Time to start the mass production now to have these ready for the end of May.

Oh and I was talking to a British friend who is not an internet James Bond fan but he knew of the new novel coming out and already pre-ordered a copy from his local bookstore. So, I guess somewhere along the line the marketing campaign is working.

I wonder, would the printers not already be working? I'd have thought part of the print run is already finished and wrapped, waiting to be shipped.

It's CONFIRMED. Carte Blanche has a new cover.

Excellent. The other one was good, but this has more flavour.

I like the red one. The grey blended in with the background image a little too much.

Prefered the subtlety of the original rather than the new one.

Still, this is what we're going to get and it could have been much, much worse. (The UK DMC, the later Gardner and Benson covers anyone? Yuk).

Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

Sounds like M. It also sounds like Bond will be combating terrorism in the modern sense. I'm officially excited.

No really, sounds fairly exciting.

" A Night Action alert calls James Bond away from dinner with a beautiful woman. Headquarters has decrypted an electronic whisper about an attack scheduled for later in the week: Casualties estimated in the thousands, British interests adversely affected."

I cannot tell you how much I love the sound of that.

That first part indeed sounds like an M figure would probably. Reminds me of M's "Changing world, changing times, James"-speech from Licence Renewed. Wonder about that new organisation that's probably the OO department. The phrasing suggests nobody is aware of their goings-on, not even the MI6 staff, doesn't it?

Night Action is in capitals. Interesting. Perhaps something Deaver has dreamt up.

I expect this is what's on the U.S. jacket fly-leaf. Maybe the'll be something different or more on the UK edition.

Worth pointing out. ;)

I assume you're upset because there is no such thing as a Ministry of Defense. Doesn't bother me too much, it is a pulp fantasy afterall, and the phrase "Ministry of Defense" sounds cool anyway. No biggie.

Nice turn of phrase by Mr. Deaver. No baggage except the traditional spirit in a modern context. Looking back in time and reflecting on the morals predecessors identified with, and adopting them. Case in point "protecting the realm." Makes sense, I think. This reboot was exactly what the series needed.

Well i'm not overly excited by the extract but i'll reserve full judgment until i've read the whole book.

However a secret department unknown to and operating independently of MI5/MI6? And Bond is now an Afghan war vet? Seems like we can expect full-on revisionism to the point where the character is just named James Bond but has nothing in common with the Fleming literary Bond.

And i also prefer the old understated cover with the gray lettering. Red lettering is purely an attempt to make it stand out more for the benefit of better sales.

I think he is referring to the incorrect spelling of defenSe when it should according to British English be spelt defenCe. Surprised the proof readers didn't pick this up.

Gotcha, so the UK/Aus/Canadian edition should have defence with a c.
