I'm not sold on Friend, but I'm open to being convinced.

I'm halfway through THE NIGHT MANAGER and I have to admit - less than enthralled. The plot and characters have real potential, but I'm not believing it, and that's down to Hiddleston. At present, if he were to get Bond I wouldn't be pleased. This isn't to say that I wouldn't warm to him overtime, but I think he's still got a long way to go yet.
It amazes me that it gets any plaudits. It's good sunday night bbc fodder, but it's far from great and Hiddleston fails to convince in the machismo stakes.

Yeah, you guys are right. Been rewatching And then there were none, and Turner definitely gets my vote over Hiddleston. Phillip Lombard (his character) is quite the ruthless chap, suave and intense at the same time. Good acting chops, it seems.

So glad somebody else feels the same way! I hope Babs and MGW aren't swept away with Hiddleston.

Now, I'm not convinced he's the only man for the job, but he could get the job done.

Aidan Turner's performance as Lombard is something of a Bond audition reel. He's got the look and the deadly air. If you match that against some of his warmer performances, I think you see an actor who could mingle Daltonesque intensity with some off-the-cuff playfulness.
Now, I'm not convinced he's the only man for the job, but he could get the job done.
He actually looks a bit like Dalton too.

Originally, I thought Fassbender would have been a great Bond. I now think he has probably overgrown the role. Bond is usually a springboard to greater roles, not the other way around. I find Hardy to be a fine actor, but he's not Bond, in my opinion. Hiddleston, I think could pull the role off after a little time in the gym. I'm unfamiliar with Turner's work, but he does have 'the look.'; although, Craig proved you don't need to resemble the Bond of the books to be right for the role. Lewis and Elba are just too old. Had both been in their early-mid 30s, I'd be happy with either. So, my choice: Dan Stevens. I'd heard his name bandied about, but had only seen him in 'Downton Abbey,' and 'Walk Among the Tombstones.' I finally saw 'The Guest,' and he convinced me he's Bond. He could do charming, vicious, and humorous with little effort; and he was convincing in the action bits. All in all, EON have never gone wrong with their selections. Each have brought something different to the role and all have added to a catalog of films we all love. Our next Bond will be the right choice, no doubt.

Watch Hiddleston in the new behind-the-scenes teaser for "Kong: Skull Island" - he has buffed up already for that film.
Although, frankly, I don´t need Bond to be a muscle stud - Craig has changed that perception, unfortunately. I would welcome a Bond who looks fit but not as if he had a personal trainer and cook, while also spending at least three hours a day in a fitness studio.
As for Dan Stevens - yep, he would be interesting, too.

Connery went on to have a decent career. Did any of the others actually spring board?Originally, I thought Fassbender would have been a great Bond. I now think he has probably overgrown the role. Funny how easily one forgets. I felt exactly the same after seeing The Guest - by far the best choice. Then in recent months he dropped off the radar a little and then Turner made his case in the agatha christie mini series, followed by the highly worrying Hiddleston furore.
So thanks for that reminder. I wonder if the same memorial disfunction occurs at Eon? Probably not

My inner socialist doesn't want anyone who has gone to private school to play Bond. Which means, although I like Hiddleston, I would rather Aidan Turner, who I understand went to state school (correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm still rooting for this guy:
Should Craig do 1 more then Madden will be at least mid 30's before he would play Bond. Plus I think he has a good background for the role, humble beginnings, stage acting and a few movies. Definitely not out of the price range and a talent EON could mold.
There's something about Hiddleston that doesn't feel quite right to me.

If the producers wanted to break out to the colonies again, what about Antony Starr? Physically up to it (see Banshee), smooth enough (see Spies and Lies) and a very capable actor to boot (dual characters for 6 seasons on Outrageous Fortune). They could certainly do worse. Check him out

NO ONE GOOGLE IMAGE ANTONY STARR MOVIES!!!
P.S Looks wise I can see it, but I'm not sure EON would consider anyone non-British for now... They might surprise us though.

It's not going to be Hiddleston or Turner. EON generally doesn't hire those that speak out to the press about wanting to be a part of the franchise.

But indeed I doubt there will be any news on that matter before news regarding MGM...

Even if that were the case, I'd imagine that EON would have them on a gag order, out of respect for Craig, until it's announced that he won't be returning. It's not as though they've never fired someone for speaking about their casting before it was officially announced.

I was only joking about HIddleston. Although, to be fair - he fulfills many criteria that fit, and he never said: I want to be Bond or I had talks with EON - or anything like that. The media are geared towards him to create more interest in him - as they do. And Hiddleston´s star definitely is on the rise. No longer just "Loki", he has established himself now as a leading man. After his celebrated turn in "The Night Manager" he will be the protagonist in "KONG: SKULL ISLAND". And he´s being photographed on every gala now - and he is going to every gala now.
Sure, this could be the next "Clive Owen"-type that is constantly mentioned as Bond.
But it´s true what Dustin said: the MGM situation will have to be resolved before the hunt for the next Bond definitely will be on.

I believe Starr was in the mix/auditioned after Brossa's departure. Too old now for Bond (40). But i'm a big fan of his work on Banshee - great series and a shame it's ending.

I think the Elba, Hiddleston, and Turner names are all going to turn out to be this cycle's versions of Clive Owen. The only two names I feel like we can safely say will actually be on the list at the start (of course, it'll grow from there as it always does) are Henry Cavill and Rupert Friend, both of whom did well in the audition process for Casino Royale. If Debbie McWilliams is involved in the search once again, I'd expect Friend to at least be called in to read again for the part, given that he reportedly did very well the last time. I'd imagine that they'll kick around Cavill's name as a possibility, but probably arrive at the same decision that we all have with regards to him, that Justice League and the like will keep him from being a serious contender this time around.

Well, Elba's going to be too old to take over things if they're going for the 3-4 years between every film. You'd only get, at the very best, two films out of him before he hit 50.
Turner's just an uninspired choice that I can't imagine someone like WB or, god forbid, Disney, betting the farm on in their first go-round with the franchise.
If anything, I'd imagine that the new distributor would yield to EON, seeing as how they got it so right last time with such a controversial choice.

Probably - though it's really anybody's guess as to where exactly things are regarding Craig and Bond. Or rather Bond and MGM.
My guess right now is that they will wait for Craig, and get ready for 2018.
