Secondly we were promised a title that was not too far off from Beneath The Ice and with this i can't see the similarities.

Who promised this?

I suspect whom ever it was had nothing to do with the choosing of the title.

I like my dad. I like dads in general. I like Pierce Brosnan's way of being a dad. I like his way of being Bond.

I DO NOT LIKE NAMING A BOND MOVIE WITH THE ACRONYM D-A-D!!!!!!!!!!!

Die another day????? This is the best they can think of? It sounds like a chapter title, not a whole movie title! Nah....I'd take Beyond the Ice over this.

And as an aside to Mr. Moon, first and foremost, thank you. Would you like to the my vice president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Roger Moore?

I rather like it.
As Mourning Becomes Electra (who likes her/his ? puns as well as there Classics) points out it does fit in with the Fleming tradition of putting a spin on an ordinary phrase.
"Live to -Die Another Day".

And it,s got to be a hell of a lot easier to fit into a song than "Shatterhand"

"Who,s the man,
that broke all the vows that came,
with a wedding band...

Shatterhand..."

Naaah...it was never going to work.

I think it's much better than any of the rumored titles. Well, then. That brings the record to 0-3 when it comes to rumors of the title of the next Bond movie ever since I've been a Bond fan.

(This is my first post, so hi)

As for me, I'm a little mixed on the title. Die Another Day is a very Bondish sounding title, but I don't know if it's that good of one. I suppose I'll have to let it grow on me...I'm sure it will...but it just seems too similar to Tomorrow Never Dies, which I think was a better title. They did release A View to a Kill and Licence to Kill fairly close together, after all.

I'm trying, but it just isn't working. It doesn't flow atall, I keep wanting to say 'Another Day To Die', I even have to think before I say 'Die Another Day' I can't even remember it. I don't hate it, just wish I liked it.

I haven't given my thoughts here yet, so here goes:

When I first heard the title, I tought it was a joke. Mainly because at first it didn't sound to 'Bondy',although it does now. Secondly we were promised a title that was not too far off from Beneath The Ice and with this i can't see the similarities.

Now that I've had to time to think about it and chat with friends about, I must say that I now am starting to like it. One of my mates said that he liked it a lot and that it seemed 'contempory'. The others weren't really bothered and were just glad that there was a title atl last.

I feel it would improve greatly with th inclusion of 'To'.
'To Die Another Day' sounds much better as do:
Die Another Death
To Die Another Death
Another Day To Die (ok maybe not this one)
Live To Die Another Day
Live To Die Another Death
Live Another Day
Live Another Death (hey I like this one. Might use it as a fanfic title)

So, who wants 'Everything Or Nothing' as the title for Bond21?

GEEEZE! I'm away from the forums for a few days and look what happens!

I've had a chance to mull over the title (which I agree would be improved by the addition of "To..."), and my main gripe is that it is not memorable. In fact I kept forgetting exactly what it was, apart from having "Die" in it somewhere and the initials "D.A.D. There's something rather glib and bland about "Die Another Day".

But perhaps I'm in denial because I liked "Cold Eternity", which had really menacing undertones.

I stunned to hear that some of you preferred Beyond the Ice.

Ater the song, and the snippets of background on the title (like it being bab's favourite) I personally grew to accept it, and grew to love it.

But I instantly liked DIE ANOTHER DAY. It's Bond. It's aggressive, yet poetic. I

It alos happens to be:
o Easily marketable
o Recognisable as a "Bond" type film to the average schmuck
o Translates well
o Has something about death in the title

I think gentlemen, this is a case of Marketing versus Bond tradition.
Die Another Day
Dies Never Tomorrow

Familiar??? :)

Will we ever see a title as "daring to be different" such as the likes of "Octopussy".
No. :)

This is Flemingesque? I don't think so either.

Money rules, it's sad but true, and heaven knows what the title for Bond 21 will be like. "Death Is Yesterday" or some such *****, err, spin off.

OK guys, this time next week I will love the title as it will have become ingrained in Bondlore by then. But for heaven's sake Mickey G and Babs, swing your lead and get a Bond title pushed through the markeing people next time.

The pertinent question is are any of us NOT going to see this movie because we dont like the title?
I guess the unanimous answer would be NO.

The fact that there is now a title reassures me that EON/MGM are definitely getting their :) together.

Yes "she" does like her classics, even if that Eugene O'Neill play is not a particular favorite it is a fitting pun for a Bondish nickname. ;-)
............

Villian: Mr. Bond it's useless to run, your death is near...

Bond: He who fights and runs away lives to die another day... catch me if you can I'm the Gingerbread Man .... ouch my leg (well that explains the knee injury) ... ooops wrong film... (easily the funniest bit in Shrek IMHO)

But seriously it works.

And yes it will make for a title of a good song, especially if Bond is as rumored tortured during the opening credits.

Actually, I was looking forward to COLONEL SUN.  Does anyone know if they were simply unable to get the rights to it?

Eon has made it quite clear that they will NEVER EVER use a post-Fleming Glidrose title, EVER! It's not about rights (they own the rights), I suspect it's about ego. If they were going to use a non-Fleming Bond book title I think we can all agree this would have been the time to do it. After today, I'm ready to go on record and say we will NEVER see a Bond movie called COLONEL SUN or ICEBREAKER or any other Amis/Gardner/Benson title.

im just going to laugh a little at some of you people!!!!

some time ago someone suggested "The Wizard Of Ice" as the title and most of you liked it!

And look at you now!!! or at least some of you....
You are critisising "Die Another Day" just because the acronym is DAD. What the F**C does the acronym matter!!!!

DAD isnt any worse then YOLT, and i would pick it over wizard any time, any place. Besides, the acronym of wizard is TWOI!!! is TWOI any better than DAD. IMO, no, absolutly not.

I stunned to hear that some of you preferred Beyond the Ice. Come on, that was a passive, confusing, weak title. I tried to warm up to Cold Eternity but never could. And Double Cross was just too awful to contemplate (and I don't think this was ever a serious choice).

But I instantly liked DIE ANOTHER DAY. It's Bond. It's aggressive, yet poetic. I agree it sounds like a Benson title, but it's a good Benson title! Certainly it's the best non-Fleming inspired title. And somehow when I think of Jinx and Graves and the Aston Martin blasting down an icy road I see this title. I'm very happy today.

Actually, I was looking forward to COLONEL SUN. Does anyone know if they were simply unable to get the rights to it? Somehow, I doubt Michael Wilson was talking about DIE ANOTHER DAY when he said they had a title that fans would love.

It's a better title than the others, but it's still not really worth the wait. I think it would sound better with a minor addition such as TO DIE ANOTHER DAY, et al. (Of course, then it does sound a little too much like TND.) But you get the idea, just something to make it sound more like a Fleming-esque phrase and less like a straight-to-video actioner.

As far as the other titles, I actually liked BEYOND THE ICE...just not as a Bond title.

Funny, I once came up with a melody for a Shatterhand song. I'll see if I can whip up a crude demo. I have no idea how I'll record it much less get it onto a computer.

When I said escape I meant escaping the ordeal even though Moon is releasing Bond. Moon says to Bond at the handover: "you get to Die Another Day.

Imagine you were the one that Dr. Kaufman chakra tortured for 58 hours (a record according to Stamper), and having him say to you at the end of the first two days; "Sorry, but you die another day".

I agree with Mr* here, it's to do with the enslavement, but more in the escape rather than the detention itself.

Bond escapes to die another day.

Mmmmmmmmmmm.....maybe it will grow on me. My initial feelings are that the title is a bad choice. Of all the Flemingesque titles they could have come up with for the 40th Anniversary this is the best they can come up with. Frankly it wasn't worth the wait. Oh, well I suppose I'd better go and design a banner now with that title on so I can use it for the teaser poster whenever the hell that appears....
Am I the only one who think the title sucks ?

Well...I kinda like it. And I can see how it could fit into the movie to, as most Bond titles do.

Just imagine Bond has Graves/Moon/Falco/Phil Collins at gun point or what have you...

"Sorry, Bond, but I die another day."

And then he makes his miraculous escape to return in the NEXT movie.

(Well, I suppose it'll play out better on screen...this description isn't even half as dramatic as the one in my head. Ah, to be able to scoop out my brains and post them on the internet for you all to enjoy.)

Yeah, so....DIE ANOTHER DAY...WHOO!

I've heard some people suggesting that thetitle has eference to Gustav Graves coming back!  How is this?  I mean, i thought would have something to do with Falco returnng, after all he is coming back in Bond 21!!!

My theory is that the title refers to Bond's capture.

Bond: I suppose you're planning on killing me now?

Col. Moon: No, Mr. Bond, I have other plans for you. You'll just have to die another day.

Hopefully though the title will work on several levels.

I'm getting rather sick of people stating how this ruins the film and that it's disappointing for the 40th Anniversary. Jeez. This is a better title than we could've hoped for. What did you guys want as a title, a "lost" Fleming title recently discovered? Beyond the Ice sucked as a title. It sounded like a Discovery Channel special. This title is as close to Fleming as we're gonna get, and it's going to make for some great PR. Just because it's the 40th Anniversary of James Bond also isn't an excuse to please only fans. Casino Royale as a title is horrible in the modern age of James Bond, and it would be a turn off to viewers. Die Another Day has that Bond feel. I just view the 40th Anniversary as something cool - not that I should be seeing the greatest Bond film ever. It's just a special date, same old Bond. The title is more than special enough, I think. Personally, I believe that expectations are so high, this film is never going to live up to what you guys are expecting. You're waiting for the ultimate Bond film. You're not going to get it, most likely. All Bond films have their flaws. So will this one. You can't expect something that's perfect. It just won't happen!!!

I have to be amazed at how great of a job, Mickey G and Babs did keeping this under wraps. There was no clue that Die Another Day was going to be the title until I heard it about five minutes before the official press release came online.

I must applaud the Cubblings for doing a wonderful job of keeping the title out of the rumour mill until they were ready. As much as all of us wanted to know the title, I was glad to hear it from the official source nearly first. So there was no wondering is Die Another Day really the title (Well, there was for those five minutes but that ain't so bad.) And they have proven to me never again believe a Bond title rumour, particularly if it has the word 'Ice' in it.

Do you know what... I like it alot... I also jumped up and down when I read it. My only foible is that it sounds a bit short... I think it would sound better if it was "To Die Another Day" or "Live to Die Another Day" but if you lengthened it it wouldn't have that clever "swapping live for die like Live And Let Die" thing going on with it. I like it alot but struggle to remember it if I'm just thinking to myself "What's the name of the next Bond movie again?". So there you go... I like it better than Cold Eternity and a bit more than Beyond The Ice but I think we all got used to "Beyond The Ice". I shall stop rambling now.
