Zencat getting Casino Royale signed by Deaver is quite a scoop. The last person who tried anything like that at a Faulks signing got tasered like Mathis in Casino Roayle and were lead off by security with their feet dragging behind them. I still laugh to this day about when I woke up in a skip.

I think he enjoyed signing the CR. He flipped to the intro page and announced out loud that he was signing it "Deaver, Jeffery Deaver", and he did. Got a nice laugh from everyone in line.

BTW, speaking of authors and CR, when I got together with Charlie Higson last month, I brought my CR first edition to show him. Don't think he'd ever held one before. He asked me if I'd like him to sign it. B)

I met Faulks at the DMC launch party. But it was a quickie. A celeb greeting. Just said I was a fan and was looking forward to the book.

Only corresponded with John Gardner once. Wish I would have gotten to know him and let him know how much I enjoyed his books, but I was too shy.

You have done them all then, to a certain degree, with some even loving you!

I am off to see Deaver in July. I am sure I will be to shy to say anything.

Speaking of being off to see Deaver, I'm out the door in a few minutes for the Westwood signing. I have a question chambered, but I'll probably be more a fly on the wall for this one. Hoping to see some of the Bond regulars there.

Thats the spirit, lucky you can make time for it.

I am off to read his Casino Royale intro again.

Just looking at his UK tour, you can see he really does go for it. Day after day touring. No rest. Some days two events in a day!. He is dedicated, hope he gets a chance to see the sights. Hope he lets me know if he wants a tour of Sevenhampton. B)

Just back. Another great event. Not too much new in regards to intel. JD did use the word reboot ("we're calling it a reboot"), and said they hadn't really settled on Bond's age (but it would be somewhere around 29/30). He also said he probably won't say exactly what year the book takes place, but it's 2010 or 2011. I asked about the title which yield some nice info that I will use to make a new thread. There was something else that I can't remember now, dang-it. Bryce and JD bonded over Bond's choice of alcohol and something else, but I'll leave to Bryce to tell you about that.

EDIT: Ah, I remember the other thing now. He said May 28, Fleming's birthday, is a Saturday so the book probably won't be released on that exact day. It'll be sometime around that date.

EDIT 2: Title thread here.

Well, quite the day.

To begin with, Mr. Deaver is very laid back and approachable. He truly enjoys writing and his sense of humor is spot on for Bond IMO. Not dry but witty. Zencat kindly introduced me and mentioned that I "lived it".

JD: You're not carrying a PPK or Beretta are you?

Zen: You never know with him. Possibly.

I glanced about and slid my hand under my jacket. JD backed away in mocked fear. The quick chat of Bond's drinking preference and that good single malt would be a staple along with fine champagne (French rose') was agreed upon. I mentioned Fleming's fondness of Tattinger and he concured.

As to Bond's car, I mentioned that, along with the scotch, a mid to late 80's Jag had my vote. His reaction (perhaps I caught something a bit in his reaction or am - most likely - reading too much into it) was one of "hmmm...." but then he dismissed it in a funny way saying "I don't believe I can comment anymore on this."

So, the bare facts:

- The outline at present is 180 pages.

- He has 45 titles he's come up with and he has never had anyone create a title for any of his works. Odds are he'll pick his favs and then narrow it down with IFP.

- "Project X" is the working title and it will be something Bond is investigating. That leads me to believe that the title just *might* be something like Thunderball - The name of the operation as opposed to a character or turn of a phrase.

- Again, as to the date and it falling on a Saturday, it's as Zencat stated. It may be around the 28th, but then again, a book can be launched any day of the week.

Later, Zencat pondered whether the launch would be in London or NYC. Personally, I'm betting on London but I could easily see one happening in New York either as a follow up or perhaps the initial one. My money is on London as with DMC for the kick off though. I just need to know so I can book my suite at the Dorchester or St. James Club - or - the Waldorf or at the Plaza.

His talk on writing was top notch and informative in many respects. Apparently all authors get to spend their down time being fed grapes by bikini clad girls on a tropical beach with fancy umbrella drinks and a limo and a private 747 at their disposal.

Just as I imagined it. *note to self* start writing more.

Bottom line: This is the man for the job.

Yes, you explained that much better than I did in my title thread. And while Thunderball also popped into my head as he said this, I thought after that it could also be the villian's name. After all, Bond is investigating Goldfinger in Goldfinger.

As to Bond's car, I mentioned that, along with the scotch, a mid to late 80's Jag had my vote. Yeah, there was almost a beat of recognition. It was something.

True, but Goldfinger is a character. The operation and investigating Goldfinger is never given a name. It's just an assignment for Bond by way of the Bank of England via MI6. I believe that's the deal for both the novel and the film.

Yeah, there was almost a beat of recognition. It was something.

Okay, good. So it wasn't just me that caught that. B)

Jesus Christ! Do these people have no respect! They are cracking their lunch boxes out under his nose! For the love of God!

(I take it it was a lunch with Deaver book signing)

Was it a good turn out at the events Zencat?

Yes, it was a "lunch with the author" event. The store sold little boxed lunches and drinks. Most were finished when the talk began.

Turn out was very good at both events I went to. Almost every seat filled. I asked the store owners if they would have him back next year for the Bond book. Both said, "I hope so!"

Were they independent book shops? The lunch box idea sounds like a good one. Waterstones wont be doing that here in the UK. You only get that treatment from independent ones here. No offense to Waterstones. Most if not all of Jeffery Deaver's stops are Waterstones in the UK. I have a day off to follow him to two events. I will be like a roadie, without the guitars, amps and wage.

Now I just have to read "Roadside Crosses", "The Sleeping Doll" and "A Maidens Grave" which I picked up cheap today. Ticked "Garden of Beasts of" already.

Oh, plus "The Cold Moon" first edition signed. 1 month to read all this...... B)
