Ha! Awesome! Thanks, volante.Great report.
I was lucky enough, to have a good 5 minute chat with Mr. Deaver (much to the chagrin of those waiting)
We spoke of the challenges of writing the Lincoln Rhyme character.
THEN
I mentioned Commanderbond .net and my 'friend' Charlie Axworthy (he immediately referred to the Zencat and Bryce encounter)
...and then we were away on Project X
Mr. Deaver divulged that a lot of research had gone into XBond's new bio; the history into getting Bond into the 00 section. He confirmed that XBond will be a dark complicated character in true Fleming style. I asked if we could expect other Fleming characters to cement the story. e,g Leiter
He replied that he was aware of the desire of the fan base to refer to the past, whilst accepting the 'reboot'. He smiled and said "You won't be disappointed".
My friend then asked; if he would be writing a number of Bond books. To which he replied; he had only been asked to do one.

Awesome report, Volante. Bit jealous you managed to have a slightly longer chat with him than I did.
Ha ha; roll on May 2011; we'll corner him again then!
Besides my friend has already read half of 'The Burning Wire' so she softened him up with "The Hairdryer"
it was a good "in" joke between them.

It's the 2006 UK Penguin edition of Casino Royale that has Deaver's foreword.Deaver is coming to town for a book signing soon - this month, I think - and I'm looking for suggestions of Bond-related items to obtain and get signed. I'm considering having an 8x10 of a photo of Deaver and Benson that I found online printed, having him sign that and then hope that I can get Benson to do likewise sometime. I seem to recall talk of Deaver having written a foreward to a reprint of one of Fleming's 007 novels; would someone please jog my memory as to which book and edition that was? Any other suggestions?
By the way, check your PMs.

I think the book you are thinking of is the Casino Roayle by Peguin with the Jeffery Deaver introduction. I met him once and he will sign anything, great guy!
Agree - he's marvelous. When I saw him earlier this year, I bought and had signed the book that he was then promoting (which I thought only polite), a photo portrait of JD that I copied from his website - probably the best photo ever taken of the man - and that paperback edition of Garden of Beasts...the one with the almost Bond-esque little silhouette on the cover.
Thanks for reminding me of that Penguin Casino Royale edition - I shall have to try to get ahold of one.
This bookstore in Scottsdale, Arizona where Deaver always does his signings also usually gets a poster-sized enlargement of current releases, which they have dry-mounted for sturdiness, and display, and occasionally they will have a little trivia contest at signings and give those posters away as prizes. I'm most definitely going to have to do everything possible to ensure that, when Project X comes out, the nice lady who owns the shop gets one of those posters of the Projext X cover, and that, one way or another short of gunpoint, I get it from her, and get JD to sign it.
Those things make wonderful displays, particularly when signed; it took me nearly twenty years, but I finally got Robert B. Parker to sign my Poodle Springs poster, a couple of years before his passing.

Excuse my spelling! I agree Jeffery D is a lovely guy. A Project X poster would look awsome! Good idea.

Afraid it might have to be at gunpoint, after all. I communicated with the shop owner yesterday, and she advised me that those nice poster-sized book cover posters cost over $200! I'm sure that most of that is the cost of dry-mounting them; I used to work at a place that did that, and it's ridiculously expensive for the small amount of work involved. I'm sure she'll get one for the shop, at least, and perhaps I'll suggest that she do what I've seen her do before: have a - in this case, a 007 -trivia contest and give the poster to the winner. (I'm ready for that one.)
