KEY PLOT POINTS

17 Villain's Plot:

The villain is Juliane Faust, a defence contractor and owner of Faust Defence Engineering, who is submitting a tender for the development the next generation of fighter jet. Her proposal involves the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), a computer simulation that can produce prototypes so quickly and efficiently that it will reduce the nation's defence spending by as much as eighty percent. She plans to demonstrate CFD through her Grand Prix racing team, Faust Grand Prix Engineering and the JFX-01 racing car, arguing that the competitive world of motorsport will showcase the CFD process and allow her to iron out the flaws in the system faster than in any other medium. MI6 suspects a foreign power is attempting to hijack CFD for themselves. Bond, however, discovers that the plan to build the fighter jet is a sham - in order to prove the system's worth, Faust has been sabotaging the delicate electronics of her rivals' cars with powerful electromagnets. Faust plans to run the fighter jet project into the ground, blowing out the budget and ruining the economy of the United Kingdom.

I was also thinking of ZODIAC and PANIC ROOM, too. And he's said to be working with Craig on an adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, which would be awesome.

Actually, I only added him because there was no room for a writer. I was going to suggest Tim Minear.

Love the idea of Fincher as the director. He's a guy that EON really needs to get into the director's chair of a future Bond film.

Eventually, yes. Still trying to form a concrete idea. There's a few kind of floating out there, but I can't really seem to put them together in any kind of acceptable form. Oh well, if I can't get one done soon, I might put down a title song performer or something. B)

Yes it struck me as the kind of unique building that would work well in a Bond film. Especially if you blow it up at the end B)

Go ahead and fill in the title song performer. I'll put my choice in there for the next one. :)

I figure since I came up with the villain that I might as well go ahead and find something villainous for her to do, which is what I'm spending some time right now trying to figure out.

Good submission, t.

I'm hoping that now that we have all but one location, people will start submitting ideas relative to those locations, i.e. an action sequence set in Seattle and a finale showdown at the Taipei 101 building.

I'll bear the possible addition of a writer category for the next round (UB25) should we choose to go into it. tdalton, noiced you missed Taipei 101 from the list, so have put that back in - and I know what you feel like, have also got an awesome location to use in the next round.

Would anyone object to me changing the Acapulco location I suggested to Singapore? The place is part of the Grand Prix circuit and the Marina Bay Sands hotel in which Bond could stay has an infinity pool on the fifty fifth store which would be fabulous to use in the movie.

I was just pondering this, for anyone who's considering submitting an idea for the car choice: How about instead of a car, Bond's sole mode of transportation is a motorcycle? It might be a nice change of pace.

It would certainly be possible, coco. But it's all up to whomever chooses to fill in that field - and that's what's enjoyable about this project, the disparate elements in people's heads being brought together.

Even though it's not your turn, I like the title choice.

Yes, not your turn yet - sorry for the confusion B) One more unique participant (or the second dip by Tybre) and then we can all have a third turn.

Not so keen on the title myself, it has to be said. I know CT was picturing a title more in keeping with the plots Moonraker roots, so I was going to propose Shatterhand as the title of the treatment - and use it in the same way that Moonraker was used in CT's proposal, as the name of the fighter pilot project.

But majority rules and I'm happy to go with the majority decision.

Singapore is an interesting choice, because elements of this plot were directly inspired by events that happened there. Fernando Alonso won the inaugural Singaporean Grand Prix back in 2008, and while it seemed normal enough, it later transpired that Renault's team principal, Flavio Briatore, had ordered the team's second driver, Nelson Piquet Jnr., to deliberately crash his car on a certain lap. Alonso had qualified poorly - down around fourteenth - and his team opted for a very odd strategy that saw him pit early (which only really works if you're one of the first cars on the road). He was the first in, several laps before anyone else planned it. At the time, the rules dictated that no driver was allowed to pit under safety car conditions, so when Piquet crashed, everyone had to stay out in the queue. When the safety car peeled away, everyone pitted because everyone needed to pit (this was in the days of refuelling, which has since been banned) and Alonso inherited the lead and went on to win. Everything was quiet for about a year, but then Renault dropped Piquet in the middle of 2009 (he was utterly rubbish) and he started talking with the authorities, claiming that Briatore had ordered him to crash on a lap that benefitted Alonso and in a way that would bring out the safety car, or else risk losing a contract for 2009 (Briatore was both Piquet's team principal and manager, a dangerous conflict of interests). Eventually Briatore was found guilty and banned for life, but had the decision overturned when a civil court ruled that in their haste to prosecute Briatore, the sport's governing body (deeply unpopular at the time) failed to follow due process and the ruling was overturned. He hasn't been seen since, though - the stigma associated with Briatore means no-one is willing to touch him. The smaller teams might have been willing to consider him, but Briatore is so arrogant that he'd only deign to work for a top team.
