I failed to see the playful nature of your post.

I can understand; had Gravity's Silhouette posted a similar statement, I would not be so forgiving.

Mr Blofeld getting medieval on your B). A terrifying thought.

No, you can't understand, and you obviously don't, because Gravity's Silhouette blah blah blah Gravity's Silhouette blah blah blah Gravity's Silhouette blah blah blah homophobia.

Let's get together at the next Klan cookout, y'all.

Be sure to bring J.W. with ya, y'all heah, now?

If you're not careful, I'll get medieval on yours...

Oddly, I think Mr Silhouette was indeed being deliberately playful with his Singer comments - which is where I took the baton and tried to be a bit silly. It clearly failed. But has some of my best friends are not gay, we will say no harm done. Let's move on. Nothing to see here... and we will all meet in the CBN showers later...

Right now....Mendes....Bond....directing.... consulting... as long as his alleged new friend Rebecca Hall is involved I will be very pleased and see a notion I had about a year ago realised (I put Ms Hall up for leading lady and/or a possible MONEYPENNY).

Yeah, hate to tell you this but Peter Hunt was one of the men who defined 007.

How so?

He was part of the core team on the early films... as if you didn't know. B)

Even if Spielberg/Lucas made statements about the tone of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" referring to their marital problems, I refuse to believe that every director will impose their current state of mind on a film. And such an expensive enterprise as a Bond film definitely would not be allowed to become a personal hate letter.

Besides, some people do split up because they just don´t love each other anymore. That does not mean that they have to hate each other then. Maybe, it was just time for Mendes and Winslet to part ways.

And definitely, it´s not anyone else´s business.

From a UK tabloid re: Kate and Sam's split.

"The statement was issued after the actress flew to Mexico with the children while Mendes was with friends in New England. His Bridge Project theatre company had finished productions in New York of Shakespeare's The Tempest and As You Like It on Saturday night.
A source close to Mendes explained the break-up by saying: 'He became bored working on his latest theatrical project, and he took that boredom home with him. And that led to the spark being taken out of their marriage.'"

So maybe this is time for Sam to throw himself 'officially" into another "not boring" project to take his mind off things and to take the publicity off his split.

There's a tillgirl at my local Waitrose who looks just like her, all fat and gums. Judging by the one time I slept with her, she has as much acting ability as Miss Winslet as well.

Because sometimes - just sometimes - your posts are dry but not so dry as to go over everyone's head in CBN Land. It's when "people" get personal and vindictive that the problems start. But as it happens I find your comments about Bryan Singer amusing and playful - which is what you rightfully intended (though will never admit).

Though I will add that to the current discussion that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg admitted that the former was not around or on-set that much throughout all the INDIANA JONES films and that Lucas did not write the screenplays nor direct them (he provided the base stories).

There is no "if". Everybody connected with that project, including the hack himself, George Lucas, said that his divorce left him in such a dark place emotionally that he found himself receptive to the ideas pitched to him by Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, including ideas such as disembowelment, black magic, drinking blood, etc...

Not forgetting that Hyuck and Katz themselves are a husband and wife team! B)

I immediately knew you were being sarcastic, and I often wonder why people can't figure that out (even on the Internet), but I wasn't going to say anything because it's fun to string people along and toy with their feelings and emotions.

Fun, perhaps.

I’ve been reflecting lately on Mendes’ vampire flick, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, unremitting life-sucking force that it is, and I’m not feeling too encouraged.

I simply can’t make sense of the mathematics.

Craig says he wants Bond to laugh and play Thunderball-style
+
Most of the time Mendes wants to rip out our hearts and souls and make us watch as he pickles them in brine and vinegar
=
Craig says he wants Mendes

???

It just don’t add up. There had better be some stipulation in Mendes’ contract that forbids him from thinking of anything but ROAD TO PERDITION and a small section of JARHEAD while working on B23. Perhaps that is the reason for the delay and this business about him coming on as a “consultant”? Once EON has finished installing the bio restraining bolt on Mendes’ brain, they’ll announce his official hire.

That surgery could only be started once MGM has seen it's grave/resurrection/salvation/redemption (take your pick), i.e. the surgeon will have to hold his bone saw for a bit.

Apart from that, I don't think Mendes is capable of only doing films in the manner his previous work shows. It would strongly depend on genre and what the specific story calls for. Now Bond is quite different from most of his earlier source material with exception of Perdition and Jarhead, and I don't see why Mendes shouldn't adapt to this.

Of course nothing is certain. I certainly wouldn’t have predicted CR based on the Martin Campbell evidence at hand at the time (except for the good action maybe).

But if there’s any reason to be excited about one director pick over another, it must come from our best guesses based on previous work. Otherwise, EON could hire Ashton Kutcher in his directorial debut and we could all smile and say “I see no reason why he couldn’t succeed.”

The fact of the matter is that Mendes has a full history of dealing deeply with domestic dramatics. They’re present even in what is by far his best work, ROAD TO PERDITION. As a wise person once said here, I shudder to think of what he’ll do with M. You think it’s likely he’s going to show restraint with such a dynamic that’s already been given full license to Freudalize? I’m basically an optimist as well, I’m certainly not a doomsayer by nature, but I think we all ought to prepare ourselves, based on the evidence, to find out that M does in fact stand for “Mommy”, just in case.

At the same time, I'm feeling confident we'll get treated to a goregous looking film. And one that's much more slowly paced than QOS.

LOOOL! Well, Kutcher would surely be a major surprise at least. Tabloids wouldn't write a single word about the actual film with all the uproar they'd give that guy.

Now, that would keep us occupied for the better part of this century, 'the Fall of the Man Bond in 201* before the M(other)' would easily fill 50 CBn-class forums with analysis, outrage and tons of abusive language.

You are right of course that Mendes' work shows an inclination towards material with a classic dramatic potential. But Mendes is also a professional and I should think he'd be able to apply this personal preference in a manner that mixes with Bond. And it would not necessarily have to be Bond whose domestic drama could be integrated into a Bond script.

Mendes is (possibly) directing the film, not writing it. Of course he would have some input, but I don't see Purvis, Wade and Morgan would write a domestic troubled Bond film.

As far as the Indiana Jones references, ToD is always regarded as the darkest Indiana Jones movie due to Lucas divorce. Yes, it has dark elements in it like child slavery and human hearts being torn out of peoples bodies, but overall the movie is actually much sillier in tone than its predecessor.

An interesting accidental "confirmation" that Mendes is directing from Neal Mortiz:

Moritz: We now have a terrific script that John August wrote. We were originally talking with Sam Mendes about doing the movie. Sam Mendes is going to go off and do the Bond movie, so there’s another director that we’re talking to right now.

Source: Collider (a terrific movie news website, btw).
