Avatar: IMAX 3D.

The one thing I don't understand, is why nearly everyone is obsessed with this film. The 3D is by far the best thing about the movie. Everything else is just average. I can't believe that this is coming from the guy who directed Titanic and Terminator 2.

The movie is one hour too long, imo. The battle scenes are fantastic, but I dunno. I sat through the entire movie, with a 'love/hate' thing going on.

I'll give this a 3/5. It was entertaining, but a bloody bore at times.

Deciding I'm going to update this in twos this year, so being that two were achieved earlier today, it's updating time:

Sweet
Creation
12
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (yes, it really is going here)

Good
Edge of Darkness

Meh

Crap

On my list to see: The Book of Eli, The Wolfman, Alice in Wonderland, Hot Tub Time Machine, Clash of the Titans, Kick-B), Iron Man 2, Robin Hood, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Toy Story 3, Eclipse, The Last Airbender, Inception, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 1

Also, interestingly, I'm maintaining my average. I don't know the exact specifics, but if you just look at the films I saw last year, it comes out to 2 films per month, and so far I really have had to excursions to the cinema per month. Very probably not going to hold up, though. Planning to go see the Wolfman sometime this weekend, so there'll go my average, for a little while at least.

Edge Of Darkness

You see, this is the kind of movie I wished Quantum of Solace was. Campbell has a brilliant direction, and he can do action. Mel Gibson was brilliant, and believable. It's such a good movie. I think this was Campbell's Quantum of Solace in a way. The knife fight is similar to that of Bond and Slate, but better, a lot better. I love how Campbell directs action, I can feel the punches.

Not perfect, but a thrilling, enjoyable movie.

From Paris With Love

When I first saw the trailer for this, I thought it looked really cool. I thought it would be a nice, fast paced action flick. It was, but that was all it was. This movie is terrible, there's virtually no story at all. All I could get from it was cocaine, drugs, killing and John Travolta.

Definitely one of the worst movies of 2010 so far. Saying that though, the last half hour was enjoyable.

Alice In Wonderland: IMAX 3D

This movie is visually stunning. Seriously. It's just so spectacular and epic. Which didn't come as a great surprise, as I expected this from a Burton movie. However, Mia Wasikowska is terrible as Alice and Johnny Depp is so bloody annoying as the Mad Hatter. I just wanted to punch him the entire way through. Other than that, I found this to be a very entertaining movie, and minus Wasikowska and Depp, brilliantly acted.

I'd love to see this again.

I see Tybre mentioned it; I'm really, and I mean really really looking forward to Kick-B). I wrote it off originally thinking it would be some kiddie themed superhero flick (and if you think about it, the TV spots really make it feel like that). However upon seeing the two red band trailers, I'm sold on this film. I actually get a similar vibe to it that I got from Watchmen. While the latter film is more serious in nature and (probably) deals with loftier themes, Kick- appears to have the same hyper-stylized and extremely gory violence.

Shutter Island

This, without a doubt, is the best movie of 2010 so far. I was sitting in the cinema with goosebumps the entire way through. DiCaprio is brilliant, as is Scoreces' direction. I highly recommend this one - magnificent.

Kick-A**

I didn't have high hopes for this. The trailer didn't impress me much, but I was dragged to see it anyway. I was glad to be proved wrong. Kick B) is a great movie. It's fun, enjoyable and has the perfect blend of humour and drama. It's not just a typical comedy movie, it's actually a lot more. Highly Reccomended.

There's a nice few Bond throwbacks in there as well, mostly from Licence to Kill and Thunderball. :|

Robin Hood

Now, as far back as I remember, I've always thought this looked like a high-budget sequel to Gladiator. In all honesty, I find it far more superior. I never really liked Gladiator anyway, if you take away the epic action, there's nothing much going on of much interest. Robin Hood however, is fantastic. The battle sequences are great, albeit a little cliché towards the end (NO!!!!!!!!!!!! in slow motion always makes me groan), other than that, I found this to be incredibly enjoyable. I actually prefer the quieter, character building scenes more though. Crowe and Blanchett have brilliant chemistry, and the cinematography is STUNNING. Beautiful sweeping shots of countryside and beaches. Highly reccomended.

Iron Man 2

I enjoyed this, don't get me wrong. It's a brilliant summer blockbuster, but there's just something off with it, and can't put my finger on what it is. Everything is there, a good balance of action, drama and humour. I'm racking my brains as to why I didn't enjoy it as much as Iron Man.

I've came to the conclusion that's it just isn't memorable enough. It's as if they just made it for the sake of having a sequel. There's nothing that memorable about it at all. The pacing I feel is really uneven, there's only 2 main action scenes, and as good as they are, I just felt that they were just showing off the special effects. It just didn't have any substance.

Robert Downey Jr is a brilliant actor, and I have to admit, there were scenes in Iron Man 2 where he really did make me laugh. The comedy was spot on, and it contained quite a lot of 'laugh out loud' moments. Anyway, the problem I have with Stark is that he doesn't feel like the same man from Iron Man. He comes across as arrogant, where as in the the first movie he was really smart. I wasn't too keen on the introduction of the Black Widow either, as much as I enjoyed watching Scarlett Johansson on a 60ft IMAX Screen.

I left the cinema feeling flat, and disappointed. I'll wait for the DVD release and watch it again. But I wasn't that impressed today, sadly.

I've heard IRON MAN 2 is even a nod to the escapist fare of the Moore-type Bond films.

Really? Having seen the flick in question, I have quite a hard time seeing that as the case.

I have read a (paraphrased) quote from Favreau saying that he was picking up the fun of the Moore Bonds or something that he felt Bond had left behind over the last couple of films. But I agree it's a bit too moody and introspective (or at least it's trying to be introspective) and short of spectacle to really feel like a Moore film. It's closer to a Brosnan Bond.

A Nightmare On Elm Street

This film is awful. The last act just about saved it from a 1 star rating. At least the last 40 minutes were enjoyable. For a 90 minute to start getting good around the 50 minute mark is disgraceful. I'll take the original over this any day. Freddy Kruger didn't even look scary and the acting was appalling. One thing I did enjoy though, was finding out about Freddy's character, even though it was stolen from the first movie, and not original at all.

:S

The Wolfman

I didn't really want to watch this, judging by all of the negative reviews it received, but I'm glad I did. I found this one very enjoyable. There's some great music and cinematography as well. The only problem I had with it, is that there wasn't much suspense. It seemed to be missing a good jump or two as well.

Pretty damn good all the same!

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

I'm so glad I didn't see this in cinemas, because this film is truly awful. It's obviously made for children, which is fine. But, I just think that it's too childish. It's the same as the first two Harry Potter movies, (again directed by Columbus), Prisoner of Azkaban I think is where the franchise truly kicked off.

This film though, arghh, it had so much potential. I haven't read the books, but my girlfriend seems to really enjoy them. The best thing about books, is that they can be pretty heavy in adult content. I'm not meaning sex or anything, it's just... again, if you look at the Harry Potter novels, there's so much happening, and they are very violent, especially the Deathly Hallows.

I mean, this film could do with some adult content, not full on adult content, but something that the older audience can relate to. One thing I did like though, was the main character suffering from ADHD and Dyslexia. It was quite different. But that isn't enough. Chris Columbus really shouldn't have directed this one. His good days are behind him. Mrs Doubtfire and the first two Home Alone movies, not THAT was entertainment.

Remember Me
Wow, I don't know what to think of this. I really liked the beginning, and the end. The middle I'm not too keen on, It kind of drags on, quite a lot. I don't know why, but the end twist really tugged on my heart strings. It's quite sad when you think about it, for a son to finally decide to put aside his differences with his father, then to die in a terrorist attack before they meet up. I've been told that the 9/11 twist was borderline offensive, but I disagree. I feel that it was a bold move, and I quite admire the producers for making such a gutsy decision.

I knew this isn't a brilliant film, the middle bit was a real bore. So I can't rate this anymore than 3 stars. Which is a real shame, because I really enjoyed the opening and closing acts.

Cop Out
This is horrific. It isn't even funny. It's like the 2010 equivalent on Paul Blart: Mall Cop. It's just, SO terrible. There's actually no redeeming qualities about it. Bruce Willis looks horrified with some of the stuff he has to deliver, he actually looks embarrassed. Take my advice. Do NOT watch this.

Right now I consider 2010 a year with one of the worst and most disappointing cinematic output ever.

There´s only one film that really delighted me: THE GHOST WRITER.

My hopes are still out for the second half to redeem 2010:

1. INCEPTION (being a big Nolan fan, the trailers really excited me and I do believe he has created the only really original film in year full of rehashes and play-it-safe-concepts)

2. TRON LEGACY (a sequel I really want to see, having a soft spot for my childhood experience of TRON)

3. TRUE GRIT (because the Coens are my heroes and the combination with Jeff Bridges promises a fantastic film)

4. THE SOCIAL NETWORK (because I am a Fincher fan and don´t have a clue how you can do a film about Facebook)

5. TOY STORY 3 (because PIXAR has not disappointed me yet)

6. WALL STREET 2: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS (because I am a Stone fan and think that this looks not like just a sequel)

7. MORNING GLORY (because I love Harrison Ford and the trailer got me laughing surpringly hard, especially with Ford barking "after the career I had?")

8. HOW DO YOU KNOW (because James L.Brooks made two films that I absolutely adore, "Terms of Endearment" and "Broadcast News", and this one again has Nicholson in it, right?)

9. THE LAST AIRBENDER (yeah, I know, but I give Shyamalan the benefit of the doubt, although the trailers did not do much for me)

10. THE EXPENDABLES (because I am a child of the 80´s - but the trailer makes me fear this one is not as good as it should have been)

Might also be interesting to me:

THE OTHER GUYS (I like Ferrell, sorry)
HARRY POTTER 7.1 (I like Potter, sorry)
YOU WILL MEET A DARK TALL STRANGER (I like Woody, although his last decade had more lows than highs)
PREDATORS (because I have fond memories for the first one)
LITTLE FOCKERS (because I liked the other two films, although I expect the worst for this one)
LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS (I like Hathaway, and a film about the invention of vıagra must be interesting, right?)
NEVER LET ME GO (great premise, Romanek is a great director, trailer seemed a bit on the solemn-teary side)
THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU (love a Philip K. Dick-story, although with Matt Damon in the lead of a thriller everything seems now very Bourne-ish)
THE AMERICAN (love Clooney, although the story of a last job for a hitman is already tired)
THE NEXT THREE DAYS (a new Haggis film... and unfortunately a remake, but it could be good)

THE AMERICAN (love Clooney, although the story of a last job for a hitman is already tired)
THE NEXT THREE DAYS (a new Haggis film... and unfortunately a remake, but it could be good)

Just noticed someting interesting about two 2010 movies...Tom Cruise(Knight and Day) and Matt Damon(Green Zone) play characters with the exact same name: Roy Miller

How did that happen?

Toy Story 3 -- Well, I must say, this movie emotionally touched me. I laughed, I cried... I didn't kiss six bucks good-bye; my mother did, but it was all sincere. 'Twas a trip back to childhood, and, for all I espouse, by the end of the film, 'twas not a dry eye in the house. :)
