutes but VERY informative:

If you saw The Dark Knight Rises, you may have seen the teaser trailer for Man of Steel. I liked the teaser, I don't think it showed too much, and you get to see Superman flying into space, nice touch. Any thoughts?

It's pretty dull as far as teasers go.

I liked it because it was different, calm, really only teasing without giving too much away. Cavill seems to be very interesting as Superman/Clark.

I was a little dissaopinted in it...maybe I wanted a bit more of a tease. Cavill certainly sparks an interesting portrayal of Clark Kent, and if Nolan can channel anything like Christian Bale brought to Bruce Wayne then Henry Cavill as Clark Kent should be great...ooh, Bale = Bruce, Cavill = Clark...nice.

Love the Superman flying shot...always a magnificent sight to see the big blue boy scout in action on film again!

Have to agree with you, Mark...the teaser WAS pretty dull...didn't even realize it was for Man Of Steel until it was halfway over..you'd have thought they would have at least put in a few strains of John Williams' Superman them to pump up the audience...but it was only on teaser so we'll see what the next trailers bring..I am still looking forward to this movie!

Me too Dove...it had strains of a big dramatic movie but it was only seeing Zack Snyder's name it clicked.

I would have loved a few bars of the Superman theme...I mean, look at the Superman Returns teaser....big and bombastic maybe for popcorn fun but THAT was one hell of a tease for Superman!!

But they made it clear that this is a completely new approach. And as much as I love the SUPERMAN theme by Williams, it would not have worked at all.
